A Quentin Tarantino Movie Resulted In A First-Time Oscar Winner In Another Film
Image
Ever since his indie directorial debut "Reservoir Dogs" took the Sundance Film Festival by storm (en route to becoming obligatory dorm room postering throughout the 1990s), Quentin Tarantino has had a reputation for being a casting virtuoso. Every single part in "Reservoir Dogs" and "Pulp Fiction" feels divinely preordained, but credit must be shared with his casting collaborators over the years, starting with the late Ronnie Yeskel on those first two movies and continuing on to Victoria Thomas, who's been working with Tarantino since "Django Unchained."

One of the more interesting elements of Tarantino's movies is his penchant for reviving the careers of one-time stars; he's a cinephile, so he's not often in the discovery business. When you get cast in a Tarantino film, you've either happened or are on the verge of happening. Outside of boosting the careers of character actors, can you think of a time that Tarantino...

Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson in Una pallottola spuntata (2025)
The Naked Gun director took visual inspiration from one particular James Bond movie
Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson in Una pallottola spuntata (2025)
During the pandemic, The Naked Gun director Akiva Schaffer watched a lot of action movies with his friend Matt Bettinelli-Olpin (Ready or Not), including a rewatch of the entire James Bond franchise. In a recent episode of The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers podcast, Schaffer explained that one Bond movie in particular helped shape the visual style of his Naked Gun movie.

“You know what movie I kind of — not discovered, but that I realized was like the perfect sweet spot — was Tomorrow Never Dies,” Schaffer said. “Me and Matt watched every James Bond movie in order, and when it got to Tomorrow Never Dies, it was like the old way jumped forward — it became a modern movie. Like even the surround sound on my TV came alive. And all those movies were shot on 35 millimeter, but before you could color time them in a computer and crush all the blacks,...

Slashers that still kill it: 7 horror flicks to stream this week
Image
A mix of old-school scares and fresh kills for your next horror binge.

I’m not usually a horror movie guy, but I can handle a good slasher. Over the weekend, I watched the reboot “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” and it totally scratched that itch. It’s not reinventing the genre or anything, but it’s a campy, violent, nostalgic ride that kept me guessing right up to the last scene. It got me thinking about how fun a great slasher can be when you’re in the right mood. So, if you’re ready for some blood-soaked thrills, here’s my list of the best slasher movies you can stream right now.

Top 7 slasher horror movies on streaming right now

No. 7: ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’

No. 6: ‘In a Violent Nature’

No. 5: ‘Scream’

No. 4: ‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’

No. 3: ‘Freaky’

A Brutal Horror Film That “Makes vampires fun and nasty again” Is Now Streaming on Prime Video
Image
I am such a fan of the filmmaking collective Radio Silence. They have demonstrated a mastery of the anthology format as well as feature-length fare. The group first came on our radar via a segment in the 2012 horror anthology V/H/S, and they’ve been at it ever since. Following their arrival on the scene, the collective went on to helm the brilliant horror comedy Ready or Not and the celebrated slasher sequels Scream (2022) and Scream VI.

The group originally started as a foursome, but is now a twosome comprised of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Despite losing producers Chad Villella and Justin Martinez along the way, the collective has never ceased to impress.

Abigail, a more recent Radio Silence picture, recently made its way onto Prime Video, and that is more than enough reason to spend a moment championing this outlandish and undeniably gruesome effort.

What is Abigail about?...

Scream 7: Everything We Know About the New Sequel
Image
In 2022, Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media revived the Scream franchise with a new entry (the fifth) that was a box office hit, earning almost $139 million at the global box office. Fourteen months later, Scream VI came along – and became an even bigger hit, pulling in almost $169 million at the global box office, a number that was up there with the series’ heyday, when the first Scream and Scream 2 made just over $170 million. (Scream 3 also made over $160 million – only Scream 4 failed to crack $100 million.) So, of course, the companies are moving full steam ahead with Scream 7. While the movie seemed, initially, to be on the fast-track to success, the track it’s on has turned out to be a shockingly bumpy ride.

Melissa Barrera entered the franchise with the fifth Scream as a character named Samantha Carpenter, who turns out to have been the...

Cryptid fans, get ready, because there’s a new Bigfoot movie on the horizon. Directed by Max Tzannes and co-written by Tzannes and David San Miguel, Found Footage: The Making Of The Patterson Project is a horror-comedy mockumentary about an ill-fated film crew’s attempts to make their own found footage movie about Sasquatch himself. But, as you can imagine, it doesn’t quite go to plan.

Read the full synopsis:

Found Footage is a mockumentary horror movie about a budding filmmaker’s attempt to produce his first feature, a found footage movie about Bigfoot. Through the eyes of an esteemed French documentary crew, the story follows his unlikely band of misfits as they struggle to keep the production afloat on a shoestring budget. All the while, mysterious and sinister occurrences begin to unfold behind the scenes, blurring the lines between movie magic and real life. As the shoot days get longer and scarier,...

10 Must-Watch Serial Killer Movies on Netflix To Stream
Dermot Mulroney, Courteney Cox, Hayden Panettiere, Tony Revolori, Liana Liberato, Josh Segarra, Mason Gooding, Samara Weaving, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Jack Champion, and Devyn Nekoda in Scream VI (2023)
Serial killers in cinema have always terrified us, not just for their brutality, but for how they reflect the darkest corners of human psychology. Whether inspired by real-life figures or invented entirely in fiction, these films and series use murder not merely as a plot but as a lens to explore obsession, guilt, charisma, and fear. From the masked mayhem of Scream VI to the icy restraint of Watcher, this movie list gathers titles currently streaming on Netflix that dig into the minds of serial killers — and those who survive them. These aren’t just slashers; they’re portraits of violence and its ripple effects.

1. Scream VI (2023)

Scream VI stretches the meta-slasher franchise into bloodier, bolder terrain by taking the Ghostface killings to New York City. This time, it’s not just the violence but the legacy that haunts. The film leans into generational trauma, genre awareness, and urban anonymity...

The minute fans hear “found footage,” they jump to the big names of the genre — The Blair Witch Projectcomes to mind. “There’s Always a New Killer and a New Motive”: Kevin Williamson Reveals What He’s Most Excited for Fans To See in ‘Scream 7’ [Exclusive]
Image
After penning the first, second, and fourth films and having the tiny credit of creating the entire universe, Scream scribe, Kevin Williamson, stepped away from the slasher story for good after 2011’s Scream 4. Or so he thought. When the film series was reborn thanks to co-directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin in 2022’s Scream, Williamson decided to pass the reigns of writer over and settle into a more behind-the-scenes position as executive producer — a job he would return to for the 2023 follow-up. But the upcoming Scream 7 will see Williamson step into an entirely new position, that of director, after a certain someone pushed him towards making his big return.

During an interview with Collider’s Christina Radish, during which the pair spoke about his new Netflix series, The Waterfront, Williamson was happy to open up about how he got roped back into the family and why he thinks...

‘Scream 7’ Director Addresses Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega's Shocking Franchise Exit and How It Impacted His Movie
Image
Introducing new leading characters to a long-running franchise is incredibly difficult. It’s a sink or swim moment that often leads to the former and the loss of a beloved IP. But, in the case of Scream, the fandom welcomed newcomers Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown into the family with open arms following their arrival in Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s fifth installment back in 2022. For that film, the fresh quartet had tentpole characters like Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, David Arquette’s Dewey Riley, and Courtney Cox’s Gale Weathers to hold them up, but their characters — known collectively as The Core Four — soon built a legacy of their own.

After two movies together, The Core Four broke up following the firing of Barrera by Spyglass Media Group for her pro-Palestinian stance, which she shared on social media. Shortly after, Ortega also announced...

Scream 7 Director Addresses Melissa Barrera's Controversial Exit
Image
The controversial ouster of star Melissa Barrera and the various exits that followed put Scream 7 in limbo. Though the Scream sequel is now on track under the guidance of creator Kevin Williamson, he admits that he didn't want to direct the movie and needed convincing from the franchise's top star to make it.

Speaking with Screen Rant for his upcoming Netflix series The Waterfront, an upcoming Netflix series, Williamson addressed the exits of Barrera and co-star Jenna Ortega, prompting a creative overhaul that made Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott the main character instead. "It was sort of, 'Well, what’s going to happen?' after we lost Melissa and Jenna, and it just looked like we weren’t going to see the Carpenter sisters in a third movie, it was kind of a bummer," he said. "It’s like, 'What do we do next?"

"This idea to bring Sidney...

The star of Ready or Not 2: Here I Come has teased the upcoming horror sequel. The 2026 release is a follow-up to the 2019 movie, which follows new bride Grace (Samara Weaving) being forced into a deadly game of hide-and-seek by her in-laws, the Le Domas family. Searchlight announces the release date for Ready or Not 2: Here I Come
Image
Ready or Not was my favorite horror movie of 2019, it was a nearly perfect film. Samara Weaving headed the star-studded cast, and as usual, gave a gonzo performance as Grace, a new bride who has married into a family that acquired their wealth through their Le Domas Family Games company.

After the wedding, Grace sets down with the Le Domas family to participate in their somewhat odd tradition: at midnight on the wedding day, the new family member must draw a card from a special puzzle box, and everyone then plays whatever game is written on that card. Her new husband explains that a long-ago ancestor made a deal with someone named le Bail, who promised them that their fortune would remain as long as they observed this tradition.

Grace, still in her wedding gown, draws a card that reads “Hide and Seek”, and we see each of the family members react.

‘Ready or Not 2’ Writer Reveals Sequel Plot Details
Image
Ready or Not, the 2019 horror breakout from Scream directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, is set to get a sequel soon. Officially titled Ready or Not: Here I Come—a great nod to the original's hide-and-seek game— the film will see Samara Weaving reprising her role as Grace, one of the best "final girls" we've seen in recent years. Guy Busick will once again have screenwriting duties alongside R. Christopher Murphy, and he offered major details about the sequel, noting that "it picks up the second after the first movie ends."

Busick is a busy man these days. Recently, he was part of the writing team behind another very important sequel, Final Destination Bloodlines. Busick is also in charge of writing the upcoming Scream sequel, Scream 7 (he co-wrote 2022's Scream and Scream VI with Ready or Not producer James Vanderbilt).

However, when speaking to Comic Book, he doesn't spill...

Scream 7 Writer Explains Movie's Major Story Changes After Cast Exits
Image
Kevin Williamson's Scream 7 is taking the titular slasher franchise in a different direction -- after several significant cast departures and creative changes that nearly derailed the movie. With the sequel back on track, screenwriter Guy Busick has revealed the time jump and story changes made so that Scream 7 could move on from the Carpenter sisters.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Busick -- who wrote the last two Scream films following the franchise's soft reset -- addressed the creative shifts necessitated by the departures of stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, plus several directorial changes. He confirmed Scream 7 is set years after Scream VI and takes place away from the New York setting featured in the last two films.

“It’s not New York. I don’t want to be the one to spoil where it is," he said. "It’s an unspecified amount of time [after VI]. I might get contradicted by other people,...

“Here’s What the Universe Dealt Us”: ‘Scream 7’ Writer Reveals How the Movie Handles Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega’s Exits
Image
Fans might be wondering just how much change went into the original Scream 7 script compared to what we’ll see when the movie slashes onto theater screens next February. Well, according to the movie’s scribe, Guy Busick, the answer is everything. Busick, who also penned the fifth and sixth installments, recently sat down with ComicBook and revealed the original plans for the highly-anticipated film — and it sounds like it was made without the return of Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott in mind.

Revealing that after losing Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega (more on that in a moment), the creative team “had to start from scratch,” Busick said, “We weren’t able to use what we had in the previous iteration for this one.” According to the Abigail andFinal Destination Bloodlines writer,

“We were excited about what we had for that movie. We wanted to do one more ‘Core Four’ movie.

Long-Delayed 'Friday the 13th' Prequel Takes Another Stomp Forward With a 'Forever' Star
Image
It’s been three years since Crystal Lake, a Friday the 13th prequel series, was first announced, and now, the call sheet is beginning to be made public. William Catlett will return to the horror genre following his turn in Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s Universal monster flick, Abigail, in the role of Levon Brooks. As of right now, we don’t know how Levon fits into the story, but we know that Catlett will appear opposite Linda Cardellini (Dead to Me), who will lead the cast as Pamela Vorhees. The series is set to follow the days of Vorhees’ life before the scream-worthy events of Sean S. Cunningham’s 1980 film, Friday the 13th, went down.

Along with Abigail, Catlett has recently appeared in feature-length titles, including Alexandre Aja’s survival horror flick Never Let Go and the A.V. Rockwell-helmed drama, A Thousand and One. On the small screen,...

'Ready or Not 2' Producer Teases Horror Sequel Status: "It's So Early"
Image
Ready or Not, the horror comedy released in 2019, was a surprisingly successful piece that proved the genre could still be effective without relying on a major franchise or familiar IP. Its hilarious conclusion left things open, and after a strong box office performance, talks about a sequel began. Ready or Not: Here I Come was eventually announced, but six years have already passed since we saw Samara Weaving kicking butt in a huge mansion.

Repeating the same success of the original will be a challenge–especially since a few years have passed. However, producer James Vanderbilt is confident that not rushing things will work out for the best: "We were really hard on ourselves on not just repeating what the first movie was."

Vanderbilt spoke to Comic Book during the promotion of his latest movie, Guy Ritchie's Fountain of Youth. The veteran screenwriter behind 2022's Scream and Scream VI also...

“The Right Amount of Worldbuilding”: ‘Ready or Not: Here I Come’ Producer Reveals the Sequel’s Storyline
Image
Whether you’re ready or not, Ready or Not: Here I Come is on the way — and let us tell you that as huge fans of the first movie, we’re more than ready. The star-studded cast has been announced, and the beginning pieces are falling together for what will undoubtedly be another extraordinary horror-comedy project to come from Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known collectively as Radio Silence. The biggest missing bit of information that we have yet to receive is an update surrounding the storyline, which will be penned by returning writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy. Thankfully, producer James Vanderbilt recently teased what awaited audiences when the follow-up installment eventually explodes into cinemas.

As fans will know, the end of the sequel’s predecessor, Ready or Not, saw Samara Weaving in a last-woman-standing situation after she survived the night and outlived her pursuers, aka her newly sanctioned in-laws.

'100% Cancel Culture': Scream Legacy Star Condemns Melissa Barrera's Controversial Firing
Image
Though Scream 7 is closer to its anticipated release after being knee-deep into production, the fallout from the firing of Melissa Barrera still lingers over the titular slasher franchise. One of Scream's legacy stars is the latest to voice his displeasure with the handling of Barrera's exit, chalking up the decision to "100%...cancel culture."

Speaking with Fox News Digital, Kennedy expressed his anger with Barrera's 2023 firing from the Scream film series after her social media posts about the Israel-Hamas conflict. Kennedy, who portrayed Sidney Prescott's (Neve Campbell) admirer, Randy Meeks, in the first two Scream movies, echoed previous sentiments that firing Barrera from Scream 7 was a bad move, believing she was harshly judged for speaking up on a significant social issue.

“She should have never been fired. She has her beliefs, Ok? She’s allowed to have her beliefs. Other people on set have other beliefs. This is,...

“I’d Do Anything for the Fans”: David Arquette Reveals Why He Returned For ‘Scream 7’ [Exclusive]
Image
By the time David Arquette appeared in Wes Craven’s 1996 franchise-starting film, Scream, he had already collected quite a list of credits. Titles like Fran Rubel Kuzui’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Michael Lehmann’s Airheads began planting the seeds, but his appearance in the slasher flick watered his career into a full blossom. Since then, the actor has gone on to enjoy a fruitful run filled with genre-crossing performances and even a dip into the wild world of professional wrestling. Through it all, Scream remained a constant in his life, with Arquette reprising his role as the bumbling and naive, but lovable and brave Dewey Riley through the fifth installment.

It was in Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin’s Scream, that the heartbeat of the franchise lost his when Dewey was cut down by Ghostface’s blade. As devastating as it was, the tragic moment simply had to...

I Know What You Did Last Summer Trailer Brings Back Original Slasher Survivors
Image
When the "Scream" franchise was successfully restarted in 2022 by the directing team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, fans of 1990s slasher flicks immediately began clamoring for a third trip to the "I Know What You Did Last Summer" universe -- at which point they were reminded of the direct-to-dvd "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer" from 2006, and realized this would actually be the fourth entry in the property.

If you're now scrambling to catch up with this third sequel that you either skipped or plain didn't know about prior to reading the last paragraph, a word of advice: don't bother. It's set in a different town and introduces a whole new group of characters who get stalked and offed by the hook-wielding Fisherman. Also, it's awful. Because of that, I sincerely doubt it will receive more than possibly a jokey reference in the forthcoming "I Know What You Did Last Summer,...
