The French-Algerian filmmaker and politician Yamini Benguigui delves into her personal history archive in this semi-autobiographical drama. An emotional yet strangely vacant story of three sisters’ 30 years of torment from the kidnapping of their brother at the hands of an abusive father.

Centring on siblings, Zorah (Isabelle Adjani), Nohra (Maïwenn) and Djamila (Rachida Brakni), each a very different woman in their personalities, living in a cosmopolitan Paris. Zorah, a bohemian playwright and eldest of the trio, has a relaxed attitude to life until it comes to her work. Deciding to engage in a new play Zorah tells the story of her family struggles growing up at the hands of a violent and controlling Father becomes the root of further tensions between her mother and sisters. Djamila, being a prominent politician working for the voices of the Algerian and Muslim communities, does not want to air the family’s dirty laundry in public.

Played respectively by the legendary Isabelle Adjani (who is inexplicably wooden here), Maïwenn and Rachida Brakni, three actors who are aptly of Algerian background or descent, the trio pursue their lives as contemporary, independent women in Paris, following their own voices in their chosen fields. A mother and the oldest sister, Zorah is artistic and bohemian, different with her free spirit from the straitlaced Djamila, a vocal politician we often see defending the rights of Muslims in France. Nohra, on the other hand, seems to be the most unruly persona of the bunch, struggling to hold on to any employment longer than a few weeks and suffering a mental condition the film teases yet conceals until the final act.

Madrid — 2bOriginals, the newly created production arm of 2b, a leading digital media group with offices in Spain, Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia and the U.S., is teaming with top Dutch production company NewBe to produce hit film franchise ‘Misfit’ for Spanish-speaking markets.

The remake forms part of a deal which sees 2bOriginals acquiring the rights to develop “Misfit” in different territories.

First up is a version for Latin America, produced by 2bOriginals subsidiary Touché Films, the company behind Enchufe.tv comedy channel, a runaway success in Mexico and Ecuador, and hit 2019 feature film “Dedicada a Mi Ex.”

The alliance marks a meeting of like minds. Distinguished by its appeal to young Spanish-speaking audiences in a digital environment – its 20 YouTube channels have some 40 million-50 million subscribers – 2b is fast leveraging that reach into the creation of teen content for theatrical, platforms and beyond.
