Jay was getting ready for bed after watching the Super Bowl when he received a call from an Atlanta agent. She was referred to him by her godson, who was also a classmate of Jay's. At first, he told her he was too busy getting ready for baseball at Woodward Academy to be in a movie. The next day he called her back. With no professional acting experience, Jay auditioned and won the role of Rigo Sanchez.
