Actor Vijay Sethupathi has never been afraid to experiment with unconventional roles and offbeat films. In "Orange Mittai" Vijay Sethupathi plays Kailasam, an arrogant, short-tempered 55-year-old, whose only source of entertainment in his boring life is his frequent trips to the hospital. Its bitter sweet story of a son looking for a father figure and a father looking for a son to love. Orange Mittai is directed by acclaimed director Biju Viswanath, whose works include award-winning films like Déjàvu and Marathon. The film appears more like a real-life incident. The most important aspect of this film is that, even though its speaks about estranged father son relationships ,the movie doesn't stoop of melodrama and usual emotional gimmicks in regular Tamil cinema. The film ends on the note that"journey is destination" which sums up the felling that you get while watching the movie. Feel good movie, definitely watchable.
Vijay Sethupathi know to take up a few unconventional roles and driven his career in path thats often ignored - In Orange Mittai albeit he looks a tad healthier than a 55 year old ( I may be wrong here - a lot of village men are healthier than their urban counterparts) - Kailasam, short-tempered, egoistic man is played in an utmost nonchalantly manner - by Vijay . Kudos!!
the story of a father and son ( father of a different son & son of a different father) both looking for love, affection and respect is a great thought .Directed by Biju Viswanath ,Orange Mittai might not appeal to the so called 'mass' audience - The film is a close real-life experience, if the viewer has come across similar characters in their lives if not be one of them - Ramesh Thilak, has been equally good in a character sandwiched in emotions ranging from job frustrations, helplessness with his love interest - many scenes albeit not intended to be a comedy, will make you chuckle - like the one in the hospital, when the doctor speaks loudly to VijaySethupathi, after a long stare tells him politely that he is not deaf... is so true.
overall the movie is worth a praise - Biju has proved his excellence in cinematography that creates the mood and the narration - watch it !!
If you really love your dad and you are not living with him am damn sure that you will call him and talk or you will go and meet him after watching this movie. Human relationships are very important than anything in this world this movie made us understand that in a subtle manner thanks to director Biju for giving this movie
I was so unlucky that I missed this movie in theatres. Was waiting badly to watch this movie after seeing a few scenes on TV. Thank God, Netflix made it possible. Yaay, I watched it. I should say this is one of the sweetest films I've ever seen. This is not your regular masala movie. This is a brave experiment that needs to be appreciated. The beauty of the story lies in its simplicity. All the characters have played their part very well. Cinematography was top notch. Vijay sethupathi as usual lived his character. This is the first time he had played a character of an aged person. No wonder this man is liked by all. Director Biju's narration needs a special mention. The director has made it clear to keep the narration as natural as possible avoiding all possible cliches. The scene where Kailasam (Vijay sethupathi) gets down from the auto and starts dancing on the road in the middle of the night was a treat to watch. Quirky dialogues ensured every character had their own depth. Ramesh Thilak needs a special mention. His role as a paramedic will be one of his best. Watch it if you like feel good cinema. You won't regret. I have added this film to my list of favourites and will watch it whenever I want to feel light. Orange mittai tasted good. Real good. Thanks to the entire crew of "Orange Mittai". You made my day :-)
Orange Mittai.... according to the title, movie has both sweet and sour.... Beautifully Revolves around 3 characters. Not a usual melodrama. thanks to the director :-)
