Ray, a well known horror writer, and his young American wife Vicki move into an old English country house where he works on his latest novel and spends much of his time drunk. Bored Vicki starts having an affair with mullet haired groundsman Nick, who is himself an aspiring writer. When naughty Victoria's abusive ex-husband Sean turns up out of the blue (complete with hilariously bad American accent) things take a nasty turn. When Ray loses his sight from a drunken accident the two lovers thinks that they can get away with their relationship but when he regains it (hence the title) he sees them at it in the swimming pool! Until fairly recently I was unaware of film maker Michael J Murphy but last year I purchased the excellent PH Blu-ray box-set of his movies, I am slowly making my way through them and so far, given the micro-budgets that he worked with, I am quite impressed. I would describe Second Sight as a love triangle suspense thriller with a dash of horror, the latter part mainly coming in the form of a murderous doctor in Ray's imagination. A local psychic does also provide a touch of the supernatural. Patrick Olliver as Ray and James Renyard as Nick both give very good performances, the very attractive Amy Raasch is generally pretty good as Vicki though she is not always consistent. At least she does have a genuine American accent! Some of the other cast are very amateur but with a tiny budget that is to be expected. Don't expect much gore in this film, it is quite talky and at 89 minutes it felt a little too long but overall I quite enjoyed it and will probably watch it again. It reminded me of the TV movies that Hammer made for their 1984 series "Hammer House of Mystery & Suspense" but will a much smaller budget.
