Empire of Scents

2/6/18. An interesting exploration into the most under-appreciated sense we have - the sense of smell. It is amazing how a scent can bring back memories from the past that our other senses can't do very well. Almost primitive in nature, it is a tool for survival as well as a tool for pleasure. Without our sense of smell, can we truly enjoy the food we eat? I suppose to truly appreciate it, we would have to lose it. And, I don't ever want to lose the ability to smell!

I loved the people featured in this wonderful documentary produced by Lucie Tremblay. Each of the beautifully photographed educational segments are entertaining, largely because of the colorful people who are featured in this artistic description about the biological responses to and the science about scents. As a nurse, I recommend this film for the entertaining cinema artistry but, also, as a syllabus reference for anatomy and physiology courses.
