Not a lot of bite

Which is quite tough to achieve considering the fake teeth are really good. So no pun intended - and also let me make clear, that I actually like the director. I know that some people had issues with the direct way of him communicating - we are all different that way. Also him talking about the budget (around 300.000, which is not really nothing, but compared to movie budgets in general it is considered peanuts) ... makes you want to ... well give him and the rest of the people involved a pass.

All that said, the movie has a few interesting takes and ideas, but is far too long for its own good for sure. The actors try their best to help the situation and if you like (low budget) horror movies ... well maybe you might not mind all the flaws and fillers ... in dialog and otherwise.

And while the teeth are really good (make up too), they do get in the way of the sound - well the spoken words ... not that there is much wisdom to be shared ... but I reckon even God is not aware of this script (by the way the quote from the poster, that is also delivered in the movie ... well it feels forced ... but that would be the least of it all, if other areas would have worked better).

So again, I like the filmmaker and he won't be affected too much by my review anyway ... maybe the next one will be more to my liking and will get a higher rating too.

Not bad...

Sure, without ever having heard about this 2024 horror movie "Bogieville", from director Sean Cronin and writer Henry P. Gravelle, I still opted to watch it. I am a big fan of all things horror after all.

Writer Henry P. Gravelle put together an okay script and storyline, though the narrative was a bit sluggish at times. There were moments in the movie where it felt like the narrative went into Neutral and went nowhere. But overall, it was an okay enough entertaining script for a vampire movie, just could have used a bit more excitement and action sequences.

The acting performances in "Bogieville" are good, and it was nice to see Indonesian actor Arifin Putra in an American movie. Director Sean Cronin was also starring in the movie. I was actually only familiar with Arifin Putra on the entire cast list.

Visually then "Bogieville" was good. The vampires look feral, and doesn't have that archetypical charming appearance that you would expect from the Bram Stoker's inspired vampires.

This movie will appeal to fans of the vampire genre at large, of that I am sure. I was moderately entertained, but it is hardly a movie that warrants more than a single viewing.

My rating of director Sean Cronin's 2024 movie "Bogieville" lands on a five out of ten stars.

Lousyville is more like it.

I'm pretty forgiving for horror and science-fiction but this is just BAD. The acting is a just step above community theater and whoever wrote this needs to be flogged. Low budget horror can often be good. Vampire films like Near Dark can be very good. This had no interesting characters or a point.

I'd say its a complete waste of time to watch but even that would be high praise and that any streaming company would charge for this monstrosity is a crime. Okay here's a quick synopsis. 'Our' hero gets fired from his job. He heads over to see his girlfriend who works at a bar. She's actually pretty. So they need to leave town quickly. Behind in rent and all.

So off they go to find work, etc. They drive along until they hit someone or something. So they stop to try and find out what happened and to get help. Hey there is a trailer park up ahead.

This of course is Bogieville.

I really enjoyed Bogieville

I really enjoyed this film. With the storyline and concept, I found it to be thrilling with a zombie thriller concept all the way through.

To be honest, even at the end (I won't give too much away), but I was thinking 'what happens next then with the couple?'. I am hoping for a sequel.

I think the cast and the crew did an amazing job with making this film :-)

The makeup also on the cast were brilliant. The whole set up of the location made it look spooky looking - which made it more interesting. The suspense was at times intense. I would highly recommend this film to anyone.

Well done to everyone involved :-)

Jump scares and gore galore

I really enjoyed this film and the budget may have been low but the ingenuity and creative skills employed were a credit to all involved. The story was original the sound track perfection, makeup, special effects and the standard of acting was excellent. The horror was interspersed with poignant moments alongside wry humour, thoroughly enjoyable. The critics obviously don't appreciate the talent and effort that goes into indie films and should be ashamed at their bad judgement and lack of support to the industry. Script writers, film makers, crew and actors give their all to these projects and negative and downright unfair comments have a huge impact on the earning potential. Uncalled for.

Quality low budget horror

It is a very low budget film, but although clearly limited with it's production options, the actual story and the effects are very well.handled. Avoids some predictable horror clichés and is clearly trying it's own thing, even with acknowledgement that it's inspired by a bigger budget 80s horror classic. Maybe reworking the story to be more UK based would help give it a few more options on the overall production. But you cannot deny the effort put in by all involved to deliver their best for this production. Would begreat to see what could be achieved with a much bigger budget for future efforts.

Bogieville - UK Premiere

So I had the pleasure of going to the UK premiere of Sean Cronin's independent British horror film Bogieville.

Now for me I am sold already as it's a vampire movie, I felt Bogieville did take a little well to get going at first it felt more like a drama than a horror movie but once the story had invested and progressed it started to get into it a lot more.

For me it was bloody camp and fun, ignore some of the accents but hats of to the British cast for trying to do a redneck accent , rather you than me.

The vampires looked fantastic , for me it had shades of hills have eyes meets daybreakers.

Overall this was a fun film and it's great to see British indie horror , independent cinema is well and truly alive, just want to thank Sean and the crew for an amazing night , met some lovely people .

Long live independent cinema.

A perfect blend of jump scares, carnage, humour and anticipation to make a highly recommended horror film!

This was a great low budget horror film, that I highly recommend to anyone, especially horror fans.

The cast were amazing, the storyline was great, the cinematography was stunning (especially the caravan park) and the VFX were commendable!

I am not a horror fan. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The jump scares were great. Although it was a horror, it was not too gory. The storyline was interesting and different to what I would've expected it to be and I would recommend this to any film, but even if you're not a fan of horror.

Hats off to the director of the cast and the crew. Great work on this film. From Rob Horrocks (insta: @rob_horrocks).

Punches Above its Weight

This is a very ambitious project. It provides thrills, scares, gore, really good teeth and a whole new twist on the vampire genre.

Its ambitious because it was probably made for a modest budget, but the effects alone bely that. From a technical point of view the prosthetics look amazing and the CG work is top notch.

But its also a hoot - in a good way, lots of nasty snarling bad guys chomping down on some wholesome neck. Mostly red neck actually as this is set in the deep South of the US.

Some stand out performances here too. It may not be the most fancy and accomplished vampire flick of all time, but if you are after a roller coaster of gore and lashings of pointy teeth - then this is for you.

fantastic

Sure, I can help with that. Here's a 600-word review of why you liked the horror movie:

---

I recently watched Bogieville which left a lasting impression on me, and I'd like to share why it resonated so deeply. The film masterfully combined elements of suspense, psychological thrills, and classic horror tropes, creating an experience that was both terrifying and intellectually stimulating.

First and foremost, the plot was exceptionally well-crafted. Unlike many horror movies that rely heavily on jump scares and gore, this film took the time to build a compelling narrative. The story was layered with intricate details and subplots that kept me engaged from start to finish. The pacing was perfect, gradually increasing the tension and fear without ever feeling rushed or forced. Each scene was meticulously designed to add to the overall atmosphere of dread, making the eventual climax all the more impactful.

The characters were another standout aspect of the movie. Often in horror films, characters can feel one-dimensional or clichéd, but that wasn't the case here. The protagonists were well-developed, with backstories and motivations that made their actions and reactions believable. I found myself genuinely caring about their fates, which only heightened the suspense. The antagonist, too, was a fascinating and terrifying presence. Rather than being a mindless monster, the villain had a complex and disturbing personality that made them all the more frightening.

The cinematography and visual effects were also top-notch. The use of lighting and shadows was particularly effective in creating a sense of unease. Many scenes were shot in dimly lit environments, with just enough light to make out the horrors lurking in the background. This technique kept me on the edge of my seat, constantly scanning the screen for any signs of danger. The special effects were used sparingly but to great effect, enhancing the realism of the supernatural elements without overshadowing the story.

Sound design played a crucial role in the film's success as well. The soundtrack was hauntingly beautiful, with eerie melodies and unsettling soundscapes that perfectly complemented the visuals. The use of silence was equally powerful, with many scenes relying on the absence of sound to build tension. Every creak, whisper, and footstep was amplified, making the quiet moments just as terrifying as the loud ones.

Another reason I enjoyed this movie was its exploration of deeper themes. Beyond the scares and shocks, the film delved into psychological and existential questions that added a layer of depth to the horror. It explored the nature of fear, the impact of past traumas, and the lengths people will go to protect their loved ones. These themes were woven seamlessly into the narrative, enriching the story and giving me plenty to think about long after the credits rolled.

The film also paid homage to classic horror movies while bringing something new to the table. There were subtle nods to iconic scenes and tropes from the genre, which felt like a respectful tribute rather than a lazy imitation. At the same time, the movie introduced fresh ideas and innovative scares that set it apart from its predecessors. This blend of old and new made for a unique and satisfying viewing experience.

Lastly, the movie's ending was both surprising and satisfying. Without giving too much away, I'll say that it managed to tie up the story's loose ends while leaving room for interpretation. It was the kind of ending that stayed with me, prompting me to revisit earlier scenes and reconsider their significance. This open-ended conclusion felt true to the film's overall tone and themes, providing a fitting end to a memorable journey.

In conclusion, this horror movie stood out to me for its well-crafted plot, compelling characters, stunning visuals, and thought-provoking themes. It was a perfect blend of suspense, psychological intrigue, and classic horror elements, making it a film that I thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend to any fan of the genre.

Great horror really well done.

Love the original story great film shot really well by the original vision. Great director and great cast really well made and put together horror film. This is the sort of filmmaking we all look forward to seeing and new way of doing things is a great way and it really works well. Definately worth watching if you love horror and this a new style that is popular and in demand. The way the cast portray the characters is great and I was never bored but on the edge of my seat a thrilling horror that keep you moving and going with it all the way through. Film making at the new next level definately worth a must see watch.
