This films takes a real life scenario, undocumented immigrants working for below minimum wage to scrape a living, and turns it into a disturbed thriller. I won't go into details about the content, but I will say that the female lead is a total nut job!
The scary thing about this film is the fact that it could happen, maybe even has to some degree.
Reason for the 5 stars? Slow start, lack of depth in the "immigrant" characters and a poor finale. The film deserved more... a good story, but needed more.

Aside from the political stance some people are taking about this film ("they took ourrr joooobbbssss"; South Park) it's actually a film you think you'd just watch but not be too bothered about it's got this strange pull which keeps you increasingly intrigued with what happens next. Very dark, very tongue in cheek at times but all the same worth a watch. Happy watching.
Leave aside the overuse of "Thrilling Sound effects" it's a good Indie movie. The cinematography is great, the tension is present all over the movie - you really wanna kill that woman- and the message is good. It's good to see something new is the thriller scene, which became sadly empty the last couple of years in my opinion. It won't mark me, but it's just a bit of fresh air.

The movie is dull... Another torture porn movie, where the victims are illegal immigrants, and the torturers are a couple of american sellers...
The main actress sucks, is dumb, no real talent there... The same to the actor portraiting the husband...
Stupid script, bad acting...
Not a bad film, acting very good plot line good, main actress a bit of a dominatrix type and quite scary. Lots of better horror films out there but give it a go.........

Gosh I really wanted to like this one. It sort of had that Platform vibe, so I was really looking into it, in what it might develop. Indeed the action develops slowly but the pacing is quite alright, yet as the minutes go by you start to realize that the movie is more focused on ways to torture people, than an actually horror plot. If you compare this to As above so Below you start to understand what went wrong. Because one is a horror, the other I guess tried to make a statement but failed and miserably so. Whenever a horror movie can't truly deliver it relies on nothing more than 2 main things: either torture or gore.
Gore is something we got used to, but torture porn sadly still appeals to some, thus many such productions will go this way in order to close the deal. Like someone once said, a horror with jump scares, is like a comedian that goes around tickling the audience: you laughed...so...I did ok.
Same goes with torture porn, a sad excuse to make a movie, because most people will think perhaps the movie was too smart, too complex, thus let's not think it over and just go out and straight declare it a victory. Luckily, things don't work like this and Beneath Us is overall a waste of time. I would never recommend such a movie because it has little to do with cinema and more with...lack of imagination. And if some of you will decide to declare that...well it was natural and powerful, Ok, sure, but I'm watching a movie. Show me something different.
Anyway Beneath Us is a pass for me.
Cheers!

I wouldn't describe this movie as a horror film though, it's a well directed thriller with interesting choice of music and some scenes turned out to be really mesmerizing as well as spooky. Sure it's political but it's done in a good way, the actors play their role pretty well and the story is intriguing, not boring even for a second. The storyline evolves in a quite realistic way, you don't notice at fist glance that the characters are being trapped in this house. Oh and of course I have to say that it's worth watching for the two main actors who are quite handsome (Alejandro and Memo).

This was an entertaining film. It wasn't deep or too difficult to understand. It shed light on the evils of human beings. It showed how all things that glitter ain't gold. It's worth a watch.
You know, they could have just made a movie about two psychos who hire day laborers and taunt/torture/kill them. It could've been entertaining. Instead, the director/producer/whatvever decided to add this ridiculous notion that somehow all white folks are scared, bigoted racists who hate illegals. It seeps through in everything, e.g. the way the third guy is killed and the laughably stupid talk show at the end where some white guy asks "well what's wrong with slavery?"
Thumbs down for another stupid SJW piece of garbage from the hypocrites in Hollywood.

Just when you finally think you can watch a movie that isn't political, you're watching a movie that political. I'm not saying this doesn't happen, might be very rare at best, but even with the suggested possibility, way too political. The title should read "white privilege vs illegal immigrants"... Would be more fitting. I wouldn't be surprised if this was produced by CNN or MSNBC...
ALL THAT ASIDE, the actual movie, acting and story/plot was mediocre.
The " White supremacist" podcast at the end was a nice touch *insert sarcasm here*.
The truth is that I am surprised by such a low rating. It is a really a good horror movie, taken to a very disturbing extreme and at times very difficult to bear. Do you want terrifying horror? Here you will see it!
The electrified fence divides its characters from class and status. To be honest I have never understood how you can live in such a beautiful house surroanded with an electric fence, it is ridiculous, but it exists. Are you afraid of what's behind the fence? Go live somewhere else. The American couple is the real terror here, paranoid, racist and the most stupid. Without human values, they only love themselves, it exists. They are totally out of it, like all the neighbors around them.
The message of the use of weapons in America is also very present, with a weapon they solve everything, even without being self-defense, but as if they were playing Space Invaders, just a game. It exists.
I liked all the actors and the psychopath woman, Liz, raised my blood pressure, so the ending left me with a magnificent feeling of triumph and a lot of sadness at the same time because it is unfair at the very least, and a true injustice.
Maybe this movie is made to confront our political opinion and start a conversation, the truth is that they achieve it. We will talk about it and analyze it, for sure!
I will not turn my review into a political message, because it is still a horror movie and I always write reviews about the movie, not about politics. If you are a fan of this genre, don't miss it! And don't forget, it is for over 18 years old.

Probably the WORST movie I've ever (tried) to watch. I did not think any movie was capable of being worse than Gremlins 2. The Xenophobia is present alright, with whoever wrote this pile of feces.
This 'America' horror has been done before and arguably better in the likes of Get Out. It's also not a very original kidnap movie -the plot is straightforward and the 'cat and mouse' plot is very predictable.
It's saving grace is that Beneath Us strikes a realistic chord, making it a worthwhile watch. Lynn Coles' dramatics aside, this could genuinely happen. Even some of the reviews on IMDB indicate some of the issues in society (how can human slavery ever be branded 'too political' and 'boring'?!)
All of above aside the film has passable direction, shocks and acting. It's not worth owning the DVD but you should watch it if it's on the TV.

The only thing I can say without giving away the spoilers, is that I have no doubt that something similar like this happened to people unfortunately.
And the fact that we know how many folks think and feel in modern america, it makes this film all the more disturbing.
To put it into perspective as best I can:
I saw Get Out, and that movie was dumb, predictable and unoriginal.
I saw Beneath Us, and this film was almost like a documentary or recreation of some likely, highly probable scenarios. It was not low budget, but the majority of the money was for the look of the film, lighting, and few makeup effects. Yet still it was good. 6/10 for this underrated thriller.

The embodiment of the truth about the division occurring in American society in recent years. The absence of law left the borders and then implanted racism in the hearts of American citizens, so this kind of unfortunate incident occurs. A movie that tells the reality that it is good!!
Really? Why would they make such a vicious gory violent movie in the middle of an ongoing USA-border crisis stereotyping races and scaring the heck out of undocumented workers?
In addition painting whites as sadistic cruel people which isn't true. ALL PEOPLE MATTER and this movie - while edgy and suspenseful - adds salt to the wounds of political divide. There are good and bad in all races. God help us all.

This movie focuses on the serious social and political problems arising from illegal immigration in the USA. There is no escaping this analysis. From there, each draws their conclusions according to their point of view. I believe it will affect even mood when giving a rate. White conservative Americans will love the way Latinos are treated, Latinos and liberal whites will revolt, and so on. Everyone knows that the problem exists and, despite the exaggeration, the movie portrays, in an alternative way, the reality.
Sadly , some americans would love to enslave illegal immigrants, especially latina, since most Americans don't wann do the work that Latinos accept to do cheaply out of necessity. The immigration problem will continue to grow no solution.
As for the movie, the production is poor, the interpretations almost amateur. But that is what matters least, because the matter is real and very serious.
The ending is redemptive for Latinos and should bother conservative whites.

This B-movie thriller's title is more clever than the movie itself but it does have an interesting plot: a rich white couple who flips houses hires 4 Hispanic day-laborers to do all their upgrades but, it's not long before the men discover how twisted and racist the couple are and that they have more in mind than just cheap labor. The main problems with this film are the heavy-handed political messaging, over-the-top acting of the rich couple, and a poor script. The movie has failed attempts at dark comedy/morbid satire but it also has some tension to pull you along into wanting to see how it all plays out. Some people hated the ending but for a thriller/horror film it was satisfying enough for me. It definitely could have been a better film altogether but, IMHO, I've seen worse! 10/2020

And here it's not the case, since in this movie that stereotype is shattered like a castle made of sand. Here, four illegal immigrants who are out each and everyday purusing their daily wage are becoming victims of a deranged racist and rich couple. Watching this movie one can understand why people who try to make a living while they're undocumented in the US are completely unprotectable and so easily they can be manipulated and victims of exploitation by "descent" and "legal" citizens.
In this movie you'll find: action, violence, suspence. You will not find: suberb acting or direction, innovative scenario. But it's a decent movie which can keep you entertained.
