Dakota Johnson has not always been given the most glowing reviews for some of her movies, with her big break in Fifty Shades of Grey and its sequels being slammed on its debut, and Madame Web proving that, even all these years later, the actress is still on the receiving end of some harsh criticism. Her latest role in Daddio is one that allows little room to hide, as the movie plays out mostly as a two-hander between Johnsons character, Girlie, and Sean Penns taxi driver, Clark. This time around, it seems that Johnson is hitting the mark by returning to a more stripped-back performance.

Which can best be described as an artsy and well-acted version of HBO's lurid Taxicab Confessions, where passengers got down and dirty revealing all to an inquisitive stranger. Stars Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn are magnetic in a near two-hour conversation that pretty much takes place in real time. What begins as idle chatter takes a remarkably personal turn when closet secrets are released. The tantalizing bits go overboard and are somewhat contrived but accomplish their salacious goals.

Director Christy Hall welcomed Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn for her upcoming indie drama, Daddio. The movie will mark the feature directorial debut for Hall, who has also penned Daddio.
