the world of the oligarchy

The whole police procedural aside, this is an intimate look into the heart of Russian passion. The camera loves the lead actor. Is it a Russian thing that he can convey a thousand words with just a look and snort and that you want to cry when he gives the camera that self- depreciating smirk that says the world has broken his heart again, but he doesn't care because he is a survivor. Fun. Funny. Informing of all things Russian. A must see

Worth watching

Despite a few pretty obvious inconsistencies between the episodes, the (not much believable) dead rising and annoying love triangle, the series are still worth watching. I left Russia many years ago and it was fascinating to see how the cinematography and Russian story telling involved. It also doesn't hurt, that everyone, specially women, are gorgeous and smart, the summer and winter Moscow/St Peterburg scenes are breath taken and the story is sad and funny at the same time.

Can't wait for third season

I hope there is another season of this show. The second series ended with at least 3 major cliff hangers. Also the cast list in IMDB is missing a lot of the actors who were only in the second season

Police procedural drama series with a difference

I did not think it possible to come up with a Police procedural drama series with a difference, but Mazhor, (Silver Spoon in English) has done so. A drama with comedy undertones, set in modern Moscow as a wealthy young playboy. Igor, arrested for street racing while on drugs is saved from a lengthy prison sentence by his powerful father who sends him to work in a police department (straight in to the detective bureau, no police academy. His arrival is resented by everyone from the chief down - but what can they do - his father is a very powerful man. The police captain is a beautiful woman who is close to another officer, and the arrival of the rich entitled new boy stirs up jealousy among the working stiffs - need I say more? It does not help that Igor has no idea that other people actually work for a living and cannot buy their way out of every problem.

Some things may surprise viewers raised on cold war tales of severe hardship and privations in Russia. Apartments are large, even for sewer cleaners, no queues for food and necessities, it is always glorious summer (we may see snow later in the series) everyone has a cell phone and I-pad, young people spend their days and nights at the clubs, and many characters drink at least a bottle of whisky or vodka a day straight from the bottle and often in one go! Igor, the main character is played by a handsome permanently tanned actor with a gift for comedy and entitlement swagger. Overall, the series is a welcome change from the routine hard ass feminist policewoman going it her own way, quarreling with her supervisor and all the other officers, yet in many ways it is still formulaic and by the numbers - the Russian setting puts a fresh coat of paint on an old routine. How long before police dramas go the way of the Westerns? ?

Why is it Russia can present a plausible female boss while we can't?

I'm guessing most of the Netflix audience might think they should avoid anything from Russia, well, they're missing out, big time. The biggest draw here is definitely the main lead, Pavel Priluchnyy as Igor, the son of a super-rich oligarch. The guy's got a great ability to conjure up a spoiled young man who drives a Corvette but is simultaneously impressive and easy to relate to, believe it or not. This actor is as good as our best young stars, maybe better.

But for me his immediate supervisor, Karina Razumovskaya as Victoria, is just as good, if not even better. What I realized after a few episodes is, she is more real and convincing than any of our current crop of American women in authority, but I'm having a hard time pinpointing why. I guess when she considers what she should have her men do next, you can see the wheels turning in her beautiful eyes. All I know is having seen quite a few of these episodes, there's an odd grasp of reality at play here that's woefully missing from our own mixed gender cop shows.

Honestly, I look forward to seeing new episodes more than I do our usual TV fare. I highly recommend this view from the other side.

Another enjoyable show from Russia

Give this series a chance! It is funny, dramatic and has some pretty intriguing actors. I am not particularly enamored with the lead actor. He can be funny and entertaining at times, but lacks the acting chops for the more serious scenes. He also wears more makeup than Farrah Fawcett on Charlie's Angels. YIKES The woman that plays the captain is both beautiful and an excellent actress. She really steals every scene she is in, along with her love interest, who is quietly, a very strong handsome actor. It is entertaining to watch, the story lines are sometimes inconsistent. The supporting cast is good. I would recommend it.

Finally a good series.

After spending much time searching for a good show I came across this show. It doesn't have any macho heroes. It doesn't have fantastic computer animation. What it has. A good story line. Fun caricatures. All around good fun while solving crimes.

A good start and mediocre sequels

The three seasons were shot in the same style, and although the plot in the third is much weaker and dumber than in the first two, it is also interesting to watch it.

Even in the first two seasons, even jokes slip through, but the further they go, the fewer they are.

Then there was a movie that was released between seasons 3 and 4. It has nothing to do with the plot of the series. The filler turns out.

Then there was the shortest - season 4 of 8 episodes. A different color scheme, a square jaw at Priluchny and a plot ... some kind of crap, but because of the small volume, the result is a feeling: well, I looked and looked.

Another film was released in the same year. The major left Sochi 😬

Again, there is no connection with the series, but this time it was shot more beautifully, although there are fewer memorable events than in the last film.

It is not required to be viewed.

It has everything!

This is a brilliant thriller/police drama that will make you cry and laugh. THe characters are brilliantly crafted and unique but also typical Russians. You feel for them, empathize and identify their joy, sadness, fear, etc.

The first season I would give only 6 stars but the second season upped it, the cinematography, the slick editing, the masterful performances. This will thoruroghly entertain you and keep you at times laughing or tearful. It is gritty at times and also intriguing. Second season is a real work of art - Looking forward to Season 3

Bad casting

It's marginally entertaining despite a silly and juvenile plot. Fun for Americans to have a glimpse of Russian humor despite "Lost in Translation" issues. But the quintessential cast of Russians characters is marred by gross mismatching of a tall patrician looks Leningrad Biron actor as the main character's father and blonde beauty as the mother with a swarthy short ethnic actor as their son and expecting anyone to buy it. Not discrimination but glaringly not believable. Diverse casting is fine when offspring are the same race and look like their parents but here it's jarring unless We find our in the plot twist is that our silver spoon was adopted.

Fast paced Revenge story with humor

This is obviously not very realistic. If you're only watching it with subtitles, it's basically a waste of time. In Russian, you get the nuances of insults, humor, cynicism and so on. Story itself is powerful but weak. Plenty if plot holes and unrealistic expectations, but what did you expect.

In the end, it's enjoyable but forgettable. I wouldn't rewatch it, but enjoyed initial one. Funniest line is when he was about to signup prenup, instead of countering it with his own terms, he signs in and say that's Russian way or something like that. Upon seeing that, his future bride's father, takes it and throws it in the trash and says, no, that's the Russian way.

Enjoy the ride, while it lasts, cause u'll forget it once it's done.

Silver Spoon

This Russian series is centred on Igor Sokolovsky, he is the son of an oligarch and enjoys a playboy lifestyle. After a run in with the police his somewhat exasperated father pulls strings to get him off but also gives Igor an ultimatum; he must work with the police or he will be cut off. He is not welcome with the unit he is assigned to... his previous activities caused trouble for two of them. Igor isn't keen but gradually learns the ropes and also decides to use his new position to investigate the death of his mother twenty years previously. Officially she committed suicide but he isn't so sure; as he starts asking questions those who might know the answers start turning up dead. He also starts developing feelings for his boss, Captain Viktoriya Rodionova, which further raises tensions as she is seeing another member of the unit.

I really enjoyed this series; it contains a good mix of humour and drama; this drama is occasionally surprisingly gritty and delivers some genuine shocks. There is a good mix of single episode cases and Igor's ongoing investigations. One does have to suspend ones disbelief at times; most obviously how Igor is placed with a unit which investigates serious crimes without undergoing even basic police training... once things get going this was fairly easy to overlook. The series nicely contrasts the lives of ordinary people with those whose wealth enables them to have what they want when they want without worrying about the cost. The cast does an impressive job bringing the various characters to life. I enjoyed the first two seasons and hope Netflix get the third season soon as season two ended with a shocking cliff-hanger. Overall I'd certainly recommend this to fans of subtitled crime drama.

These comments are based on watching the first two seasons in Russian with English subtitles.

Pleasantly surprised. Got Hooked to it.

The series is really entertaining. The cases running along are not great investigative watch but the plot which runs simultaneously keeps you hooked. Victoria and Sokolovsky Jr. are really great and the interaction of the characters is wholly believable. Even the predictable bits are entertaining enough to keep you interested for more. All the other characters have played their part really well. Special mention for the cinematography too. An intriguing and entertaining series. Would love to watch similar dramas from Russia.Worth the binge!!

A wonderful find in Netflix library with engaging characters and plot twists. This is an extremely well written crime mystery drama. From the opening episode it draws one in and listening to the Russian dialogue with subtitles only adds to the charm of this gem of a series.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Great Police Procedural but unique

Unfortunately, this show doesn't seem to be available in the US anymore, but Netflix brought it out a few years back. It's a police procedural but because it's Russian, it has a different take on the action and the characters.

It's got a great soap opera aspect going on inside the the police force and another plot going on about society and crime.

The lead actor is perfect as far as I am concerned. He does a great job of portraying the spoiled son forced to grow up by doing what he initially considers to be work beneath him. Loved the female lead as well. What a heart breaker.

What I like most about the show is that the characters continue to grow as the show goes on. I highly recommend.

100% should watch

Mazhor (aka Silver Spoon) is hands down one of the best series I've ever watched! The story is about a spoiled rich kid who ends up working in the police force after a reckless mistake. What starts as a punishment quickly turns into a gripping journey of transformation as Igor faces harsh realities, uncovers family secrets, and discovers his true purpose. The character development is phenomenal! Igor's evolution from an arrogant playboy to a determined and compassionate detective feels so real and raw. His interactions with his colleagues, the intense cases, and the emotional struggles he goes through make you root for him throughout. The plot is fast-paced, full of unexpected twists, and keeps you hooked from start to finish which is just amazing and so entertaining to watch. Every season raises the stakes, blending action, drama, and emotion perfectly. Whether you love crime, suspense, or heartfelt character arcs, Mazhor delivers it all flawlessly.

If you haven't seen Mazhor yet, do yourself a favour and start now! It's a rollercoaster of emotions that you won't want to get off at least I didnt.
