Written by Samantha Allen, horror-comedy novel Patricia Wants to Cuddle is headed to the screen with a movie adaptation from Sophia Takal (Black Christmas), Variety reports.

The outlet notes, “The book, a satire of American media culture that blends slasher and queer romance genres, is the debut work of fiction from Samantha Allen.”

Patricia Wants to Cuddle follows the final four contestants on a reality TV dating show called “The Catch” as they arrive on a remote island in the Pacific Northwest, prepared for another week of sleep deprivation, invasive interviews, and salacious drama.

Each has her own reason for joining the show, from brand sponsorships to trying to amass followers to even finding love.

Exclusive: Blue Therapy maker Osun Group has optioned its first book in the shape of Yrsa Daley-Ward’s fiction novel The Catch.

This will see Daley-Ward making her TV screenwriting debut by adapting the book, which is billed as a “supernatural thriller exploring sisterhood, identity, and the radical act of choosing yourself.”

Early stage work has begun on an adaptation for a returning series, marking Osun’s first book-to-screen acquisition and a first scripted project unveiled from a slate of projects. Osun’s Head of Drama, Sheila Nortley, who first worked with Daley-Ward on the 2011 indie feature David is Dying, struck the option agreement.

Daley-Ward, Supacell exec Nortley and Osun founder Luti Fagbenle are executive producers, with the process of finding a showrunner, director and on-screen talent underway.

Under SAG-AFTRA contracts, Netflix productions must follow union minimums, currently $1,148 per day or $4,019 per week for actors on movies with budgets over $2 million. As per this calculation, leads like Carson likely earn between $500K and $1 million, co-lead Corey Mylchreest around $300K-$600K, and supporting actors earning $10K to $50K based on days worked. The compensation may vary according to the actor’s experience, the demand of their role, the production budget, and various costs.

Netflix just released the official trailer for My Oxford Year, starring Queen Charlotte‘s Corey Mylchreest and Carry-On‘s Sofia Carson. If you haven’t read Julia Whelan’s novel, based on a story by Allison Burnett, the two-minute trailer reveals a lot (maybe too much?) about the couple at the heart of the film.

Mireille Enos has joined the cast of “For All Mankind” Season 5 at Apple TV+, Variety has learned.

Enos will appear in the space race historical fiction drama in a series regular role as Celia Boyd, described as “a member of the Peacekeeper Security Force on Mars.”

The role reunites Enos with “For All Mankind” star Joel Kinnaman. The two previously starred opposite one another in the AMC/Netflix series “The Killing,” for which Enos was nominated for an Emmy and Golden Globe for best lead actress in a drama. Her other TV credits include “Lucky Hank” at AMC, “Hanna” at Amazon Prime Video (which also starred Kinnaman), “Big Love” at HBO, and “The Catch” at ABC. Tragic news out of Hollywood today, as actor Adan Canto has passed away at the age of 42.

The multi-talented star first became famous as a musician in his native Mexico before shifting his focus to acting.

In recent years, Canto starred in such popular American series as The Cleaning Lady and Designated Survivor.

According to Deadline, Canto died following a private battle with appendiceal cancer.

Though his life was tragically cut short, Canto compiled an impressive resumé and amassed a sizable fan base during his brief career.

He is survived by his wife, artist Stephanie Lindquist, and their two children.

Born in Coahuila, Mexico and raised primarily in Texas, Canto moved to Mexico City at 16 to try and make it as a musician.

Adan Canto, who can be remembered by Marvel fans for his role as Sunspot in X-Men: Days of Future Past, has died.

Per Deadline, Canto passed away on Jan. 8 following a private battle with appendiceal cancer. His passing was confirmed by his reps, who noted in a statement, “Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever. He will be greatly missed by so many.” The Mexican-American actor was just 42 years old.

The actor was best known for his role as Nicholas Almain on NBC’s daytime drama Days of Our Lives and also as Eddie Duran in Hollywood Heights. He was 34.

Longo was found dead in February at his home in Austin, according to TMZ. His wife, Stephanie Clark, became concerned that she couldn’t reach him while working at a local dance studio and asked police to do a welfare check. He was found dead in bed when officers arrived, TMZ reported.

At the time, his representative, Alex Gittelson, told the New York Times that Longo had struggled with alcohol addiction for years, but also had recent period of sobriety.

Luke Evans and Callum Scott Howells are among the stars of upcoming BBC drama The Way from Michael Sheen, James Graham and Adam Curtis.

Sheen, who is also directing, will star in The Way with Steffan Rhodri and Mali Harries. The drama, announced in February, comes from Welsh indie Red Seam.

Deadline is reporting that the star who headlined The Killing for the cabler has joined the cast of Straight Man.

The series keeps Bob Odenkirk in the AMC family following his role as Saul Goodman in both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

"Straight Man is a mid-life crisis tale set at Railton College, told in the first person by William Henry Devereaux, Jr. (Odenkirk), the unlikely chairman of the English department in a badly underfunded college in the Pennsylvania rust belt," reads the cabler's official description.

Entertainment One has hired Christopher Kennedy from Universal International Studios as Development Executive – UK, Television. In the new role, Kennedy will oversee development for the studio’s original scripted drama slate, with a focus on relationships with top-tier UK talent.
