Do you think there might exist a time when every single Stephen King novel or short story has been adapted for the stage or screen? It sure seems like it, not that I'm complaining! Deadline Hollywood recently revealed that another adaptation is in development, this one based on King's "Autopsy Room Four," a short work included in his Everything's Eventual collection.

According to the outlet, Autopsy Room Four will be directed by up-and-coming British filmmaker Ranjeet S. Marwa, whose previous short film, The Man Who Loved Flowers, was inspired by some of King's works. He also directed Spring Lakes and Dig Me No Grave, both of which have been picked up by distributors.

"Autopsy Room Four" was initially published in one of King's limited-edition collections in the late 1990s before being added to Robert Bloch's Psychos anthology. Then, in 2002, it was published as part of Everything's Eventual.

Per Deadline, another one of King's works will be adapted into a feature film: his 1997 short story Autopsy Room Four. That book was limited to just 1100 copies, but thankfully King ended up putting all six of the stories into different collections over the years. A new feature film inspired by the works of prolific horror author Stephen King is on the way. Deadline reports today that King’s short story Autopsy Room Four is getting adapted by British director Ranjeet S. Marwa and veteran Hollywood exec Jon Levin (In the Tall Grass).

King himself has given the greenlight on the project, which will be written and directed by Marwa.

Autopsy Room Four will “delve into the mind of a man who, after a life-threatening accident, wakes up to find himself trapped in an autopsy room. As he confronts his own mortality, the story navigates themes of fear, survival, and the unknown.”

The short story itself was initially published in King’s Six Stories in 1997 and appeared in the anthology Robert Bloch’s Psychos later that year. In 2002, it was collected in King’s collection Everything’s Eventual.

Notably, this isn’t the first time the short story was adapated.

Film and media company Buffalo 8 has acquired worldwide distribution rights to “Dig Me No Grave” from Djonny Chen’s prolific U.K.-based outfit Silent D Pictures. The deal was revealed at the Berlin European Film Market (EFM).

“Dig Me No Grave” follows the harrowing journey of an ageing hunter who embarks on a final quest for an elusive elk. His seemingly routine expedition takes a nightmarish turn when he becomes ensnared beneath the immense weight of a bear. Days of desperate survival ensue until a mysterious stranger rescues him, leading to intense events in the unforgiving wilderness.
