John Boyega Reveals the Finn & Rey Arc He Expected in Star Wars Sequel Trilogy
Image
John Boyega has previously described how disappointed he was with Finn's arc in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Now, Boyega has spoken about where he expected Finn's storyline to go in the sequels.

Appearing at Fan Expo Boston, via Screen Rant, he explained he expected Finn and Rey to end up enemies eventually like Obi-Wan and Anakin, saying, “I think I assumed [Finn] was Force-sensitive from The Force Awakens script or at least by the time I got to the end of The Force Awakens script. I thought they were planning dual Jedis. I actually thought that they would Obi-Wan and Darth Vader us a bit. That we would turn against each other or something along those lines."

Finn ended up having storylines that took him away from Rey, while Rey trained with Luke Skywalker and ended up battling Palpatine. The final movie of the sequel trilogy, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,...

John Boyega Assumed Finn Would Become a Jedi in ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy and Rey Would ‘Turn Against’ Him Like ‘Obi-Wan and Darth Vader’
Image
John Boyega had a different expectation for his “Star Wars” arc than what made it on the big screen.

During an appearance at Fan Expo Boston (via Screen Rant), Boyega, who played Stormtrooper turned Rebel soldier Finn in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy, said he expected his character to become a Jedi alongside Rey after “The Force Awakens.” He also thought they were destined to become enemies after they both mastered the Force.

“I think I assumed he was Force-sensitive from ‘The Force Awakens’ script or at least by the time I got to the end of ‘The Force Awakens’ script,” he said. “I thought they were planning dual Jedis. I actually thought that they would Obi-Wan and Darth Vader us a bit. That we would turn against each other or something along those lines.”

Since the debut of his trilogy’s final installment, 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker,” Boyega...

From Headphones to Hits: 13 Fiction Podcasts That Need to Be Adapted to the Small Screen
Image
It’s no secret that we’re living in the era of streaming saturation and IP gold rushes to the point of fatigue.

Ironically, the most overlooked goldmine television has barely tapped into is what flows directly to our ears: fiction podcasts!

As one of a handful of things that carried me through the pandemic, I can attest to how audio dramas have been quietly and carefully crafting deeply cinematic, emotionally charged, and narratively daring stories for years.

(Colin Bentley/The CW)

Shockingly, only a few have leaped to television. Homecoming, Limetown, and Archive 81 are among the most notable.

But there are so many that still lie in wait for someone to pluck them up, negotiate accordingly, and bring them from our headphones to our small screens.

Three Years Later, Star Wars' Young Princess Leia Opens Up About The Pressures Of Appealing To The Fanbase
Image
Obi-Wan Kenobi star Vivien Lyra Blair has opened up about what it was like for her to step into such a massive franchise and protect Carrie Fisher’s and Princess LeiaOrgana’s beloved Star Wars legacies. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series may have first and foremost been about Obi-Wan’s hardships in exile, but it also introduced us to a version of Princess Leia we’d never seen before.

While Carrie Fisher’s Leia was just 19 years old in the retitled A New Hope, Vivien Lyra Blair’s version of the character was only 10 years old, a mischievous, wise-cracking, hopeful, and kind young Princess on the cusp of becoming one of the Rebellion’s greatest leaders.

Blair had a difficult balance to strike. How do you show people a new version of such an iconic character while honoring the late Carrie Fisher’s legacy and pleasing Star Wars' notoriously difficult-to-please fanbase?...

Marriage of Inconvenience: On “The Wedding Banquet” and Green-Card Comedies
Image
The Wedding Banquet. Ang Lee’s The Wedding Banquet (1993) begins at a gym in New York, where Wai-Tung Gao (Winston Chao) labors over a leg press and a loaded barbell, listening to a recorded message from his mother in Taiwan. She’s sent a cassette in lieu of a letter, she explains, because menopause-related pain prevents her from holding a pen; meanwhile, his father has just retired and is struggling in a different way as he transitions to life at home. “Maybe it’s because I’m getting old, and he’s getting older,” she continues, “and you’re not getting any younger yourself. When will you marry?” Wai-Tung, who isn’t yet out to his parents, returns home to his boyfriend, Simon (Mitchell Litchtenstein), and relays the rest of his mother’s message with chagrin: She’s enrolled him in a singles club which will set him up—with women.

Andrew Ahn is nearing the end of the promotional road for his latest film The Wedding Banquet.

The hectic months-long swirl started with the world premiere in January at the Sundance Film Festival, and continued with showings at London’s BFI Flare Lgbtqia+ Film Festival, the Sonoma International Film Festival, a couple of Midwest fests (Minneapolis St. Paul and Wisconsin), the Miami Film Festival and a series of special spotlights and panel discussions at the Tribeca Festival in New York and Film Independent in Los Angeles. There was even a drag brunch and Gold House special event along the way.

Why Oscar-Winner Mikey Madison Turned Down Ryan Gosling's Star Wars Movie
Image
In April of 2025, /Film reported that director Shawn Levy, the Hollywood journeyman behind "Big Fat Liar," "The Pink Panther," "Real Steel," and "Deadpool & Wolverine," will be overseeing a brand new "Star Wars" film called "Star Wars: Starfighter." Little is known about the project at this juncture, other than it will star Ryan Gosling as a heretofore unknown character, and that it will be set after the events of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker." The vast bulk of the "Star Wars" projects made by Disney since its acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012 have been flashbacks, prequels, or interquels, so "Starfighter" will be the first "Star Wars" film since 2019 to push the timeline forward.

Mikey Madison, the Academy Award-winning star of Sean Baker's "Anora," was reportedly approached to play a role in "Starfighter" as well. Evidently, she was being tapped to play the film's central villainess. Madison was a rising...

An Upcoming Star Wars Book Can Begin The Redemption Of The Sequel Trilogy Era
Image
Nearly six years following the release of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," Lucasfilm has mostly avoided exploring the polarizing Sequel Trilogy era. Every possible discussion — both healthy and unhealthy — regarding the pros and cons of J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson's contributions to the Skywalker Saga remains some of the more exhausting discourses within geek culture, and to re-litigate these debates would be beating a dead tauntaun. However, the aspect of the Sequel Trilogy that fans can agree upon is that Finn (John Boyega) was wasted.

Following his phenomenal introduction in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" as the male lead hero, Finn's storyline was subject to a bad game of telephone between Rian Johnson and J.J. Abrams, both of whom had differing visions for where the character's development should go. John Boyega has been vocal about his frustration regarding Finn's diminishing character trajectory, and what is particularly ironic...

Forge Review: Sibling Bonds Under Neon Skies
Jing Ai Ng
Under the neon glare of Miami’s art world—and beneath its opulence—Forge invites viewers into the intricate dance of deception. Jing Ai Ng’s first feature, unveiled at the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival, traces the daring path of Coco and Raymond Zhang, Chinese American siblings whose exquisite forgeries bankroll a precarious existence. When trust‑fund heir Holden Beaumont recruits them for a monumental scam, their calculated precision collides with the determined pursuit of FBI agent Emily Lee.

Shot by Leo Purman, Miami emerges as both sun‑drenched paradise and shadowy underbelly, its vibrant palettes and looming decay echoing traditions of Indian parallel cinema that merge realism with symbolic weight. As Forge unfolds, it channels the moral complexity of Bollywood capers—where family loyalty and personal ambition tangle in equal measure—and raises questions of belonging, artifice and self‑definition in a globalized age. This section will explore how...

‘The Jennifer Hudson Show’ Hits 500 Episodes: Secrets of the “Spirit Tunnel” Revealed
Image
Within minutes of stepping onto the Warner Bros. lot of The Jennifer Hudson show, this THR reporter stumbles upon an impromptu rehearsal in a hallway that’s instantly recognizable from social media. “Do you want to watch the spirit tunnel?” asks a staffer. That would be a resounding yes for witnessing in person the now-not-so-secret weapon behind the success and longevity of the show: Instead of walk-on music, guests are greeted with a sing-on of a surprise tune performed by the staff, who create a Soul Train-style runway, or “spirit tunnel,” for guests to walk through.

The guests for the pretaped episode are Bowen Yang, Lily Gladstone, Kelly Marie Tran and Han Gi-Chan, and the daytime talk show’s staff has remixed the lyrics of Jagged Edge’s “Let’s Get Married” to incorporate the title of their new rom-com, The Wedding Banquet. As this reporter narrowly escapes being caught...

David Oyelowo Questions Disney's Intentions With 'The Rocketeer' Reboot
Image
Actor and producer David Oyelowo reveals what happened with his planned reboot of The Rocketeer, and it certainly doesn't look good for Disney. The Rocketeer was created in 1982 as a throwback to old pulp heroes of the 1940s in a property that seemed tailor-made for film. Disney quickly purchased the rights and released the feature film adaptation in 1991. Despite having a cult fanbase, the movie was a box office disappointment. Fans were given hope when Oyelowo, the actor best known for his work in Selma and Government Cheese, signed on in 2021 to star and produce a sequel/reboot titled Return of the Rocketeer. Despite Disney seemingly being enthusiastic about the property just four years ago, no news has come out, and it appears the studio might have made the announcement more for optics.

Speaking with The Los Angeles Times, Oyelowo reveals that the struggles include his reboot of The Rocketeer...

Kelly Marie Tran Reveals How She Coped With Star Wars Toxicity
Image
When Kelly Marie Tran was cast as Rose Tico in 2017's Star Wars: The Last Jedi, she was thrilled to be the first Asian woman to have a starring role in the franchise. But then it all went wrong due to some toxic fans.

Tran was subjected to racist and sexist hate online, with trolls piling on her for her appearance and her character's actions. Speaking to Business Insider, the actor said that she went to therapy to deal with the bullying. "I still hold that experience with such fondness in my heart because there was so much creativity, professionalism, and artistry on those sets," Tran said. "It allowed me into these audition rooms I never would've been in a million years if I hadn't done that job."

According to Tran, the experience of being trolled and bullied set her down "the scary path of figuring out how to heal.

‘Sinners’ achieved something no other horror film has done while toppling ‘Minecraft’ and winning box office
Image
Update April 20, 2025: There’s a new box-office champion for the April 18-20 weekend. Ryan Coogler's Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan, dominated the competition with a $45.6 million debut, securing the top spot. The vampire film not only exceeded projections but achieved something no other horror film has done before. As noted by Deadline, Sinners received an A grade from CinemaScore, the first time in the tracking firm's nearly 50-year history that a horror film has earned that rating from exit audiences. Lauded film and genre classics like A Quiet Place, The Lost Boys, and The Conjuring all managed A-minus scores. Not even the Oscar-winning Get Out could get higher than that. But Sinners, one of the best-reviewed films of the year and already drawing Oscar buzz, managed to make the grade, notching a new milestone.

Meanwhile, A Minecraft Movie — widely expected to win its third consecutive weekend — settled for second place with $41.3 million.

Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy Sequel Confirmed For Fall Release
Image
Get ready to revisit the Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxyuniverse with some brand new and old, but different-looking, faces.

Per StarWars.com, an official sequel series, Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past, was announced at Star Wars Celebration Japan, continuing Sig Greebling and Jedi Bob's adventures in a world where the franchise's heroes and villains have flipped roles. New characters were confirmed via an official poster, partnering Sig with a massive Lego Chewbacca, a BrickHeadz-style Ahsoka Tano, and, most notably, EU comic-era Lepi smuggler Jaxxon. Though he's since been added to the Disney-era Star Wars timeline, this will be Jaxxon's first adaptation appearance outside the comics, with Ben Schwartz providing his voice.

Additionally, Star Wars: The Clone Wars' Ashley Eckstein confirmed that she will return to voice BrickHeadz Ahsoka, calling this new take on her character "such a good representation of Ahsoka. Last time I was on this stage,...

Box Office: ‘Sinners’ Stokes $19.2 Million Opening Day, ‘A Minecraft Movie’ Still Looks to Block Off No. 1 in Third Weekend
Image
It’s a Warner Bros. weekend at the box office, with the studio taking the top two slots on domestic charts. Ryan Coogler’s vampire thriller “Sinners” seems to be coming short of the firepower needed to knock off the megasmash “A Minecraft Movie” for first place. But “Sinners” still launched with a solid $19.2 million gross across Friday and preview screenings, playing 3,308 venues. That puts it on pace to beat out Warner’s own projections for a three-day opening of $40 million.

“Sinners” also gets a boost from luxury ticket prices for Imax, including 70mm showtimes. Warner Bros.’ marketing campaign has heavily emphasized the premium format and the production’s employment of Imax cameras on-set — a technical flourish that’s largely been associated with the films of Christopher Nolan in recent years. As “Oppenheimer” showed terrific holds, with audiences waiting for the chance to see the film in Imax, “Sinners” could...

'Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy' Puts Ashley Eckstein and Ben Schwartz Together in 'Pieces of the Past'
Image
The animated Lego Star Wars series, Rebuild the Galaxy, is adding another two key pieces. At Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Japan, today, Lucasfilm announced that a new special is on its way: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past. The cast for that special will include an important part of Star Wars animation history, and a deep cut from the long history of Star Wars comic books. Ashley Eckstein will reprise her animated role of Ahsoka Tano (in Lego BrickHeadz form), and Ben Schwartz is expected to play the rascally alien rabbit Jaxxon.

The special will continue the story of the Rebuild the Galaxy miniseries, which centered around two nerf-herding brothers, Sig (Gaten Matarazzo) and Dev Greebling (Tony Revolori) who find an ancient artifact, the Cornerstone. Sig gets hurled into a Bizarro World version of the Star Wars universe, where Tattooine is a water world, Jar Jar Binks (Ahmed Best...

Bowen Yang Talks Baring It All in New Movie 'The Wedding Banquet'
Image
Bowen Yang is opening up about baring it all on screen.

The Saturday Night Live actor stars in the new movie The Wedding Banquet, which is a remake of the 1993 Chinese film of the same name in which two queer couples who are friends help each other out with family, while navigating cultural expectations and more.

In one scene in the movie, which was directed and co-written by Andrew Ahn, Bowen flashes his bare butt while jumping out of bed.

Keep reading to find out more…“It was something that for anyone other than Andrew Ahn, I would’ve been like, ‘Let’s talk about coverage,’ and ‘I’m not going to show nip,’ and ‘I’m not going to show butt,’” Bowen told Entertainment Weekly about the scene.

“I would’ve gotten really granular about that,” he continued. “But there was just something about playing the comedy of that scene,...

‘The Wedding Banquet’ Director Andew Ahn On Leaning Into “Optimism And Joy” In New Reimagining
Image
Andrew Ahn’s The Wedding Banquet, based on Ang Lee’s 1993 film of the same name, follows a group of four thirty-somethings dabbling in various hijinks and going through tribulations as it pertains to their queer sexualities.

Set in Seattle, one couple, Lee (Lily Gladstone) and Angela (Kelly Marie Tran), run into some monetary hardships while trying to conceive via IVF treatments. The other couple, and best friends of Lee and Angela, Chris (Bowen Yang) and Min (Han Gi-chan), face a relationship crossroads when Min, facing the soon-to-be expiration of his South Korean visa, is pressured by his business-oriented grandmother (Youn Yuh-jung) to return and run the company. Min’s desire to stay and be with Chris is further jeopardized by the fact that he still hasn’t managed to come out to his grandmother out of fear she will cut him off if he does. So Min, utilizing the potential of his wealthy family,...

Joan Chen and Youn Yuh-jung on Meeting for the First Time Filming ‘The Wedding Banquet’ and Wanting to Collaborate Again: ‘But We Better Hurry’
Image
Upon the release of Michael Mann’s film “Heat” in 1995, cinephiles rejoiced at watching acting legends Robert De Niro and Al Pacino share the screen together for the first time. One can’t help but get that same feeling when seeing legends Youn Yuh-jung and Joan Chen share the screen as their characters bond over a dinner table in “The Wedding Banquet.”

Youn is the legendary South Korean actor whose first American film, “Minari,” landed her an Academy Award for supporting actress. Chen is the Chinese-American actor and director who achieved superstardom in China before starring in 1987’s “The Last Emperor,” which won nine Academy Awards. Since then, she has maintained a busy career not only in Hollywood, but internationally.

In “The Wedding Banquet,” the two are presented as very different parental figures. Youn is the grandmother of Min (played by newcomer Han Gi-Chan), a gay man in love with...

Fire Island (2022)
Roundtable with The Cast Behind The Wedding Banquet (2025) by Andrew Ahn
Fire Island (2022)
“Fire Island” director Andrew Ahn releases his first foray into writing-directing with “The Wedding Banquet,” which premiered at Sundance earlier this year. The film is co-written with James Schamus, who also worked on Ang Lee‘s original 1993 romantic comedy of the same name. While Lee’s remake featured a green card marriage between a wealthy gay man and his tenant to maintain his New York lifestyle and heteronormative image to his Taiwanese parents, Ahn’s “The Wedding Banquet,” this time, takes place on the opposite coast, and adds a Korean American twist.

“The Wedding Banquet” opens in Seattle and immediately pulls out all the stops. Second-generation Chinese American, Angela (Kelly Marie Tran) is happily partnered to Lee (Lily Gladstone), a vocal LGBTQ+-activist. She is only surrounded by friends and family who love her, and seem to have her best interests at heart. Her best friend, queer studies Ph.D.

Interview with Andrew Ahn: I Wanted To Make This Film As A Way To Throw Myself My Own Korean Wedding, And Queer It In Some Way.
Image
Andrew Ahn has skyrocketed to fame in the last fifteen years. Since the premiere of his short, “Andy” in 2011 San Diego Asian Film Festival, he has appeared again and again as an indie darling on the film festival circuit – including Sundance-premiering independent feature “Spa Night” (2016), Berlin-premiering drama, “Driveways” (2019), gay Hulu romcom “Fire Island” (2022), and now, “The Wedding Banquet.” Ahn’s latest feature is a remake of Ang Lee‘s 1993 romantic comedy, though with a Korean American twist. It’s similarly packed with a star power akin to Ahn’s own: the cast is packed with other major stars, like Bowen Yang, Kelly Marie Tran, Lily Gladstone, and Korean acting legend Youn Yuh-jung.

We had the opportunity to talk to Andrew Ahn over Zoom on the occasion of the film’s theatrical release this Friday. We talked about the nuances of trans-Pacific legacies with Ang Lee and Youn Yuh-jung, and the...

Andrew Ahn on Adapting Ang Lee’s ‘The Wedding Banquet’ for 2025: ‘What If the Bride Was Also Queer and Had a Queer Partner?’
Image
“Queer theory takes the joy out of being gay!” blurts Bowen Yang’s character Chris in one of several laugh-out-loud yet emotional moments in “The Wedding Banquet,” Korean American filmmaker Andrew Ahn’s fourth feature in just nine years. It’s a “reimagining” rather than a remake of Ang Lee’s beloved 1993 Asian American rom-com classic of the same name.

Chris, who has put his PhD on hold, passes his days as a birder. When his amiable, handsome Korean Mfa art student boyfriend Min (Han Gi-Chan) — in dire need of a green card to avoid being shuttled back to Korea and take rein of a chaebol managed by his astute grandmother played by Yuh-Jung Youn — proposes, Chris, though quite in love with Min, is petrified of committing. How can he, if he can’t commit to even a PhD? As his cousin (Bobo Le) sharply observes, Chris is merely interested...

On-Air Film Review: Here Comes the ??? In ‘The Wedding Banquet’
Image
Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com appears on “The Morning Mess” with Scott Thompson for Wbgr-fm on April 17th, 2025, reviewing the new film “The Wedding Banquet,” a remake of a classic film from Ang Lee, from director Andrew Ahn. In theaters April 18th.

Han Gi-chan is Min, a South Korean expatriate living in the U.S. with his lover of five years Chris (Bowen Yang). His family is wealthy, including the grandmother Ja-Young who raised Min and expects him now to get married. On the other same-sex side is Lee (Lily Gladstone) and Angela (Kelly Marie Tran) who are trying to have a child through in-vitro, but it’s not working, even as Angela’s mother May (Joan Chen), is a complete and proud supporter. Both relationships are on the edge as Chris is commitment-phobic and Angela is not sure of the baby thing. It will be up to the grannies to make it right,...

The Wedding Banquet Review: Andrew Ahn Crafts an Endearing, Funny Remake
Image
Remaking a film on the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry is hardly a task that one should take lightly. Ang Lee’s The Wedding Banquet dials up the pressure by adding a Golden Bear victory and Oscar nomination to its mantle. That much acclaim puts a ton of expectation upon the shoulders of whoever would choose to take the leap and bring its romantic comedy 30 years forward into the present. By all accounts, however, Andrew Ahn embraced that weight, enlisting the help of original co-writer James Schamus to perfectly execute the challenge by doubling the number of gay couples within its marital shenanigans and adding a baby for good measure.

Gone are the dating service paid for by the parents of a son who has yet to come out to them as gay and the penniless tenant in need of a green card coaxed to marry him so they go away.

Kelly Marie Tran in The Wedding Banquet (2025)
The Wedding Banquet (2025) Movie Review: A Respectable Remake for the Modern Moment
Kelly Marie Tran in The Wedding Banquet (2025)
“The Wedding Banquet” may not be the first—or second, or fifth—Ang Lee film that comes to mind upon mention of the Taiwanese legend’s name, but it’s certainly a significant one in his artistic journey. It was Lee’s first Oscar-nominated film, the first of two Lee films to win the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, and also the first of his films to release theatrically in the United States.

This last point is pertinent because “The Wedding Banquet,” as the middle film in Lee’s “Father Knows Best” trilogy, is fundamentally tied to the cultural friction experienced by a Taiwanese-American reckoning with familial duty in a space that feels more like home than his homeland ever did. What may then seem sacrilegious—an American remake—is perhaps the ideal platform upon which to develop Lee’s blueprint for the modern day, if such a...

Star Wars Celebration Leak Reveals ‘Mandalorian and Grogu’ Trailer
Image
Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Japan just gave us a thrilling peek at what’s next for our favorite bounty hunter and his tiny green sidekick. A teaser trailer for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’, the upcoming film set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026, leaked online shortly after its exclusive debut at the event. I couldn’t wait to dive into the details of this exciting reveal.

The leaked footage, which surfaced on platforms like X, showcases Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, and his adopted apprentice, Grogu, in a brand-new adventure. This marks the first Star Wars theatrical release since ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ in 2019, making it a big deal for fans like me who’ve been craving more big-screen stories from this galaxy far, far away.

Directed by Jon Favreau, the creator of ‘The Mandalorian’ series, the film promises to bring the same heart and action that made the Disney+ show a hit.

Andrew Ahn Learned Star Lily Gladstone Was “A Real One” For Taking On ‘The Wedding Banquet’
Image
Six years after agreeing to bring a new version of Ang Lee’s landmark 1993 romantic comedy “The Wedding Banquet” to the screen, Andrew Ahn’s adaptation is ready for takeoff. A world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, this new “Wedding Banquet” is a decidedly contemporary tale that is just as poignant as the original was over three decades ago. And Ahn owes a lot of that big screen magic to an incredible cast including “Saturday Night Live” icon Bowen Yang, SAG Award winner Lily Gladstone, “Star Wars” stand out Kelly Marie Tran, South Korean heartthrob Han Gi-chan, and the legendary Joan Chen, and “Minari” Oscar-winner Youn Yuh-jung.

The Wedding Banquet (2025) – Review
Image
Well, here comes another film to reflect the season of love, Spring. We’re in a short “window” in which romance rules the multiplex just as the big noisy Summer blockbusters start to trickle in (hopefully the Minecraft chaos and calamity don’t spill into the other screens). Now last week we saw a “first date movie that was also a “thriller-diller” (Drop). And what follows the initial meeting, perhaps much later? The big nuptuals, natch’. As with the former flick, this one is a mix as it can be considered a comedy-drama, or “dramedy’, while also tossing in another element: it’s a remake. And you’re beginning to feel your age when you can recall going to that original film almost 32 years ago. Oh, and some more plot twists are tossed in to add more flavor and a bit of spice to The Wedding Banquet.

Now, the story...

"A Billionaire Chairwoman": Youn Yuh-Jung Teases Her 'Beef' Season 2 Role and Relationship With Song Kang-ho [Exclusive]
Image
Three months after star Carey Mulligan revealed that production had begun, cameras are still rolling on Season 2 of A24's dark comedy-drama Beef. With a whole new batch of big-name stars, anticipation is running high for what series creator Lee Sung Jin has in store after delivering an acclaimed initial run of episodes that took home eight Emmys in 2024. The shift to an anthology format means viewers will be presented with an entirely new story, dealing with a pair of couples jockeying for power in the elitist world of a Korean billionaire-owned country club instead of Steven Yeun and Ali Wong's rage-filled drivers. At the top of the pyramid will be Academy Award winner Youn Yuh-jung, who's ready to pull back the curtain just a bit on the status of the series and her upcoming role.

In an interview with Collider's Taylor Gates for The Wedding Banquet, the...

'I Was Already Being Ridiculed': Kelly Marie Tran Worried About Coming Out After Toxic Star Wars Fan Treatment
Image
Kelly Marie Tran is best known for her role as Rose Tico in Star Wars, but now she's branching out and taking on roles in smaller productions. Her latest film is The Wedding Banquet, a remake of an Ang Lee classic directed by Andrew Ahn.

It's a significant film for Tran because she came out while in the process of filming it. "I didn't really mean to come out initially," she told Entertainment Weekly. "Basically, this reporter from Vanity Fair, David Canfield, came to set when we were shooting the Korean wedding scene, and the first question he asked me was, 'What are you the most excited about in regards to this project?' And I said, 'I'm so excited to tell a queer story as a queer person.' And then I was like, wait, I don't know if I want that in there. I haven't thought about it.

‘The Wedding Banquet’ Review: Bowen Yang and Lily Gladstone Star in a Blandly Charming Ang Lee Remake
Image
Editor’s Note: This review was originally published during the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. Bleecker Street opens “The Wedding Banquet” in theaters Friday, April 18.

In an era when gay marriage is legal, same-sex parenting is commonplace and the decision to build a nuclear family is, for many millennials, complicated not by cultural, sexual or familial impediments but rather ethical and financial ones, it might seem like an odd choice to remake Ang Lee’s 1993 “The Wedding Banquet.” But while watching Andrew Ahn’s amiable dramedy, which expands on the original premise while maintaining its central themes of found family and tolerance, one rarely questions the story’s relevance. More vitally, it lacks panache.

The movie follows a lesbian couple and a gay couple sharing a split-level Seattle residence: Lee (Lily Gladstone) and Angela (Kelly Marie Tran) live in the upper house, while Chris (Bowen Yang) and Min (Han Gi-chan) reside in the converted garage.
