24 Hours in Police Custody

A real hidden gem

There are a lot of shows similar to this, plodding documentaries about airport staff and emergency wards, they all seem to be about enjoying a kind of mundane mellow-drama and invoking a sense of superiority as you watch tattooed morons getting caught trying to smuggle cocaine through customs or being treated after getting in a fist fight with their landlord or some other rubbish

this show is nothing like that, every episode follows either one case or a two or three cases, most of which are truly horrifying and you get to see how clumsy and clunky the justice system can be while also understanding that it has to be that way to maintain impartiality and fairness, it's a wonderful insight into a world that really matters.

I never would of heard of this show if it wasn't for Bob Mortimer's hilarious Athletico Mince podcast, I recommend both this show and the podcast highly

A must see

Compared to all the other related shows, this one stands apart from the pact. The massive hurdles but the dedication is just astounding. This is a rare reality show that makes all others look like bad tv. They really are just amazing peeps

Compelling

In its later series, '24 Hours in Police Custody' doesn't exactly do what is says on the tin, showing us instead police investigations as they unfold over months or even years. It's true crime, at its most honest and also most horrific; I like to believe in the basic good of human nature, but these episodes tell some pretty grim stories, and also show quite how hard it can be to secure a conviction. There have been sadly far too many terrible miscarriages of justice: here the police are the heroes, patiently assembling the evidence, treating the accused (on-camera at least) with respect, and not always succeeding in spite of their efforts. Even when they win, the words "happy ending" would be misplaced. I'm a little scared at the thought that if I was ever a suspect, I might end up being shown on television; but the series is a compelling insight into life at the very bottom of society.

Massively underrated, this programme is captivating.

Seriously well put together and makes a mockery of your typical policing programmes.

Top of the list.

Arguably "true crime" has never seen a better documentary. The awarding of ten stars is without ambiguity, without doubt, without considering "the nine". 24 Hours in Police Custod has, to date, had 19 different directors - rather suggesting that it is the format, more than anything else, that lies behind the greatness.

All "top-end-documentary-requirements" are in place; the showing of all sides to the story, the balanced rhetoric, the flow, the sense of being there, the unfolding of the story, the suspense and the conclusion.

This is high end drama without the "changes for dramatical purposes". This is, also, one of the rare documentaries that truly motivates the claim; "reality is greater than fiction".

Greatness comes in many shapes and forms. Within its genre - 24 Hours in Police Custody is arguably the " hottest ticket in town" - If there was one series to choose this could be the one.

Pure drama

Pure drama that challenges the perception of modern day police work and the modern day accused

Different and good

I've only seen the first two seasons and so far I really like it. It shows the day to day process that detectives go through to build cases. There's not the flash that are a big part of so many shows, just good honest police work. I want to see more. Highly recommended.

One of the best programmes on TV

Gripping, unpredictable, shocking. A fantastic insight into the Police in Beds/Cambs. Unmissable TV.

Fantastic!

My sympathy to the officers in the UK. Must be difficult to have only 24 hours to process even obvious criminals. Our cop shows (USA) show a lot of violence both real and dramatically enhanced.

It is a pretty eye opening experience

I can say (no comment) after watching this show (no comment) that if you want to be a career criminal (no comment) that the best place to do it (no comment) would be in the UK.

Some of the (no comment) sentences given to pretty horrific crimes are (no comment) laughable at best. The show is extremely well done though and the officers are talented (no comment) but 80 percent of the interviews are filled with (no comment). It is definitely worth a watch - albeit a frustrating one.

As a career law enforcement official (no comment) I know that there are flaws, many flaws but after (no comment) many years of dealing with the US Justice system (no comment) I am a bit more thankful however both need fixing and it is depressing. A solid 7.5 for me.

Not reflective of Beds Police

This show is effectively a propaganda show for Bedfordshire Police and is not in anyway reflective of who they really are and just how incompetent they actually are.

The cases in this will every now and again show the real character of the officers such as the DS who jumps to conclusions and immediately decides someone is guilty.

The reality of this police force is so far from this and is in fact the most incompetent and pathetic police force in the country. The stories are interesting but not reflective in anyway of reality and for this reason I have scored this a one. If I could have scored it minus so it truly reflect these scumbags then I would have done.

Nightmare Fuel

24 Hours in Police Custody is a documentary series highlighting the crimes that occur every single day in Bedfordshire (or others close). This is one of those series where the people who are making these, clearly want to show no bounds in terms of graphic images. They want you to look at reality in the eye. And for a documentary series that mostly revolve around murders, drugs, rapes, I have to say, and honored, they are absolutely spectacular at doing it.

I always go back to watch episodes of 24 Hours, because it is very interesting to see just how devious, foolish, or organized these criminals are in each episode. It almost makes you feel like a detective, and you're there. You'd feel half the vibes in this series, because it is extremely bleak (but not a putting-off bleak). The series itself is intense with its investigations, and that just adds to the authenticity. I wouldn't be surprised if this show got slammed by viewers, it's extremely realistic, and incredible.
