Steve Gerben Talks ‘Tires’ Impact on Dad’s Shop, John McKeever Explains That Whole “McKeever” Thing
Image
Tires season two rolled out on Netflix today, Thursday, June 5. Riding shotgun in the Shane Gillis-vehicle are his friends and creative partners for a decade, co-star/writer Steve Gerben and writer/director John McKeever. (For the sake of the analogy, picture a 1970s Chevy Bel Air front bench seat.)

Well, really, it is McKeever (who professionally goes by just “McKeever”) steering the car with Gerben navigating — or vice versa. The 6’3” Gillis is stretched out in the backseat — that’s where the celebrity goes — but he’s not merely along for the ride. We’ll stop forcing the metaphor immediately.

Gillis is a co-creator of the series and number one on its call sheet. He’s also the guy who paid out of pocket to build the Tires set.

Tires was originally shot as a 10-minute pilot for YouTube and sold as a series to Quibi. Unfortunately, Quibi lasted about...

Tires Season 2 Wants to Be The Office, But It’s More Like the Hr Violation Part That Got Cut
Image
Tires is Netflix’s answer to NBC’s all-time favorite sitcom, The Office. The show is a blue-collar workplace comedy, which is set in the Valley Forge Automotive Center, our Dunder Mifflin here. After the first season made an impression on a niche audience last year, Netflix renewed it for a second season, which is now available for streaming.

However, you should note that, unlike the Steve Carell-led show, this sitcom is not catered to an underage audience. The show has some far more vulgar jokes, and the characters don’t hesitate to use expletives. If you thought Michael Scott was an Hr nightmare, wait until you watch Tires Season 2.

Netflix doesn’t have a direction when it comes to a plot for its second season of Tires.

‘Tires’ Season Two Proves Shane Gillis Actually Cares
Image
The second season of Tires keeps returning to a low-level conflict between Shane (Shane Gillis) and his manager/cousin Will (Steve Gerben). As Will jockeys for position in the tire chain they both work for, he reminds Shane that if Will is able to move up to general manager, their location will need to replace him. Will keeps trying to set Shane up to show he can do it: telling Shane he’s in charge when Will has to leave for a meeting; inviting him to participate in a training session by an outside Hr consultant. Shane spends most of the season refusing these opportunities, not wanting to get caught actually caring about, well, anything, but particularly not work. Based on the evidence on screen, however, Gillis has a lot more career ambition than his fictional avatar.

Tires, which Gillis co-created and self-funded before selling it to Netflix, is in...

Tires Season 2 Review — Flat and Unfunny
Image
Shane Gillis’s Tires continues to be disjointed and full of non-sequiturs, offering a poor imitation of the workplace comedy genre. From The Office, Parks and Recreation, Superstore, and even American Auto, the best workplace comedies use relatable environments to develop memorable characters and sharp writing that captures the mundane absurdities of modern work life.

This Netflix series consistently misses the mark in this regard — it’s too weird to be relatable and so far off the rails that it strains workplace credibility. Still, this is a comedy, and it should ultimately be judged by one question: does it make you laugh?

Unfortunately, the simple answer is no — Tires isn’t that funny.

Late Night with Seth Meyers update after two-week hiatus
Image
Late Night with Seth Meyers has had an extended absence from the air. The NBC show enters the new week following a two-week hiatus. So what should fans expect to see tonight?

Seth Meyers and his team took some extra time to rest and recharge over the past two weeks. While other late-night shows used Memorial Day to get a week away, Late Night was already dark the week prior.

The good news is that things are back to regularly scheduled programming on Monday. There will be a brand-new episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers tonight.

It wll be interesting to see if Meyers chooses to play catch-up from the past two weeks or just focuses on more recent headlines. President Donald Trump's tariff changes with China, Elon Musk's departure from the administration, and a lot more happened while Meyers was away. It's hard to imagine he'd...

Tires Season 2: Cast, Story, Trailer & Everything We Know
Image
The Netflix original sitcom Tires was renewed for a second season before season 1 even debuted, and there are already exciting updates about season 2. Created by stand up comedian Shane Gillis alongside John McKeever and Steve Gerben, Tires follows Will (Gerben) who inherits his father's struggling auto-repair business called Valley Forge Auto. While trying to put the company back on the right track, he is constantly hounded by his cousin Shane (Gillis) who makes it his life's mission to undermine Will's efforts to fix the business.

The six-episode first season of Tires wasn't particularly well-received by critics, and many noted it was hardly the most original comedy to grace the streaming airwaves (via Rotten Tomatoes). However, the premiere season was an immediate success for Netflix when it came to viewership, validating the streamer's decision to green light the show for season 2 before season 1 debuted. Shane Gillis’ ‘Tires’ Ineligible For Golden Globes Nominations Due To Run Length
Image
Exclusive: Shane Gillis will, unfortunately, not be winning a Golden Globe for his comedy series Tires after the organizers declared it too short for eligibility.

The Globes, via accountancy firm, sent a note out to members noting that Tires “does not meet the 150-minute requirement” for consideration for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.

The six-part series has a total run time of 132 minutes, which is below the threshold that was introduced nearly a decade ago.

“A recurring series with a total running time of at least 150 program minutes aired during the qualifying year,” it states in its rules.

Filippo Puglisi-Alibrandi, a partner at Kpmg, told members, “Please be advised that Tires is no longer eligible for consideration for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy as it does not meet the 150-minute requirement. This also means Shane Gillis is not eligible for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy.

Bud Light Shoots A Commercial With Shane Gillis to Try to Bring Back Football Fans
Image
Over a year after a right-wing cancel crusade decimated Bud Light’s popularity among both bros and dudes, Shane Gillis is here to repair the light beer brand’s relationship with guys who watch football, punch drywall and call everything “gay.”

In April 2023, transgender comedian Dylan Mulvaney appeared in a brief Instagram video promoting Bud Light while holding a personalized beer can in advance of the upcoming NCAA March Madness basketball tournament. Almost overnight, both Mulvaney and Bud Light became the largest-ever targets of conservative, anti-trans hatred as bomb threats shut down Anheuser-Busch factories, stalkers harassed the content creator and Kid Rock sprayed bullets from his submachine gun in the general direction of some Bud Light cans. Within weeks, the beer brand walked back the campaign and severed ties with Mulvaney, leaving her to her death threats while Bud Light sales hit rock bottom.

Almost a year and a half later,...

‘Bridgerton’ Stays Strong Atop Nielsen Streaming Charts As Shane Gillis Comedy ‘Tires’ Makes No. 5 On Originals List
Image
Bridgerton once again eclipsed 2B minutes viewed in the week after the first four episodes of Season 3 hit Netflix.

The Shonda Rhimes series was easily the most-streamed title from May 20 to 26, Nielsen reports. Viewing did drop off compared to Season 3’s premiere weekend, though that’s to be expected since there were only four new episodes available and, while some viewers revisit older episodes when new seasons launch, most of the viewership surge is likely driven by the new episodes.

Nielsen also pointed out that Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story saw an uptick in viewership around this time. During this interval, it just missed the Originals list with 215M minutes viewed, but that’s essentially quadruple the viewership it received even two weeks prior. This suggests that new episodes of Bridgerton did drive audiences to continue engaging with the franchise while waiting for the second half of Season 3.

Tires (2024) Season 1 Review — Shane Gillis Stars in a Grating and Unfunny Comedy
Image
The new Netflix streaming comedy Tires is in the vein of single-camera sitcoms from Greg Daniels or Michael Schur. Yet, Tires is far from being on par with The Office or Parks and Recreation. In fact, this will probably be the first and last time the new Shane Gillis comedy is mentioned in the same breath as those classic sitcoms.

That’s because Tires is a poor imitation of those workplace comedies. At its worst, the new sitcom can be tedious, grating, and painfully unfunny. At its best, the series is something you have on in the background—a harmless, politically incorrect excursion. Yes, the jokes are on the hapless and clueless characters. However, that doesn’t make it good or mean its heart is in the right place.

Netflix has high hopes for a new comedy series that's imminently set to debut on the streaming platform. Ahead of its release, the show has already scored a renewal order for a second season.

On May 21, Netflix announced that Tires has been renewed for Season 2. The news comes two days ahead of the show's debut on May 23. The decision to give the show an early renewal may be due to the popularity of comedian Shane Gillis, who plays one of the main characters.
