He began work on a film featuring Ravi Krishna, Anjali Devi's granddaughter Saila Rao and Sonia Agarwal for producer Krishnakanth, but financial troubles meant that the film was stalled and Stanley took a sabbatical.

In early 2015, he planned to make a film titled Adam's Apple for AR Murugadoss's production house and cast Vaibhav and Andrea Jeremiah. However the project eventually did not materialise.

After deciding to work in films, Stanley approached popular filmmakers Mahendran and Sasi with whom he had worked as an assistant. He learned the craft for 12 years before making his directorial debut with 'April Maadhathil' a romantic story in 2002.

Stanley grew up mostly in Chennai and holds a graduation degree in Botany from Coimbatore Government Arts College.
