Four girls seek to spend a weekend at a mysterious cabin in the woods in Texas when all hell breaks loose (no, seriously).
"Lake Fear" (2014), aka "Cypress Creek," starts as a potentially worthwhile low-budget cabin-in-the-woods Indie with notable opening credits, a serviceable cast of females and an outstanding metal track, but 9 minutes in it becomes clear that this is a micro-budget flick. This would be okay, but the idea of an actual script is abandoned shortly after the teens arrive at the cabin in exchange for a tedious hour of horror F/X and creepy film techniques, which are well done, but useless when there's no attempt to offer an interesting STORY. It doesn't help that the guy who plays Remington is a lousy "actor."
The flick comes across as if the cast & crew of "The Evil Dead" (1981) dropped acid, threw out the script, and just screwed around with scary visuals & gore at a remote cabin; and then tried to make it work in the editing room. It's so utterly dull that I would leave the room to go to the bathroom or get something from the kitchen without caring about pausing it (something I never do). The fact that there are currently two sequels is incredible.
The movie runs 1 hour, 21 minutes, and was shot in Dallas, Texas.

Or, how NOT to make a horror movie. I guess part 2 is a sequel in name only ... Wait, Lake Fear One is called Cypress Creek here?! Now I'm really baffled.
Absolutely zero semblance of a plot. Four girls go to a cabin. Complete and utter nonsense transpires. This was categorized as a comedy(!) on imdb, which made me curious. For a good laugh, read the synopsis on the back of the DVD box after viewing. It is 100% fictitious. Lake Fear is easily the cheapest, most ineffective Evil Dead knockoff I've ever seen. You can keep a checklist as you watch: "Stuff ripped off from Evil Dead." I counted one cool shot, and it involved fireworks(!) in the special effects budget. Plenty of girls covered in blood, so I guess it's not a total loss.

Saw this on Tubi recently and figured I'd give it a shot. Man, what a mistake. I'd rather watch 2 turtles cross a football field.
I can't even begin to tell you how bad this film is! I have just wasted nearly 80 minutes of my life and I feel like suing the distributors of this film for even agreeing to make it public! I feel sorry for the actors to be honest, they probably won't get chance to work again. Audio track is distracting at best, badly edited and annoying at worst, effects and gore are very poor quality, DVD case plot seems reasonable, in reality its boring. I only sat through it because I thought "it MUST get better", but it doesn't. Starts like a poor quality parody, and just gets worse and worse.
If this was on youtube as a college kids attempt at a horror made with friends, it would be poor. As a public released film where people are expected to pay money to watch, no, its wrong, someone should have stopped this film ever getting pressed to DVD! Seriously, its junk, buy it just to see how bad a film can be, you will want a refund!

I usually don't write reviews, but I had to make an exception for this one. The entire movie plot was basically non existent nothing made sense, at some point random events just started happening mixed with "special" effects and annoying sounds (very "special" since they were beyond terrible and will give you a headache) there was never any explanation as to why anything was happening let alone who the "creatures" were that were shown. For a great part it seems like they tried to recreate The Ring, at which they failed miserably. The acting was below average and not convincing in the least. I can't believe this was ever actually released. Awful, Just awful!! And how this movie got a rating of 6.8 will remain a mystery for me.
