When Skydance officially became the powers-that-be at Paramount last Thursday, the new leadership absolutely wasted zero time in sending a clear message to Hollywood: the scaled-back Paramount of recent years is gone. Hours after the merger closed, co-chairs Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg made their first big move, snapping up the hot Timothée Chalamet–James Mangold package High Side in a pretty fierce bidding war, and that aggressive power play has set the tone for this new Paramount 2.0, which is determined to massively expand its theatrical slate as well as attempt to become the premium streaming brand in the world.
For Top Gun fans, that’s damn fine news. Tom Cruise’s return to the cockpit has been up in the air (get it?) since Top Gun: Maverick smashed box office records in 2022, becoming Paramount’s highest-grossing film of all time with $1.49 billion worldwide, and Cruise's highest-grossing movie ever.

If a movie is going to be mostly close-up reactions of its lead actor, then the actor needs to have an expressive face. Jake Gyllenhaal, who more than fits the bill, faced this challenge in the 2021 thriller "The Guilty," directed by Antoine Fuqua (who used unorthodox filming methods to shoot the movie during the pandemic) and scripted by "True Detective" creator Nic Pizzolatto.
In "The Guilty," Gyllenhaal plays Joe Baylor, a 911 dispatcher in Los Angeles. The film takes place almost entirely during one of his shifts. Joe (who has a haunted past) is pretty dispassionate about his job... at first. Then a woman named Emily (Riley Keough) calls him, claiming that she's being kidnapped. Trying to help her from a distance, Joe discovers the culprit is likely her abusive ex-husband Henry (Peter Sarsgaard), but gradually realizes his assumptions about the...

Neal McDonough, seen in Band of Brothers, Minority Report, and Western series such as Yellowstone and Tulsa King, has addressed his recent distancing from the industry. Despite some prominent roles in big productions from Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg, McDonough's career has taken a hit; today, he's mostly featured in smaller projects, but it isn't for lack of trying. The actor says that due to one of his contractual requests, "Hollywood turned on him." The specific request? If the script includes a moment of intimacy, he refuses to participate with anyone who isn't his wife.
McDonough was recently invited to Nothing Left Unsaid, the podcast hosted by Troy and Tim Green whose previous guests include industry figures like Nic Pizzolatto. McDonough talked about his career, his faith, and getting "blackballed" over the contraction stipulation mentioned above, saying, "It was very difficult, that's for sure, to go through what I went through.

Every comedian, at one point or another, tries their hand at drama. As much as everyone enjoys a good laugh, no one wants to be typecast in the same kinds of roles throughout their career. Sometimes, it works brilliantly. Take Robin Williams, for example -- he used his incredible gift for comedy to become a hugely popular star on both the big and small screens. Then he seamlessly transitioned to drama, appearing in films like "Good Morning, Vietnam," "Dead Poets Society," "Awakenings," and "The Fisher King," and later went above and beyond behind the scenes to win a well-deserved Oscar for "Good Will Hunting." While audiences always recognized him for his energetic stand-up routines and comedic performances in blockbusters like "Mrs. Doubtfire" and Disney's animated "Aladdin," he still managed to carve out a solid niche as a bankable dramatic star.

Matthew McConaughey is returning to the screen with a vengeance. The iconic actor took a six-year break from live-action roles, and now is back with the moving true story of a hero in “The Lost Bus.”
McConaughey stars as a wayward school bus driver who partners with a dedicated school teacher (America Ferrera) to save 22 children from a terrifying inferno. Yul Vazquez, Spencer Watson, and Ashlie Atkinson also star. The logline reads: “A determined father risks everything to rescue a teacher and her students from a raging wildfire.”
Oscar-nominated “United 93” director Paul Greengrass helms the film which is inspired by real events. Greengrass and Brad Ingelsby co-wrote the feature, based on the book “Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire” by Lizzie Johnson. Ingelsby, Jason Blum, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Gregory Goodman are producing the Apple Original Film, which the studio deemed a “white-knuckle ride through one of America’s deadliest wildfires.

Marvel Studios says it has settled on a path forward for Blade after what Kevin Feige calls “four different scripts and too many false starts.” The producer told fans the long-gestating reboot will now unfold in the present day, lean toward an R rating and keep Mahershala Ali in the title role he accepted six years ago.
Studio insiders put the working budget near $80 million—well below recent MCU tent-poles—in line with a corporate push to scale back costly expansions. Feige acknowledged that the project “was a casualty of quantity over quality,” adding that narrowing the scope has clarified its tone as a gritty vampire thriller rather than a sprawling crossover.
The road has been rocky. Original director Bassam Tariq exited weeks before cameras were to roll in 2022, citing creative differences. Successor Yann Demange departed amicably last summer after the film cycled through writers Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury, Nic Pizzolatto...

Love Dexter: Resurrection? Then Watch This Higher-Rated Serial Killer Drama! (Photo Credit –Facebook)
Michael C. Hall returned as the iconic serial killer in the new sequel, Dexter: Resurrection, which recently premiered on Jio Hotstar in India and Paramount+ in the US. The latest installment has earned an impressive critics’ score of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. But there is one gripping series that came out more than a decade ago, centered on the hunt for an elusive serial killer, and it’s rated higher than even the latest Dexter installment.
The must-watch show we are talking about is none other than the first season of True Detective (2014). If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s why it still deserves to be on your watchlist, and here’s where you can stream it on Ott.

The fact that there was going to be a Blade reboot as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring Mashershala Ali in the title role, came as a huge surprise when the announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con back in July of 2019… but we’ve reached the six year anniversary of that announcement, and we still haven’t seen a new Blade movie. The closest we’ve gotten is Ali making a vocal cameo as the character at the end of Eternals back in 2021. Things have been looking dire, with screenwriters and directors coming and going – but while talking to a group of journalists at Marvel Studios last Friday, studio president Kevin Feige confirmed that Ali is still attached to star in an MCU Blade movie, which may have finally found its story and setting.

Marvel Studios is still working on its long-delayed Blade movie, but fans might need to wait a little longer. In a new interview with TheWrap and other reporters, Marvel boss Kevin Feige shared why the project has been so slow.
According to him, the studio rushed to make too many shows and movies at once, and Blade ended up being one of the projects that suffered because of it.
Feige said that Mahershala Ali is still set to play the famous vampire hunter. However, Marvel decided to stop and rethink the movie after they realized the script wasn’t good enough. “We didn’t feel confident,” Feige explained, adding that the studio had already gone through four different versions of the story.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has shared a new update about the long-delayed Blade movie. Speaking to TheWrap and other reporters, Feige explained that the film’s struggles were caused by Marvel’s focus on making too many projects too quickly.
He admitted that Blade became a victim of what he called the company’s “quantity over quality” phase.

It's pretty much six years to the day that Marvel Studios ended its Hall H panel at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con by announcing that Mahershala Ali would lead a new Blade movie.

Marvel Studios Kevin Feige gave an update on where the company currently stands with “Blade,” telling TheWrap alongside a group of reporters on Friday the studio “didn’t feel confident” in the script, highlighting that there have been four versions of the project as it became a casualty of a push for quantity over quality.
Mahershala Ali is still attached to star as the half-human vampire hunter, Feige confirmed, while openly admitting that the company’s recent struggles stem from prioritizing quantity over quality, and “Blade” was a consequence of that Disney-mandated expansion to fill up Disney+.

Ever since its premiere in 2018, True Detective has become one of the best anthology series on TV. With new suspense, themes, and atmosphere in each season, the show has unraveled four different mysteries, some of which are known for their noir style and great performances, while some miss the mark.
However, despite that, each season delivered its best with its stellar cast, story, acting, and great execution. Still, there has been a progression with every season that affects the audience’s reception and their status as the best, making some emerge as the best, while others remain disappointing.

Few shows, if any, ever reach the level of "True Detective" season 1. As trite as it's become to cite this season of television as one of the finest ever made, it doesn't change the fact that writer Nic Pizzolatto, director Cary Joji Fukunaga, and stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson created something truly special with those eight episodes of television. Leaving aside the incredible depth contained in the show's writing, its historical and literary influences, and the standout performances, one of season 1's most enduring contributions to pop culture remains the phrase "time is a flat circle." But what does this actually mean?
At this point, the phrase has been memed to the point it has lost most of its meaning. You'll likely see some version of the words used any time some cultural event occurs that's vaguely reminiscent of a past event. But there was much more meaning behind...

Marvel Studios' Blade reboot has just been dealt another devastating blow. Mahershala Ali, who is set to star in the long-gestating superhero blockbuster as the titular hero, recently skirted around a question involving the Marvel Cinematic Universe while promoting his new movie, Jurassic World Rebirth.
During a recent appearance on Vogue's Off the Cut podcast (via ComicBook) with his Rebirth co-stars Jonathan Bailey and Scarlett Johansson, the cast was asked how many Marvel movies they had appeared in, prompting Ali to state, "Leave me out of it. That's a Scarlett question." Ali tossing the question away from him as quickly as possible implies that Marvel is still no closer to getting Blade into production, roughly six years after the project was first announced. For what it's worth, even with Blade still in development hell, Ali's answer to the question would technically be one, as he made an uncredited voice cameo...

Hard as it may be to believe, it's been over six years since Marvel Studios announced that Mahershala Ali was set to star as the titular vampire slayer in a new MCU Blade movie.
Numerous delays and setbacks followed, and we got the disappointing news that the project had been removed from Marvel's slate late last year. Though a report that the movie was on indefinite hold followed, we were led to believe that Blade had simply delayed (again) and would eventually move forward.
Ali was asked about the status of the film while being interviewed on the red carpet of last night's Jurassic World Rebirth premiere, and it sounds like he is still more than willing to suit-up as the Daywlker - but the ball is very much in the studio's court.
"Call Marvel," the actor said to Variety. "I’m ready. Let them know I’m ready."

Mahershala Ali doesn’t “know where Marvel is right now” with the Blade reboot. The 51-year-old actor was announced as the titular vampire hunter for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbuster in 2019, though following creative setbacks and production problems, Ali has admitted he is unsure what is happening with Blade at the moment.Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, he said: “I’m just taking it a day at a time. I’m doing the best work I can.”Ali pointed to his upcoming action film Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother - which is being directed by Bassam Tariq - as a project that has scratched his “stunts itch”, though was still hoping Blade would go ahead. He added: “I would love for Blade to happen; we’ll see, I don’t know where Marvel is at right now. The Blade reboot, starring Mahershala Ali as the titular vampire-killer, seems to be dead in the water. Now, original Blade writer David Goyer wants the world to know he tried to help it survive.
Goyer made the revelation in an interview with Variety, saying that he offered to assist the studio with the project months ago after some prodding from friends. "I wasn't even really thinking about it," he said. "But then I had my agent call Marvel and say, 'Do you guys need any help?' And they said, 'We love you, but we think we've cracked it now, and we’re in a good place.' And then the latest thing happened."
Goyer would have been an ideal person to write the Blade reboot script since he was involved with The Dark Knight trilogy. Despite the rejection, the filmmaker says he would love to work on the Blade reboot if he was asked.

Mike Hammeris about to look a lot like Rust Cohle — or maybe it's the other way around. The point is: Matthew McConaughey is reuniting with his True Detective creator, Nic Pizzolatto, to bring one of the most iconic, and aggressive, detectives to the big screen, with everyone's favorite Texan taking on the titular role. That's right, the prolifically-penned, pulp-y private eye, Mike Hammer, will be the focus of Pizzolatto's next scripted project.
The news, which was first reported by Deadline, comes on the heels of McConaughey's return to the screen in The Rivals of Amziah King after a six-year absence (if you don't count all the cartoon voice work he's done in the intervening years). And while the film's production house, Skydance, has yet to secure a director, with talents like McConaughey and Pizzolatto on board, it will probably only be a matter of days — rather than months — before a name is announced.

True Detective Season 1 has long been regarded as the anthology series' best. Starring Woody Harrelson as Martin Hart and Matthew McConaughey as Rustin Cohle, the season launched the series created by Nic Pizzolatto for HBO. There have been four seasons of the show created over the past 11 years, each with a different cast and characters. Pizzolatto had been at the helm of the first three before departing, and Issa Lopez took over. Pizzolatto recently appeared on the Nothing Left Unsaid podcast, where he teased a Season 1 True Detective reunion, following Rust and Marty in an all-new story. “I actually have another story for Cohle and Hart that — who knows? — maybe we’ll do it one day,” he said in the 65th episode of the podcast. Pizzolatto added:
“It’s character-based again. … But it’s not something I’ve written or anything. It’s just, I had that in my head.

True Detective is one of the greatest modern detective shows and one of the greatest crime shows ever made. The series is an HBO original and an anthology that features new characters every season. The first season is widely regarded as the best the show had to offer. It was unforgivingly dark and tackled some disturbing story elements and themes. It blended the occult into the terrors of reality in a unique way that just about no other shows have been able to mimic.
Now, Nic Pizzolatto, the creator of the show, has appeared on an episode of the Nothing Left Unsaid podcast, and spoke briefly about the existence of an idea that would bring back the main characters from season one that were played by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, who both earned Emmy nominations for their performances.

True Detectivecreator Nic Pizzolatto reveals that Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are open to reprising their roles and that he already has a story for them. Season 1 of the HBO series revolved around Detective Rustin "Rust" Cohle (McConaughey) and Detective Martin "Marty" Hart (Harrelson) while investigating the murder of Dora Lange (Amanda Rose Batz). More than a decade later, season 1 is still widely considered to be True Detective's best season.
While speaking on the Nothing Left Unsaid podcast (via The Hollywood Reporter), Pizzolatto shared that "I actually have another story for Cohle and Hart that, who knows, maybe we’ll do it one day." He revealed that he has spoken to McConaughey and Harrelson and that both actors are "open to it." He clarified that he has not written the story yet and that it is not officially greenlit, but it is something that he and the show's original stars have considered.

True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto says he has “another story” for Rust Cohle and Marty Hart, signalling that Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson could revisit the roles that electrified the show’s 2014 debut season. Speaking during promotional duties for his directorial feature Easy’s Waltz, the writer added that he has discussed the idea with both actors and “the guys are open to it,” though no script exists yet and no formal talks with HBO or Max have begun.
The remarks arrive 16 months after True Detective: Night Country—the Jodie Foster-led fourth season produced without Pizzolatto’s involvement—posted franchise-high multi-platform audiences and collected multiple awards, bolstering HBO’s anthology plans with other showrunners. Pizzolatto acknowledged that he stepped away voluntarily and called the network’s decision to proceed without him “appropriate,” even while maintaining executive-producer credit. His potential reunion with the original stars could therefore run parallel to, rather than replace,...

True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto has an idea for the franchise that would return it to its roots.
During a recent appearance on the Nothing Left Unsaid podcast, Pizzolatto revealed he has an idea for a “story” that would reprise Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson’s characters from season one of the crime drama. Notably, the two stars led the first season of True Detective before the series went on to star a new batch of actors in every following installment.
“I actually have another story for Cohle and Hart that, who knows, maybe we’ll do it one day,” he said, adding that while he hasn’t put pen to paper on the idea, they’ve had conversations “about getting back together and doing it” and both McConaughey and Harrelson “are open to it.”
“It’s not something I’ve written or anything, it’s just in my head,...

Despite having “always been pitched as an anthology,” True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto said the show is perhaps not quite done with Season 1’s Cohle and Hart.
Speaking on a recent episode of Tim Green’s Nothing Left Unsaid podcast, the four-time Emmy-nominated showrunner said that Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson would be “open” to reprising their roles, though a script has not yet been written.
“I actually have another story for Cohle and Hart that, who knows, maybe we’ll do it one day,” he began, adding that he didn’t feel beholden to continuing the inaugural season’s storyline: “But no, there is pressure, but I don’t really feel or respond to pressure that way. I get pressure [from] myself and beyond that it doesn’t exist so much for me and pressure tends to more revolve around, am I discharging my duty correctly for me?”

Eleven years since True Detective first dropped that eerie magic on us, HBO might just be ready to call the OGs back. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson (the gritty dream team who turned bayou brooding into high art) are reportedly being eyed for a return.
After a few uneven seasons, the idea of Rust and Marty suiting up again feels like HBO digging through its old vinyls for that one perfect track. Could this be the comeback that brings the moody brilliance full circle? If anyone can resurrect that slow-burn glory, it’s these two Southern-fried legends.
