Like any long-running reality TV show, Dancing With the Stars has had its fair share of controversy. The 2024 Variety Power of Young Hollywood Party was filled with so many major stars and emerging talent, including honorees Sabrina Carpenter, Marcello Hernández and Sadie Sink.

The young stars posed with their awards at the event held at Santa Monica Proper Hotel on Thursday (August 8) in Santa Monica, Calif.

The three were featured on separate Variety Power of Young Hollywood covers, as the mag recognizes the annual Young Hollywood Impact list, profiling the top young actors, musicians and creators in the industry.

Latency star Alexis Ren knows full well the perception that comes with a social media star making the jump to acting. It provokes the same skeptics that countless athletes, musicians and professional wrestlers had to endure when they first embarked on their own film and television careers in decades past. But, by keeping an open mind, we now have a long list of crossover performers that we’ll forever embrace on the big and small screen. As the world of virtual reality and artificial intelligence technology grows and becomes more immersive, it's frequently found itself at the center of many sci-fi stories. Whether it be the blockbuster escape of Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One or the more thought-provoking episodes of Black Mirror, VR and AI can be utilized for a variety of themes and storytelling. With James Croke's Latency, not only is the exact meaning of the film a mystery, but the lack of thrills is just as baffling.

Ren is best known for her breakout performance opposite Antonio Banderas in the 2022 crime thriller The Enforcer, in addition to having a vast online presence. Earlier this year, Deadline reported that Ren has signed on to star in Latency, a gamer action thriller written and directed by James Croke. Ren will join Russian model and actor Sasha Luss in the flick, which follows Hana, a professional gamer who suffers from acute agoraphobia. When Hana receives a new game controller that works by interpreting her brain activity, with the help of her best friend Jen, she experiments with this new device only to soon discover the device may, in fact, be controlling her.

Not to be confused with the Clint Eastwood Enforcer (1976) or the Humphrey Bogart Enforcer (1951), this cheap and cheerful crime thriller stars Antonio Banderas as a strong-arm man who turns against his employers. As such, it’s entirely watchable and made with a degree of style, but it’s also predictably generic and occasionally laughable in its simplicity.

The Enforcer opens with one of those prologue sequences that immediately gives away the ending, as Banderas’ Cuda (short for Barracuda) reflects on what brought him to his current blood-soaked state. The rest of the story is then told in flashback, with Cuda taking new enforcer Stray under his wing, while working for slinky Miami mob boss Estelle.

The film is set to begin production November 21 in Bangkok, Thailand, with international sales handled by Red Sea Media at the upcoming American Film Market.

The flick follows Hana, a professional gamer who suffers from acute agoraphobia. When Hana receives a new device to enhance her game by interpreting her brain activity, she begins to wonder if the device is reading her mind or now actually controlling it. Alexis Ren is also set to star.

“I was just like, ‘Pinch me!’ all day,” Ren said. “Antonio is wonderful and watching him and my other cast mate, Mojean [Aria], who’s my love interest in the film … watching them rehearse was like watching a master class. They would just get into it with each other and I was a sponge. I made it my priority to be a sponge because I am and I was the newbie on that set. I was just kind of like, ‘No ego here! I don’t know what I’m doing!

A noir thriller set in Miami, the film follows an enforcer who discovers his femme fatale boss has branched out into cyber sex trafficking, putting a young runaway he’s befriended at risk. He sacrifices everything to save the young girl from the deadly organization he’s spent his life building.

Directed by Richard Hughes (Found) and written by W. Peter Iliff (Point Break), the film is produced by Rob Van Norden, Yariv Lerner, Jeffrey Greenstein, Jonathan Yunger and Les Weldon of Millennium Media and Natalie Burn of Born to Burn Films. Despite all the rampant rumors and speculation over their dating status during “Dancing with the Stars” last season, Alan Bersten says he and Hannah Brown never let any of it affect them.

“We shut it all out,” Bersten told “Us Weekly,” adding that it never bothered them when everyone was wondering if they were dating, mostly because they knew it was coming.
