Guillaume, la jeunesse du conquérant

I have been trying to find films about English kings & Queens in the order of their reign and the only film i can find about William the Conqueror is this story about the time when he is about to embark from Dives-sur-Mer to conquer England in the year 1066 and his memories of how he got where he was despite significant opposition.

Historically this film was fairly informative as i wasn't aware what had happened to William before his invasion of England but if you are going to make a film about William The Conqueror surely it should be about The Battle of Hastings? This barely gets a mention.

The film has an amateurish feel about it. I looks good but the fight scenes are not very realistic and some of the acting from the minor actors is very poor.

I'm sure i will see better films in my quest to watch movies about all the Kings and Queens and alternately i'm going to see much worse.

Beautiful photography, not so bad performances, a simple story with motivational aspects, good fight scenes and the frame of the story to the boy about the childhood and youth of his father. Result - decent one , in my case remembering the film about William The Conqueror by Sergiu Nicolaescu.

The DVD calls itself 'William the Conqueror', not signalling that it is in French, and entirely set before William set sail.

Seeing the Conquer as a child and young man fighting for survival however quite interesting.

The battle scenes were realistic, though it was often unclear which side anyone was on.

Worth it for serious viewers.
