If a movie is going to be mostly close-up reactions of its lead actor, then the actor needs to have an expressive face. Jake Gyllenhaal, who more than fits the bill, faced this challenge in the 2021 thriller "The Guilty," directed by Antoine Fuqua (who used unorthodox filming methods to shoot the movie during the pandemic) and scripted by "True Detective" creator Nic Pizzolatto.

Neal McDonough, seen in Band of Brothers, Minority Report, and Western series such as Yellowstone and Tulsa King, has addressed his recent distancing from the industry. Despite some prominent roles in big productions from Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg, McDonough's career has taken a hit; today, he's mostly featured in smaller projects, but it isn't for lack of trying. The actor says that due to one of his contractual requests, "Hollywood turned on him." The specific request? McConaughey stars as a wayward school bus driver who partners with a dedicated school teacher (America Ferrera) to save 22 children from a terrifying inferno. Yul Vazquez, Spencer Watson, and Ashlie Atkinson also star. The logline reads: “A determined father risks everything to rescue a teacher and her students from a raging wildfire.”

Oscar-nominated “United 93” director Paul Greengrass helms the film which is inspired by real events. Greengrass and Brad Ingelsby co-wrote the feature, based on the book “Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire” by Lizzie Johnson. Ingelsby, Jason Blum, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Gregory Goodman are producing the Apple Original Film, which the studio deemed a “white-knuckle ride through one of America’s deadliest wildfires.

The directorial debuts of comedian Aziz Ansari, “Euphoria” breakout Maude Apatow, “Succession” star Brian Cox and “Split” actor James McAvoy will world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Ansari’s action comedy “Good Fortune,” Apatow’s coming-of-age comedy “Poetic License,” Cox’s British drama “Glenrothan” and McAvoy’s musical biopic “California Schemin'” are among the new additions to the TIFF lineup. Other films that will host world premieres at the annual Canadian-based gathering include Alex Winter’s “Adulthood” and Bobby Farrelly’s “Driver’s Ed.”

Hard as it may be to believe, it's been over six years since Marvel Studios announced that Mahershala Ali was set to star as the titular vampire slayer in a new MCU Blade movie.

Numerous delays and setbacks followed, and we got the disappointing news that the project had been removed from Marvel's slate late last year. Though a report that the movie was on indefinite hold followed, we were led to believe that Blade had simply delayed (again) and would eventually move forward.

True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto and season 1 star Matthew McConaughey will reunite for a new mystery movie, 11 years later. The HBO anthology detective show premiered in 2014, maintaining impressive viewership and earning Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Drama Series and more. The news, which was first reported by Deadline, comes on the heels of McConaughey's return to the screen in The Rivals of Amziah King after a six-year absence (if you don't count all the cartoon voice work he's done in the intervening years). And while the film's production house, Skydance, has yet to secure a director, with talents like McConaughey and Pizzolatto on board, it will probably only be a matter of days — rather than months — before a name is announced.
