Steven Knight’s latest does not usher such ecstatic reactions. Quite the antithesis in fact. A film comparable to that of Wally Pfister’s twenty-fourteen film Transcendence that explodes on instant impact of release with a tremendous cast list utterly dissipated in what quite possibly may be one of the most diabolical ventures in film in the last two decades.

A new proof of concept short film has arrived online this week titled Apocalypse Now Now, set in Cape Town, South Africa. The film is about a serial killer kid who partners with bounty hunter to clear his name. He ends up getting dragged into a "deep, dark Cape Town underbelly full of monsters and myth, shadowy government forces." The main creature in this is badass, and the rest of it is sleek and stylish, and just the right amount of gritty. Starring Garion Dowds, Louw Venter, and Faniswa Yisa. This also kind of reminds me of Attack the Block, and if that film can get made, turn into a big cult hit, and launch the career of John Boyega, then this deserves to...

The film stars Steve Coogan and Garion Dowds and comes from producers Anant Singh ("Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom") and Brian Cox (“Kite"). Inspired by true events, the story is set into motion after Leon, a white 19-year-old prison guard, kills seven black prisoners. Lawyer John Weber (Steve Coogan) takes on his case and uncovers how twisted and backwards the South African legal system is. "It’s a film about young people taken by a society, taught how to kill and then left to their own devices," explains Schmitz in an official statement. "It’s very much about apartheid, but equally it could be.

The Berlinale (Feb 11-21) has completed the selection for this year’s Panorama strand, comprising 51 films from 33 countries. A total of 34 fiction features comprise the main programme and Panorama Special while a further 17 titles will screen in Panorama Dokumente.

A total of 33 films are world premieres, nine are international premieres and nine European premieres. The 30th Teddy Award is also being celebrated with an anniversary series of 17 films.
