The Gracefield Incident

Tried to get into it, seemed like a good plot line and fairly decent actors. But was this made for the geriatric crowd? Why did all the lines need to be yelled? Just seems like they were all trying to draw attention to themselves by being the loudest.

To start, I'm not an educated film critic. I watch movies for entertainment value, mostly. I watched The Gracefield Incident to be entertained and I was.

When others say this is the worst movie/acting/soundtrack ever, I don't think they've seen: All Hallows Eve: October 30th, The Yearly Harvest, Chameleon Shadow, or, 666: The Beast, just to name a few. Watch those and The Gracefield Incident will move to a 10 star film.

So inconsistent. Tell me, how does a camera move by itself and manage to get different angles? The camera during the main guy's encounter with the alien did. And it had a soundtrack, and audio from his eye camera. And his American accent was terrible. Oh and the film sounded like it was dubbed. I could go on and on with all the flaws. But the director is the writer and the main lead, so there you go. Trying to do it all and falling miserably all across the board.

A shame that the acting was so wooden (particularly from lead role Mathieu Ratthe) and all narrative was so over explained and needlessly dramatic (even in non dramatic moments). Because there were some good scary moments. And at no point did it make me want to turn off. But the need for the main character to explain everything in shouty monotone, particularly toward the end, and to jump to conclusions with no seeming explanation did get a little tiring. Completely didn't care about any of them. Except for the dog. Who no one seemed to care about at all. Poor dog. Best actor of the lot.

The Gracefield Incident starts promisingly, it even comes up with a concept to justify the whole thing being recorded and I started to think this might surprise.

Alas it didn't, in fact within about 20 minutes it soon descends into that found footage formula we've had shoved down our throats for the past couple of decades and brings no originality to the table.

Group of 20 somethings go out to have fun in a secluded cabin and become targeted by aliens. That's basically it.

Kudos to them for the sfx because though they aren't fantastic at least they didn't do the usual thing of not showing you anything to keep the budget down.

The film isn't without its moments but ultimately this is just yet another flawed found footage mess.

The Good:

Great twist on the justification for still recording when crap is going down

Decent enough start

Becomes real generic real fast
