To The Naysayers I Say. Did You Even See The Film?

Being a low budget film, I wasn't expecting much. The ability of Maria to put together such a beautiful piece on a shoestring says a lot about her talent and attention to detail. I was immediately touched by the level of thought that was put into every scene. The aesthetics, lighting and locations were amazing. To say I'm looking forward to more of her work would be an understatement.

Beautiful cinematography

I enjoyed this film. Even if you don't understand at first glance what is going on, it is enough to just engage with the emotional texture - such as joy, grief and pain - in 'The Texture of Falling'. This affect is nicely evoked by the filmmaker through her impressive cinematography, the situational set-up and character play. It is good to see ambition in the creative vision. Unconventional relationships can be messy and full of pain when fantasy hits reality, and this feels like a personal poetic exploration of perhaps a not so uncommon human experience.

sexually charged and highly stylized

A highly stylized film that checks all of the indie film requirement boxes. The music and cinematography are vivid. Exploring the lives of a pair of couples in a sexually charged relationship and how they intertwined

Reviewers here are either trolling or part of the team that made the movie

I couldn't make it past 15 minutes. Acting and dialog is all so awful and forced, it felt like I was watching The Room. Low budget and boring as hell.

Another rating lie.

Don't do it as a favour to me, you don't know me, you don't owe me. Do it as a favour to yourself and avoid like the plague.

To the crew/cast and their shill families: Learn to rate and review your own favourably but modestly. That way maybe you won't be the object of any further ridicule past your involvement in this laughable awfulness.

Did I mention avoid? Because, avoid.

Strange film

Portland really depresses people that is for sure. Heterosexuals making out sadistically. Strange film indeed.

Thought Provoking

I 'm normally not an art house film guy but my girlfriend wanted to watch this so we gave it a shot. It did not disappoint and actually delivered on many levels. I loved the juxtaposition of the beautiful imagery with dark taboo subject matter that made this film not only thoroughly enjoyable but also extremely thought provoking. We spent the rest of the night talking about it. Great job by a first time director!

Very bad

Contender for Tommy Wiseau film. But at least "The Room" is funny now. This one is really waisted your time. Avoid it.

Sexy, smart and bizarre. A unique story from an up and coming visionary filmmaker.

If you're looking for something steamy to watch on a Saturday night, it's-a one spicy baby! Kidding aside, while this movie is quite sexy, it's so much more than that. Director (and lead actor!) Maria Allred set out with a bold vision and the result is a tense, smart and stylish film that will keep you simultaneously confused and intrigued all the way through. This film is very straightforward on the surface, seemingly intentionally so, and the viewer slowly falls into it's narrative trap before they realize it. It plays with the viewer and their assumed expectations of standard storytelling in a very fun way. When the film ended, I sat there for a moment and said to myself, "Damn. She got me." I'm really looking forward to what Maria Allred cooks up next. She's a filmmaker worth putting on your radar.

nice suspense thriller

Worth a watch. OK, this movie takes some chances. And, for the most part, does a great job in delivering a very suspenseful film. Winding a story around sexual fetishes and psychological mind games, this movie could have easily gone off the rails. But it does not. The film has wonderful cinematography and solid story line. And is worthy of a watch.

Terrible Acting

I won't comment on the merits of the script/story, as I was unable to make it past the fifteen minute mark of this film.

The reason: the acting is really quite poor. I simply can't tolerate bad acting in a film, no matter what other qualities it may (or may not) possess.

A Sexy Thriller

The Texture of Falling is a psychological drama about two different women living seemingly parallel lives. Both women have torrid affairs and seem to test the boundaries of how far they are willing to push themselves, their sex lives, and their relationships. The entire time we feel that these people's lives are deeply interconnected, but we yearn to figure out how and why.

The Texture of Falling is a very sexy film. It's tough to pull off truly sexy scenes and storylines in indie films, but The Texture of Falling and its team very much succeed in this pursuit. These scenes feel authentic, necessary for the story, and in no way exploitative. One of the couples also explores BDSM and this film tackles it in such a way that it feels like the good version of 50 Shades of Grey.

Technically, The Texture of Falling excels particularly in its visuals, score, and overall tone. The music is great, while the cinematography beautifully captures Portland in the most gorgeous ways possible. Overall, Maria Allred (who seemingly contributes in just about every department!) and her team achieve a very nice lyrical feel for much of the film. I particularly enjoyed some moments in the film that could have been their own music video, thriving on just beautiful imagery and excellent music.

If you'll notice, the film has a spectacular number of IMDB ratings for an indie film that is just now being released on VOD, and the film still maintains a very high star average which is no easy feat. This is obviously a testament to the quality of the film, and I'd like to also say that I personally recommend The Texture of Falling to anyone looking for a sexy psychological drama!

Okay but doesn't really go anywhere

Nice scenery, attractive women. Mildly erotic. You don't get to know the people. You know what they do, but that's about it. There isn't a plot or a story, I wasn't really sure what was going on half the time.

Another overrated rating

I do believe most of the high ratings are either made by the team of this movie or a paid off reviewer

What the hell did just watch?

I have had a sincere longing to go back to Portland, Oregon since me and my family moved away in 2006. Watching this film I can now totally remember why it didn't seem like a big deal at the time. The place is full to overflowing with pretentious "artists" splashing annoying pretentious crap all over the screen. Case in point, this 75 minute waste of time. The story sucks, the acting sucks, the music is public domain and poorly chosen. Some movies are so bad they are good, this one is so bad it's bad. Stay away and don't let the good reviews obviously written by the cast, crew, and their friends & family members trick you into wasting your time.

When you are on your deathbed you will remember this review and thank me for the extra hour and fifteen minutes you had to spend with your loved ones.

A solid romantic thriller.

Texture of falling is absolutely intriguing. A romantic thriller that depicts the lives of two complelling couples struggling with rejection, hearbreak, and pain. A complex plot that's filled with several twist and turns. The lead actors all did really well and the visuals & music were on point. Well done.

Jungian?

Allred is jack of all trades and master of none. Well, not exactly none, there is evident mastery of shilling... This self-centered project is dull, pretentious and mildly amusing, if you are into personality typing. Jungian? I don't think so, rather Adlerian, with massive overcompensation and ego-centrism... and not in a humorous way. This movie is not insulting to the eye, it's just boring, so it would be advisable to skip it.

Over rated

Can someone make a film using a MV style? Yes. This film just made it, without drama, without plots. The story is simple .... "Affair". Yet presenting characters in a situation of affair(s) does not made up story and without plots the film ends where it just begins. Nevertheless, it is interesting to know that the whole production is done by so small a crew.

Don't be fooled

3 stars for the fact that this is a low budget movie and it got a "worldwide" release. It did premiere at an overseas festival and actually played in theaters in NYC. But just because you can make a movie and convince half a dozen theaters to screen it does not mean that it will be able to connect to anyone other than those involved. What I mean by that was that I watched this movie because I saw the high review score and the number of reviews for such a small movie was impressive. The reviews seemed favorable and I live where it was filmed so I gave it a chance. Then I watched the movie. It is just a confusing mess and reading the other reviews it is just nonsense. The story doesn't make a lot of sense and there isn't enough there to justify putting all the time into it. Some kind of love trauma, I guess, maybe or maybe not two different stories representing the same person. I have no idea. By the end something is revealed but I didn't care at all to think about what I was watching at all. Just turned it off.

There is a great part at the beginning where a film producer character is talking to another film producer character (write about what you know, I guess) and she is explaining her film idea by saying "it's a love affair with Portland, with different cinematography techniques used to show a progression" and the other one says, "that's not viable" and walks away with no further explanation. I guess it's the director/writer/producer/actress/cinematography/craft service/promoter's jab at some person who told her that. It's a bad setup for a bad movie. Because to make that a scene you need to prove them wrong. And how much money has this money made? And how many people has it entertained? Ultimately I watched the whole thing because I also live in Portland and it's always fun seeing places you live in movies but not this one. Even the park right down the street from my apartment is featured and somehow I didn't care. A scene near the end where one character runs from one end of the city to the other is also laughable as they chose to film a few shots during a parade or something and random people in the background wave at the camera, then there is a closeup shot of a handrail on some stairs and the actress slides down it. Just so so so so so so silly.

I feel also that the producer and director did not have much faith in her movie because she obviously paid a bunch (like 30) of people to write glowing reviews and I also would be surprised if somehow a large chunk of the 1200 ratings in this website were somehow because of her encouragement. For future knowledge no viewer likes to feel tricked. You hyped yourself up your glowing movie that probably would've had more luck as a short film on an actual film circuit.

Mind bending drama

So this has the feel of an actor piece say like a Mike Figgis or Henry Jaglom with the more modern sensibility of a modern blockbuster in a visual sense, in some ways reminded me limitless. It's a worthy watch right up until the end as I do not want to give away any spoilers.
