Not long ago he charmed us with City of Life, an almost true to life depiction of life in Dubai. This time imminent Emirati director Ali F Mostafa grabs our attention with a premonition of what could happen in the not so distant future.

Set in a derelict dystopia where clean water has become a precious commodity (if it isn't already, time to wake up people!) The Worthy opens with a warning and in it a protruding message about the fate of humanity. The first fifteen minutes is also a warning that violence will be brutal, bloody, and at times extremely unforgiving. We are then introduced to about ten survivors living in an abandoned aircraft factory. They have a huge water tank but low on ammunition, thus making them sitting ducks for drifters. With the palette already dark and dusty, the arrival of two mysterious strangers escalates the film into a bottomless pit of spectacular chaos.

Shot mostly in a single location, what follows is a deadly game of cat-and-mouse where one by one, characters are picked-off in gruesome death traps. While the fates of these characters are somewhat predictable, why they are being killed forms the central message in the film. As such, it won't take long for viewers to realise that the theme on water scarcity is just the outer layer of this diabolical thriller that finds its footing in slasher territory. That the makers seem to have had free reign on death scenes is evident in violence that is almost on par with carnage in the Saw films. Even so, repetitiveness is kept to a minimum in favour of keeping the action grounded and beautifully choreographed.

With an ensemble cast and a credible script from horror writer Vikram Veet, The Worthy may feel familiar to the post-apocalyptic canon but it's still a commendable effort and a leap forward in Arab cinema. Like City of Life before (including actors from that film), The Worthy is built on a platform of philosophical ironies that many may not see at first. But it's there and waiting to be discovered, just like the emerging Arab film market. And judging from the applause at the end of this screening, it also shows that Emirati cinema can be distinctly Arabic and strangely alluring at the same time.

I'm a big fan of post apocalyptic themed movies/shows but find many are really bad. This being one. The story is very basic to the genre, but repeatedly situations completely unrealistic occur to keep the story moving.

Incredibly stupid decisions start driving the movie after the first 30 minutes. What's worse than a by-the-numbers plot? A script insisting that its characters are so stupid, it makes you wonder how they survived that long in the first place. Never mind whatever context or culture the story is supposed to exist in; this is as unworthy as movies can get.

Nothing new here, same as always people dies and some survive. But there is a great nerve throughout the movie, and some deepth in the caracter, that seldom accour in this genre.

THE WORTHY is the third movie I've seen from the UAE, and it's the best of the three. It was marginally watchable. I'm thinking it might have been one star better had the original performances been preserved rather than dubbed. In other words, the dubbing is awful. The subtitles don't match the dialog, either, which is distracting and odd.

There's really nothing new or special about this movie, and it's not well done enough to compensate for that. It's not the worst thing I've ever seen, but it's a far cry from good.

I can't recommend this movie, but watching won't kill you.

The only problem of this movie is that it is a horror sci-fi movie, rather than a thriller. It's full of evil, blood, unsettling landscapes and unescapable misery. The ending is unrealistic.

I highly recommend this movie; it's quick paced, well acted & directed; production values are really good, despite the low budget; gore and sfx are really top notch! It's a very lean, fast paced dystopian action movie, full of plot twists and expert direction & photography.

I've seen reviews finding redeeming values to the movie because it comes from an unusual producing place. But it's like finding a movie should be saved because it does not come from Hollywood but from Wisconsin. It has nothing to do with the movie itself.

This movie just proves that UAE have got great cinematographers, and promising actors, let's give them time to groom good writers and decent directors. They were absent from this movie.

Useless movie and waste of time.. It has no idea with a very poor performance and poor editing with the use of poor video editing technics like all fire scenes. The voice is not clear at all even for Arabic language speakers. The accent of the actors was varying between Syrian Jordanian Iraqi and Emarati. With the use of unnecessary bad words.

Waist of time the story could be directed way much better. It seems that they had big budget but 0 creativity and Issa killed it with his bad acting

The characters in the film were not given to WHO DESERVE IT , ACTORS who became heroes on that MOVIE they are coldish , silly and not dynamic .

When will arabs leave Americans alone. I am a Muslim not only arabs the entire world want to talk walk look sh##t like Americans. But emirate? It's a rich country atleast if they decided to waste time and money on making movies they could have worked hard on it and not depend on hollywood dvd's. What we see in this is already done decades back in Hollywood movies. Except language nothing else is emirati here. Any ways not surprised can't expect arabs working hard. A big NO NO.

Don't see much of a point to this story honestly, I went into watching it not expecting much & well that's exactly what I got. Besides the fact that the plot (what there was of one) was subpar at best - the film itself just dragged on aimlessly & bleakly meandering along with no real sense of purpose or substance. I didn't get to the know any of the characters well enough to even care what happens to them therefore as the movie plods along I have zero connection to them or the peril they find themselves in. This is an empty tale with a nothing ending spun with no direction or proper pace.

Wow, how is this a 5?? it's very bad. constant screaming, awful acting, and very unrealistic plot and events. And many stolen scenes from Hollywood. Oh and everyone have white teeth an makeup in an apocalypse. So don't watch it.
