Kevin Williamson's Scream 7 is taking the titular slasher franchise in a different direction -- after several significant cast departures and creative changes that nearly derailed the movie. With the sequel back on track, screenwriter Guy Busick has revealed the time jump and story changes made so that Scream 7 could move on from the Carpenter sisters.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Busick -- who wrote the last two Scream films following the franchise's soft reset -- addressed the creative shifts necessitated by the departures of stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, plus several directorial changes. He confirmed Scream 7 is set years after Scream VI and takes place away from the New York setting featured in the last two films.

With Scream 7 bringing back several characters from the dead, one franchise alum hopes to join in on the fun and see her character emerge from the afterlife. Scream 2 star Sarah Michelle Gellar hopes for another run in the titular slasher film series nearly 30 years after seeing others return from the dead for the next sequel.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Gellar expressed interest in seeing her character, Cici Cooper, appear in Scream 7 or a future sequel despite being one of Ghostface's many victims in the eponymous franchise. However, Gellar never got a call from creator Kevin Williamson or the Scream brass about a comeback. “I tried to get in Scream – nobody wanted me,” Gellar said. “They were bringing everybody back, I kept thinking I would get a call. Sarah Michelle Gellar is one of the new cast members of the upcoming Ready or Not 2. The highly anticipated sequel revealed its title, Ready or Not: Here I Come, recently.

The thriller horror Ready or Not came from Radio Silence, aka Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett. The movie was a massive critical and commercial success, and a sequel was announced to be in development in March 2024. Shortly after the cast and title announcement, Gellar confirmed during an appearance on the Today show that she is part of the upcoming sequel.

The appearance featured an unexpected Buffy the Vampire Slayer reunion, as Gellar joined forces with her former co-star Alyson Hannigan to discuss their partnership with Gsk for the Ask2BSure campaign to raise awareness of meningitis vaccinations. When asked about current projects, the hosts brought up the fact that Gellar arrived from Toronto, Canada, where the sequel is currently in production.

Though Scream 7 is closer to its anticipated release after being knee-deep into production, the fallout from the firing of Melissa Barrera still lingers over the titular slasher franchise. One of Scream's legacy stars is the latest to voice his displeasure with the handling of Barrera's exit, chalking up the decision to "100%...cancel culture."

Fountain of Youth follows two estranged siblings (John Krasinski and Natalie Portman) who partner on a global heist to find the mythological Fountain of Youth. They must use their knowledge of history to follow clues on an epic adventure that will change their lives… and possibly lead to immortality.

Netflix announced WWE: Unreal, a reality series that opens the WWE writers' room to the public for the first time ever. The ten-episode series will break kayfabe, or the illusion that professional wrestling is real, and take viewers behind the scenes of the WWE's creative process. In the trailer, WWE chief creative officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque says “Seven days a week, 365 days a year. This is a calculated, coordinated production. It’s time. We’re gonna lift the curtain." The series is produced by Eli Manning’s Omaha Productions, the WWE, NFL Films, and Skydance Sports.

The sequel to the hit 2019 horror comedy from directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Radio Silence) was announced with much anticipation late last year with star Samara Weaving (The Babysitter) returning alongside genre vet Kathryn Newton (Freaky). Now it's been revealed that cameras have started rolling on Ready or Not: Here I Come in Toronto with a slew of casting announcements. The latter of which is headlined by slasher icon Sarah Michelle Gellar (I Know What You Did Last Summer) and Elijah Woods (The Monkey).

Reported by Deadline, Gellar and Woods will join the new cast with Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, Kevin Durand and David Cronenberg. The last name on this list is another standout as Cronenberg has directed such genre classics as The Fly (1986), Scanners and Videodrome.

Per Deadline, the full cast of the horror movie has been announced, with Gellar, Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings), Shawn Hatosy (The Pitt), Néstor Carbonell (Bates Motel), Kevin Durand joining returning star Samara Weaving and fellow new addition Kathryn Newton, whose casting was announced back in March. The “Ready or Not” sequel, officially titled “Ready or Not: Here I Come,” starts principal photography on Monday.
