Strong Female Lead + All Asian Cast + "Fans" With Specific Expectations = Great Film with Bad Reviews

Unfortunately, most people seem to have wanted a remake of the 90's cartoon musical/comedy. Disney probably tried to get its Wonder Woman / Black Panther moment and they succeeded with an incredible Asian cast and female lead by a major studio in a tremendously anticipated film. But ironically, it's one of the most hated films of the year, brought down by fans of a 20 year old cartoon that this is not a remake of. Too bad!

Unlike the Greek phoenix, the Chinese fenghuang did not go up in flames to renew itself; it propagated in the normal way. While the bird is fictional and has no "real" biology, this movie makes a concentrated effort to get Chinese culture right.
