2025's Horror Sleeper Hit That Grossed 10x Its Budget Is Surging on Streaming 2 Months After Leaving Theaters

Audiences can't get enough of Clown in a Cornfieldon one underrated streaming platform.

Per FlixPatrol, director and co-writer Eli Craig's Clown in a Cornfield has found its way to the number two spot on the list of the top streaming programs currently available on AMC+. As of the time of writing, Clown in a Cornfield sits behind the historical science-fantasy hit Nautilus, while maintaining its position well above other major competition like The Walking Dead: Dead City and Monster Island.

Directed by Craig from a screenplay co-written alongside Carter Blanchard, which itself was based on author Adam Cesare's 2020 novel of the same name, Clown in a Cornfield stars Katie Douglas as Quinn Maybrook, a highschooler who moves to the quiet town of Kettle Springs along with her father, Aaron Abrams' Doctor Glenn Maybrook. Shortly after settling down in Kettle Springs, Quinn learns about the fire that claimed the...

You Can Finally Stream “The best slasher of the year” And It’s Brutal
Image
I love a good slasher movie. Ever since David Gordon Green resurrected Michael Myers for a new trilogy of Halloween films—some good, some not—studios have been pumping out one slasher after another. There’s always money in the slasher banana stand, it seems. Halloween grossed $259 million at the worldwide box office, after all.

Since then, we’ve had new Scream, new Saw, new I Know What You Did Last Summer, and so much more. Legacy sequels have been all the rage, but the fortuitous timing has also allowed burgeoning horror icons like Art the Clown to really take off. Netflix doubled down with their Fear Street series of films, and the likes of Thanksgiving and Heart Eyes have introduced new classics to the slasher canon. It’s a slasher renaissance, and luckily, one of the best this century just arrived on streaming. Adapted from Adam Cesare’s novel of the same name,...

This is the best Netflix show right now (and no it’s not Squid Game)
Image
Squid Game might be the show that everyone's talking about at the moment since its final season was released recently, but that doesn't mean it's the only Netflix series worth your time. In fact, we'd argue that there's another show on the streaming platform that deserves the crown right now. Can you guess what it is?

It's a show that has been around for quite some time, and it just had a really emotional third season that many are calling the best season yet. Think small town, mother-daughter drama, and moments that will have you laughing one minute and reaching for tissues the next. If you guessed Ginny and Georgia, you'd be correct!

Sarah Lampert created Ginny and Georgia. It's a comedy-drama series that has seen much success since its premiere in February 2021. There have been three seasons released so far, with its latest installment dropping in June 2025. A fourth...

“That Was So Sad”: ‘Ginny & Georgia’ Star, 26, on Why Abby Keeps Pushing Max Away [Exclusive]
Image
It's long been clear on Netflix's Ginny & Georgia that Mang is a toxic friend group. Although the clique of high school girls becomes a crucial part of Ginny's (Antonia Gentry) support system, their dynamic has been less than friendly at times, jumping readily to judgment and distrust that keeps the four from honestly opening up about their troubles or offering forgiveness when mistakes are made. Sara Waisglass's Maxine Baker has often been at the center of that hostility as the group's controlling leader, but she's been slowly making positive changes. However, her attempts to be a better friend in Season 3 were largely met with a cold shoulder, especially from Katie Douglas's Abby. During an episode of Collider Ladies Night with Perri Nemiroff, Douglas shared her thoughts on why Abby was so adamantly pushing her old friend away and what it could mean for the future.

“We Needed To Push Our Characters”: ‘Ginny & Georgia’ Creator Sarah Lampert Reveals Season 4 Plans
Image
The third season of Ginny & Georgia has begun streaming on Netflix and with it audiences get to enjoy Georgia's (Brianne Howey) trial for the murder of Tom Fuller (Vincent Legault). Of course, this means that the world of every member of the Miller family has been turned upside down. Georgia's troubles have seen the viewership numbers for the show surge incredibly. For context, Ginny & Georgia Season 3 earned 17.6 million viewers during its first four days on the streamer. The season ended with a not-guilty verdict for Georgia, thanks to her kids framing Austin’s (Diesel La Torraca) father, Gil (Aaron Ashmore), for Tom Fuller’s death. So will Austin and Ginny (Antonia Gentry) suffer any consequences for their actions?

Ginny & Georgia has already been renewed for a fourth season and the question is what comes next for the characters on the show. Ginny & Georgia creator Sarah Lampert...

‘Clown in a Cornfield’ Review
Image
Stars: Katie Douglas, Aaron Abrams, Carson MacCormac, Vincent Muller, Kevin Durand, Will Sasso, Verity Marks, Cassandra Potenza, Ayo Solanke, Alexandra Martin Deakin | Written by Eli Craig, Carter Blanchard | Directed by Eli Craig

Adapted from the 2020 YA novel by Adam Cesare, teen slasher horror Clown in a Cornfield is directed by Eli Craig, who made the 2010 cult comedy hit Tucker and Dale vs Evil. As such, there are some decent stabs at Scream-style meta-comedy and a couple of excellent twists, but the actual horror falls a little flat, especially compared to recent clown-based frighteners.

The film opens in small-town Kettle Springs, Missouri, in 1991, where a couple of partying teens get murdered by a psycho in a clown costume, just as they’re about to have sex in a cornfield. The film then jumps to the present day, where 17-year-old Quinn (Katie Douglas) is moving into Kettle Springs, along with her...

Note: This story contains spoilers from “Ginny & Georgia” Season 3, Episode 10.

As “Ginny & Georgia” Season 3 put Antonia Gentry’s Ginny through the ringer with her Georgia (Brianne Howey) sits on trial for murder, Sara Waisglass’ Maxine wants nothing more than to be there for Ginny, but finds that her advances aren’t well-received, to say the least.

“She’s an Entirely New Person”: ‘Ginny & Georgia’s Brianne Howey Dubs Season 3 Georgia’s Breakdown Season [Exclusive]
Image
Editor's Note: This article contains spoilers for Ginny & Georgia Season 3.

One thing that's remained true throughout Ginny & Georgia so far is that, despite her flaws, Georgia loves her children more than anything. The series has focused on her desperate attempts to give Ginny and Austin a fresh start in Wellsbury, where they could, ideally, live a normal life together. Alas, her relationships and past continue to haunt the family, with Season 2 taking a particularly devastating turn in its finale when she's arrested for the murder of Cynthia's husband, Tom. Her eccentric, free-spirited nature has never made life the easiest for her children, but series star Brianne Howey notes that she did take a small step forward in how she acts for their sake in Season 3.

During the latest episode of Collider Ladies Night with Perri Nemiroff, Howey dug deep on all the juicy details of the recently-released season,...

Ginny and Georgia Reveals Who Abby Ends Up With In Season 3
Image
Ginny and Georgia Season 3's penultimate episode finally revealed who Abby ended up with (and it's not who you think). While Netflix's family drama series continues the story of Georgia (Brianne Howey) and Virginia Miller (Antonia Gentry) as they deal with the consequences of Georgia's arrest and a brief stint in jail, the new season also juggles several storylines with the other characters, such as Abby Littman (Katie Douglas).

Abby is a member of Ginny's best friend group, Mang, in Wellsbury High alongside Norah Cohen (Chelsea Clark) and Maxine Baker (Sara Waisglass). Although she started as a bully to Ginny, the pair eventually patched things up and became closer in Season 3.

Most of Abby's journey in the new season centers on her sexuality and the drama surrounding her casual relationship with Matthew Press (Damian Romeo).

"Two Ships Passing in the Night": 'Ginny & Georgia' Star Teases a "Very Different" Relationship With Zion in Season 4 [Exclusive]
Image
Editor's Note: This article contains spoilers for Ginny & Georgia Season 3.

Season 3 of Ginny & Georgia is finally here, and with it came some big changes for Georgia and her family. After she was arrested in the Season 2 finale and charged with the murder of Cynthia’s husband, Tom, the joys of her marriage to Paul faded away, and everyone was left to deal with the fallout of her trial. Among those left reeling was Zion, Georgia's ex-boyfriend and the father of Ginny, played by Nathan Mitchell. The two have maintained a fairly close relationship as co-parents throughout the series, even reconciling on occasion, but Georgia's trial required him to step up in a greater way than ever to support Ginny and Austin at a time when it seemed their mother might go to prison. However, according to star Brianne Howey, that bond between the two will never be the...

Clown In A Cornfield
Image
There’s something unsettling about cornfields. It’s all those dry, sharp blades stabbing upwards, and stalks tall enough for a monster to hide among. And everything about clowns is disturbing, figures who choose to inhabit an uncanny valley of exaggerated features and inhumanly large feet. Put the two together and of course you get an effective, gory teen slasher with a keen sense of genre savvy.

Katie Douglas plays Quinn, a big-city girl who must learn to negotiate a small town that’s barely hanging on after the local corn-syrup factory burned down. At school she falls in with a gang of pranksters who make YouTube videos reimagining the factory’s clown mascot, Frendo, as a serial killer, but wouldn’t you know it, Frendo might really be out there killing people.

Expect twists on the usual clichés.

So far, so basic, and it would be a spoiler to...

We see her behind bars in Ginny and Georgia season 3 episode 9, "It's Time For My Solo," and how Ginny does all she can to help her mother out. Here's a recap of the episode on Netflix. Spoilers below.

Breakdowns & Breakthroughs: How Ginny & Georgia Season 3 Handled Mental Health
Image
Dealing with depression, anxiety, and addiction is a journey and not something that’s magically cured and swept under the rug.

Many television shows prefer to do an arc on a character’s mental health journey, have them attend therapy, and assume they’re in recovery.

We appreciate the way Ginny & Georgia Season 3 continued to handle mental health storylines, mainly because Ginny and Marcus’s struggles with anxiety were ongoing. It showcased both their breakdowns and their breakthroughs.

(Amanda Matlovich/Netflix © 2025)

While the series delved into their progress, their mental health struggles weren’t the only traits that defined them, and that was so important.

So much of the series has focused on Ginny and Marcus’s mental health issues that I enjoyed how this season also featured Abby’s eating disorder and Max’s issues that often get ignored in favor of Marcus’s.

Ginny & Georgia Season 3 Review — Can a Killer Plot Save the Show?
Image
Using the soap opera for teen dramas is a hallmark of television. In a way, Netflix has weaponized the format to create a dozen shows that fill the void that traditional TV left for the target audience. Ginny & Georgia, entering its third season, continues to combine small-town life with a wild killing spree on the side. While the mother and daughter run from the past, it seems the cyclical nature of life continues to throw them curveballs. With a murder trial, a mayoral campaign, and the shifting moods of the town, Ginny & Georgia has the narrative beats to be a fun show. Unfortunately, it’s not always a good one.

Ginny & Georgia Season 3 Plot

To kick off Season 3, Ginny & Georgia picks up in the immediate aftermath of Georgia’s (Brianne Howey) arrest, and the town of Wellsbury turns against her. Georgia’s new husband, Mayor Paul...

Clown In A Cornfield Joins Terrifier As The Latest Indie Clown Horror Box Office Hit
Image
It wasn't exactly a huge weekend overall at the box office, particularly by summer standards. Marvel's "Thunderbolts" won its second weekend with a $33 million haul, while Ryan Coogler's "Sinners" continued its record-breaking run by adding another $22 million. But while those movies were battling it out atop the charts, and as "A Minecraft Movie" topped $900 million globally, an indie horror movie found a surprising amount of success, albeit with a little less fanfare.

IFC's new slasher "Clown in a Cornfield" opened over the weekend with a $3.6 million domestic box office, good enough for number five on the charts. That's not a monster total on the surface, but it set a record for IFC, a company that has been around for more than two decades. It now ranks as the distributor's biggest opening weekend ever, overtaking last year's acclaimed "Late Night with the Devil" ($2.8 million), which went on to make $10 million domestically and $15 million globally.

IFC Entertainment Group Has Its Biggest Opening Weekend Ever With Clown In A Cornfield: "IFC Entertainment Group had its biggest opening weekend box office success ever with the release of Eli Craig’s Clown In A Cornfield, which grossed $3.6 million at the U.S. box office. The Rlje / Shudder film, which opened as the #1 new film in the US and 5th overall, lands the Group’s Rlje division its highest grosser to date and the Group’s widest theatrical opening, on 2,277 screens.

Clown In A Cornfield’s opening weekend broke records for IFC Entertainment Group, surpassing its 2024 success Late Night With The Devil’s box office opening of $2.8 million, and In A Violent Nature’s theatrical opening with 1,496 theaters last year.

“To say we are thrilled with the tremendous response to Eli Craig’s witty and playful adaptation of Adam Cesare’s chart-topping novel would be an understatement,” said...

‘Clown in a Cornfield’ Scores IFC’s Biggest Opening Weekend Ever!
Image
Clown in the Cornfield earned IFC Entertainment Group’s biggest opening weekend ever with a $3.6 million gross. It was also the company’s widest theatrical opening, on 2,277 screens.

The slasher, which opened at #5 at the box office, surpassed Late Night with the Devil‘s $2.8 million opening. That movie went on to make $10M, which Clown is projected to exceed.

Based on Adam Cesare‘s Bram Stoker Award-winning 2020 novel of the same name, Clown in a Cornfield is directed by Eli Craig (Tucker and Dale vs Evil) from a script he co-wrote with Carter Blanchard.

“To say we are thrilled with the tremendous response to Eli Craig’s witty and playful adaptation of Adam Cesare’s chart-topping novel would be an understatement. This success is the result of great storytelling, tireless work from the entire team at IFC Entertainment Group and is a huge win for our Rlje division,” said Head...

Clown In A Cornfield North America Box Office: Registers IFC’s Biggest Opening Ever By Scoring $3 Million+
Image
Clown In A Cornfield North America Box Office (Photo Credit – Instagram)

A creepy clown stalking a sleepy little town has turned into a big box office win. Clown in a Cornfield, the latest horror flick to hit the big screen, slashed its way to a record-breaking debut, pulling in $3.6 million at the North American box office (as per Box Office Mojo) over its first weekend. That’s now the highest opening ever for IFC (film distribution company), nudging aside last year’s surprise hit Late Night with the Devil, which had earned $2.8 million in its opening run.

Big Returns On A Tiny Budget

The film’s shoestring budget, which is less than $1 million, makes the box office haul even more impressive. Early signs point to it going even further, especially considering Late Night with the Devil ended up raking in $10 million. It seems momentum is definitely on Clown in a Cornfield’s side.

New Killer Clown Horror Movie Sets a Box Office Record With Debut in Theaters
Image
The new horror movie Clown in a Cornfield is now in theaters. In its opening weekend with its wide release, the film has also managed to set a new record.

Clown in a Cornfield has debuted with a haul of $3.6 million in its opening weekend. Per Deadline, this sets the new record as IFC's biggest opening weekend box office to date, surpassing last year's Late Night with the Devil, which earned $2.8 million. Late Night with the Devil went on to reach $10 million, and it's probable that Clown in a Cornfield will surpass that number.

This is great news for the film, which was made with a budget of less than $1 million. The movie's response has also been good, with Clown in a Cornfield earning a Certified Fresh score of 73% on Rotten Tomatoes. After its world premiere at SXSW, the film drew a lot of praise with its early reviews.

'Tucker & Dale vs. Evil' Director Confirms Which Studio Executive Killed the Sequel Series
Image
Clown in a Cornfielddirector Eli Craig confirms exactly who shut down the Tucker & Dale vs. Evil sequel series - and the truth will not surprise you.

Per Deadline, Craig recently discussed the numerous failed attempts to return to the world of Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. "Honestly, Tucker and Dale 2 has died more deaths than the college kids in Tucker and Dale," Craig said. "We’ve had so many versions that have almost got off its feet or, for one reason or another, have gotten killed. It really does set us back that people can’t look at the box office, the actual box office, of the movie."

"It’s always been a struggle, and then when we do set it up, and we get all the pieces together, it gets killed somehow," Craig explained. "We almost did a TV show with it that was on TNT/TBS, and...

Image
Update May 11, 2025: Thunderbolts, aka New Avengers, dominated the box office during the May 9-11 weekend, earning $33.1 million in its second outing. Ticket sales for Disney's Marvel movie dropped just 55 percent from its $74 million opening, buoyed by its A-minus CinemaScore and glowing reviews. In second place, Sinners held strong with $21.1 million, with the Warner Bros. vampire flick's domestic tally soaring past $200 million and nearing $300 million worldwide. A Minecraft Movie followed in third with $8 million in its sixth weekend; the video game-based movie, also from Warner Bros., has now grossed $409 million in North America as it inches closer to $1 billion globally.
