Cooper Barrett does nothing new in the 2010s of single-camera 20- something to 30-something bachelor sitcoms. It's venturing in a sea of canceled shows, finished shows and currently airing shows that have more to offer than it.
Cooper Barrett represents a skeleton of a great show where the writing just isn't good enough. The show could really use some sharper, funnier writing. The jokes aren't hitting that well consistently, the show is so close to being funny, because the style of comedy in this show is right up my alley. The cast is fine, but they lack the pizazz, the flare and true symmetry of a cast from let's say, New Girl or Don't Trust the B----, and Don't Trust the B- --- is not that much better than Cooper but what it has is sharper timing on jokes and better delivery.
Cooper Barrett himself is probably the lowest point of the show, and that's not terrible since he's just dull and not intolerable, however he seems like a Nickelodeon sitcom teen grown up and given his own show, he's generic in the sense that he ends up attracting most of the attractive side characters in the show and he looks good, but his interests and personality is nothing unique enough to write home about.
Cooper Barrett is just enjoyable enough for me to finish watching the first season and I'm genuinely curious if the show falling short was just due to the show not having enough time to truly find it's groove or if the cast/writing wasn't up to par.

It is a story about a group of graduates at the beginning of their careers going through mishaps and hilarities in life, and resolving them to a good end. The style was relaxing and fun. It brushed upon the value of comradeship among friends, the comedic dynamic between siblings, the inevitable need to face and resolve emotional backlogs, and the likely requirement of timing in getting girls. The story stands complete in this series. Good for chilling.
Based on the previews, I thought this was a scripted version of Jack Ass. A couple months later, I noticed it on Hulu, and decided to give it a look. Color me surprised. Not only is it not in the least like Jack Ass, it's a pretty well written comedy that, while not really breaking new ground, does a very good job of repackaging elements in an entertaining way that feels fresh. The first, and so far, only, episodes have been a nice treat after a long day.
Wow. Apparently, my review isn't long enough, so I'll risk blocking by trying to expand it, without adding anything more. Why? Because I think I pretty much summed it up. Surprisingly good show.

Yeah this show is just getting thrashed by the people who watch FOX too much. FOX loves to dumb down shows so EVERYONE can understand EVERY humorous situation, so I can see why 90% of the funny moments can go over your head if you can't relate or understand all the context to the funny lines which make it funny. Takes a little bit of thinking almost.
To my fellow lovers of the legendary comedies like scrubs or always sunny, you will definitely love this show.
If your definition of really funny is how i met your mother (which is one of the better hold your hand laugh track programs, ill admit) and you sit there wondering why some people in your life quote always sunny like religion when it "doesn't even make sense" then you should probably avoid this show
oh oh and enough with the malcom in the middle comparisons. breaking the fourth wall is just that, its not malcom in the middling

Cooper Barrett (Jack Cutmore-Scott), Barry Sandel (James Earl), and Neal Fissley (Charlie Saxton) are school friends, and twenty something roommates. They come up with a hangover cure. There's the neighbor Kelly Bishop (Meaghan Rath), Cooper's brother Josh (Justin Bartha) and his wife Leslie (Liza Lapira). The premise is that they make stupid mistakes teaching the audience what not to do.
This is a fun likable multi-ethnic young group. None of them are outrageously funny. There is good chemistry. It's nothing special and no big laughs. It works to some extent but canceled after a half season.
