The Waterfront season 1 episode 1 recap: Meet the Buckley family and their drama!
Image
This post contains spoilers from The Waterfront season 1 episode 1 from this point forward.

Netflix's gritty drama series The Waterfront might be about the Buckley family, but the opening scene takes us to a ship featuring The Vampire Diaries alums Matthew Davis and Zach Roerig getting held a gunpoint. Curtis (Davis) and Troy (Roerig) are both knocked out, wrapped in a large fishing net, and thrown overboard the ship. Before they're tossed over, one of them begs for their lives, but it's no use. This will come back to haunt the Buckleys... and it does very, very quickly!

The next morning, Cane Buckley (Jake Weary) anxiously text messages Curtis and Troy but receives no response. He tries to put his concerns aside while having dinner with his daughter Savannah (Billie Roy) and wife Peyton (Danielle Campbell). He rushes out the door of their luxury North Carolina home and arrives at the site of a shipwreck.

'Trial by Fire' True Crime Drama Starring Laura Dern Streaming on Netflix
Image
Edward Zwick's biographical crime drama Trial by Fire has found a second life on Netflix. The 2018 film tells the heart-wrenching story of Cameron Todd Willingham (portrayed by Jack O'Connell), a real-life man who was convicted and executed for the arson-related homicide of his three young daughters. Alongside O'Connell, Trial by Fire stars Laura Dern as Elizabeth Gilbert, a French teacher and playwright who, after becoming pen pals and meeting with Willingham, becomes one of his advocates.

Based on a 2009 article by renowned author and journalist David Grann, Trial by Fire explores the doubts surrounding Willingham's guilt and the efforts to prove his innocence. Gilbert becomes so involved in his case she begins to uncover evidence that challenges his conviction.

Trial by Fire premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in 2018 and landed in theaters the following year. The film didn't impress at the box office and earned mixed reviews from...

'Thunderbolts*' Star Hannah John-Kamen Explains Ghost's Return
Image
As well as bringing back MCU favorites like Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Yolena Belova (Florence Pugh), and Red Guardian (David Harbour), and introducing an incredibly powerful new character to the franchise, Sentry (Lewis Pullman), Thunderbolts* is also redeeming one of the McU's worst villains. Hannah John-Kamen is returning as Ghost, after her lukewarm debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Ghost was another in a long line of Marvel's underwhelming villain problems (which plagued the franchise during its early days). But Ghost is back, and is far different in Thunderbolts* than her first outing.

Speaking to The Manila Times, John-Kamen explained how Ghost will be vastly different in Thunderbolts*. In Ant-Man and the Wasp, Ghost attempted to steal Hank Pym's research, as her fading body needed quantum energy to survive. John-Kamen explained that Ghost has overcome the issue in Thunderbolts*, and is looking for a new purpose. The actress said:

"The last time you saw her,...

David Harbour Confirms Lewis Pullman's Bob is Sentry in 'Thunderbolts*'
Image
Oh, David Harbour. Never change. The Stranger Things star is set to make his MCU return as Red Guardian in the upcoming Thunderbolts*. The film's promotion includes several mysteries most notably, what does the asterisk mean? While Harbour and the cast, have maintained that mystery, the actor just let slip the worst kept secret in the MCU.

Sentry is in Thunderbolts*. We already knew it, you already knew it, your mom who asks if Batman is one of those Marvel things knew it. But, Marvel have still tried to keep it a secret. Speaking at D23 Brazil (via ComicBookMovie.com), David Harbour accidentally "revealed," the true identity of Bob, played by Lewis Pullman, confirming that he will be Sentry. When asked about Bob's relationship with the rest of the team, Harbour said, "I don't think he knows what to make of that. I mean, again, we'll have to see how...

Sebastian Stan Calls for Steve Rogers & Black Widow MCU Prequel Movies
Image
While the screenwriting rule that "flashbacks should be avoided at all costs" still holds relatively true, it doesn't count when Sebastian Stan pitches two incredible ideas for MCU prequel movies. Stan has been a long-standing figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first playing Bucky Barnes in Captain America: The First Avenger. Since then, he has been a Hydra assassin (who reportedly shot JFK), a recluse in Wakanda, and partnered with Sam Wilson as he reluctantly took on the role of Captain America in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. While Bucky's MCU future looks strong, as he rounds out the line-up of the new anti-hero team, Thunderbolts*, Stan is even more interested in his character's past.

Appearing at Comic Con Liverpool (via Comic Basis), Sebastian Stan was asked about the MCU prequel movies he'd love to see. While prequels, sequels, and spin-offs are three major buzzwords that tend to upset audiences,...

Brothers Stars Peter Dinklage & Josh Brolin Reveal Why They Made a Comedy
Image
Prime Video's Brothers is not the movie fans expect Josh Brolin or Peter Dinklage to make. The two actors are very much known for their serious roles in some of the biggest films and TV of all time. Academy Award nominee Brolin's credits include playing Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and starring in Jonah Hex, while Dinklage is a fan-favorite from HBO's Game of Thrones and Tubi's grim Western The Thicket. So what possessed the two of them to make an outrageous comedy?

Cbr spoke to the two actors about how they'd wanted to work together on a project before Brothers. They also discussed why they wanted their first collaboration to be a comedy, and what they consider the highlights of the movie. Plus, why do they consider all of the characters in the film to be "extreme"?

Cbr: The two of you had wanted to find something to do together.

Brendan Fraser's Performance in Brothers Is His Funniest in 30 Years
Image
Quick Links Brendan Fraser Has Always Been an Underrated Comedic Actor Brendan Fraser Gives His Best Comedic Performance Yet in Prime's Brothers

Brendan Fraser has had a fascinating and, at times, tragic career trajectory since his first feature film appearance in 1992's Encino Man. Brendan Fraser thrived in the '90s and was looking to become a big star, appearing in fan-pleasing comedies such as Airheads (1994) and action films like The Mummy (1999). However, the 2000s and 2010s saw significant challenges for the actor on both a personal and professional level, with many of his movies falling short of expectations, health issues, and blacklisting after being sexually assaulted (People).

Despite Fraser's problems within the industry and personal struggles, the actor has since seen a resurgence in popularity. This was brought on by his innate skills as a performer, yet his charms as a person have certainly gone a long way...

Josh Brolin & Peter Dinklage's Brothers is Amazon Prime's Top Streaming Movie
Image
Prime Videos new action comedy, Brothers, has debuted at the top of the Prime Video chart. Starring Josh Brolin, Peter Dinklage, and Glenn Close, the movie sees the three former Marvel actors on screen together for the first time, but hasnt exactly been pulling in reviews that match the caliber of its stars from either critics or viewers.

Like many new streaming releases, Brothers has very easily found a way to the top of Prime Videos movie chart, overtaking crime drama Killer Heat and the steamy Zendaya-led hit Challengers. The film is a road trip movie that finds going-straight criminal Moke Munger (Brolin) and his wayward brother Jady (Dinklage) looking for the biggest score of their lives. However, nothing is going to be that simple and chaos ensues as the pair attempt to avoid being arrested, shot, or beaten to death by the tongue of their overbearing mother (Close). While...

Brothers Review | Josh Brolin & Peter Dinklage's Raunchy Crime Comedy
Image
Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage lead an all-star cast of Hollywood's finest in a raunchy crime comedy with big laughs. Brothers makes zero effort to be taken seriously. It is unabashedly naughty slapstick with zany characters acting stupidly as they continuously pursue larcenous schemes. There's an attempt at warmth with a family reconciliation subplot, but it's just filler to serve the film's overall comedic intent. Check your brain at the door for fun, mindless entertainment. You're also guaranteed to never look at an orangutan the same way again.

Brothers opens in the past with hellion teen twins Moke (Brooks Indergard) and Jady (Jonathan Aidan Cockrell) trying to blow open an old safe in front of their trailer park home. Their hillbilly relatives hoot and holler as the boys predictably cause disaster. A car races up as the smoke clears. Their mother, Cath (Jen Landon), and her gunslinger boyfriend Glenn (Joshua Mikel), who the boys idolize,...

Brothers Review: Josh Brolin & Peter Dinklage's Inferior Twins Riff Is Frustratingly Dull
Image
It should be impossible to look at Brothers and not make a parallel with Ivan Reitman's Twins (1988), because of the differences between its lead actors, Peter Dinklage and Josh Brolin. But there are far more similarities than that: there's criminality, a debt-chasing villain, sharp flashes of violence, and a road trip to reconnect with an absent mother. There's also the actual difference between the brothers: who they are inside.

The subtlety of Reitman's Twins was not in mining the comedy potential of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito's physical appearances as much as their different backgrounds. Mercifully, Brothers follows a similar trend, avoiding making cheap jokes to explore the sensibility clash between the delightfully named Jady (Dinklage) and Moke (Brolin). That shouldn't really come as a surprise to anyone who saw Barbakow's Palm Springs (itself incessantly likened to Groundhog Day).

15 Great Horror Movies That Were Never Released In Theaters
Image
While it can be a special experience to witness a truly terrifying horror movie in theaters, there were several fantastic scary movies that never made it to the big screen. While the advent of the internet means many horror movies come straight to streaming, there were also plenty of excellent straight-to-dvd or even straight-to-vhs horror movies from years gone by. These often low-budget releases didnt have to pander to box office expectations and, in some cases, were able to be more ambitious and unique as a result.

Some of the best non-theatrically released movies were in the horror genre, as incredible horror movies were often produced with very little funding or support from major studios. In some cases, direct-to-video sequels even outdid their theatrical predecessors and gained cult followings among horror fans in the years since their release. These incredible non-theatrical horror movies proved that filmmakers dont need to get...

Manhunt TV Review
Image
Plot: Based on the Edgar Award-winning non-fiction book from author James L. Swanson, “Manhunt” is a conspiracy thriller about one of the best known but least understood crimes in history, the astonishing story of the hunt for John Wilkes Booth in the aftermath of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.

Review: The life and untimely death of Abraham Lincoln have been fodder for film and television since the invention of the medium. Before that, books and stage plays told the story of the President who ended the Civil War, abolished slavery, and died unceremoniously. But, in all of the tales of Honest Abe and his killer, John Wilkes Booth, few have chronicled the tumultuous aftermath between Ford’s Theater and the capture of those who perpetrated the heinous murder. Aside from Robert Redford’s The Conspirator, which focused on the trial of Booth’s accomplices, we have never gotten a full retelling of the events.

‘They Cloned Tyrone’ (2023) Movie on Netflix: Thriller, Comedy, and Engaging Dialogues
Image
‘They Cloned Tyrone‘ is directed by Juel Taylor and stars John Boyega, Teyonah Parris, and Jamie Foxx.

This comedy blends absurd humor and government conspiracies, relying heavily on the charisma of its main trio.

And you know what? They deliver, especially Jamie Foxx.

Plot

A drug dealer, a pimp, and a prostitute stumble upon a government conspiracy to manipulate social behavior.

Movie Review

A tribute to 70s cinema in the purest “Pulp” style. This movie could have easily become a forgettable parody, but instead, it asserts its worth through visual elements.

They Cloned Tyrone

No, it’s not “art-house cinema” nor a film for niche audiences. It’s a highly entertaining comedy with extravagant dialogues that, through surrealism and farcical situations, reflects on more serious matters while maintaining a comedic tone without delving into social criticism.

Above all, it’s a very enjoyable film that owes much to the excellent performances of the actors and,...

‘Malum’ and ‘Last Shift’: Companion Films Forged in the Fires of Hell
Image
The following contains major spoilers for Last Shift (2014) and Malum (2023).

Nothing divides the horror community like a remake. For decades fans have debated the merits of cinematic retellings of our most beloved horror films with strong arguments on either side of the equation. The trend exploded in the early 2000s with Platinum Dunes leading the charge to remake or reboot nearly every iconic title available. Recent years have seen the rise of legacy sequels; a curious hybrid that simultaneously continues the original story and (hopefully) takes the franchise in a new direction. Enter Malum. Anthony Diblasi’s 2023 gore-fest is an expanded reimagining of his own breakout film Last Shift. Released in 2014, this haunting cult horror follows rookie police officer Jessica Loren (Juliana Harkavy) whose first shift on the job goes terrifyingly wrong.

Co-written by Diblasi and Scott Poiley, Last Shift is an atmospheric nightmare with most of its terror coming...

‘Unhuman’ Review (Amazon Prime)
Image
Stars: Brianne Tju, Ali Gallo, Benjamin Wadsworth, Peter Giles, Lo Graham, Uriah Shelton, Drew Scheid, Joshua Mikel, C.J. LeBlanc | Written by Marcus Dunstan, Patrick Melton | Directed by Marcus Dunstan

Unhuman begins with title cards proclaiming it ”A Blumhouse Afterschool Special” and “Presented by the Student Teach Division (Std)”. That was the last thing I was expecting from a film by director Marcus Dunstan and his long-time co-writer Patrick Melton. While the three Feast films had their share of humour the duo are better known for more serious fare such as several of the later Saw films as well as The Collector and its sequel, both of which Dunstan also directed.

And it does begin like an Afterschool Special, Ever goes from dealing with her overprotective mother to being picked up by her best friend Tamra (Ali Gallo; Before I Go) who nearly hits Randall on their way to school. But...

Butler, whose previous credits include films like '300' and the popular 'Has Fallen' franchise, plays the role of John Garrity alongside 'Deadpool' famed actress Morena Baccarin, as his estranged wife Allison, who along with their young son Nathan embark on a perilous journey to their only hope for sanctuary.

Greenland Trailer Puts Gerard Butler on a Collision Course with a Killer Comet
Image
STX Films has revealed the first trailer for Greenland. The upcoming disaster flick stars Gerard Butler in the once-semi-popular sub-genre of "asteroids striking the Earth" movies. 1998 famously brought both Deep Impact and Armageddon our way. Butler is re-teaming with director Ric Roman Waugh, as the two recently collaborated on Angel Has Fallen. Based on this first trailer, it looks like we're in for something action-packed yet a little different from Butler.

The trailer opens up with the image of a happy family. Gerard Butler has a beautiful home in an upper-middle-class neighborhood and cares for his wife and son. The people of Earth are collectively fixated on a comet that is passing by our planet, with supposedly small chunks expected to impact without harm. That proves to be untrue as these fragments are extremely deadly and are set to cause mass devastation in a matter of days. A bunker in...

Watch: Gerard Butler Tries To Cancel The Apocalypse In Greenland Trailer
Image
Gerard Butler has done it all at this point. He’s saved Aaron Eckhart’s President of the United States on more than one occasion thanks to Olympus Has Fallen and its sequel, London Has Fallen, battled Persians in 300 and even faced off against a storm straight out of the Old Testament in Geostorm. And for his next effort, the actor will once more find himself in familiar territory, as he’s set to feature in a disaster thriller titled Greenland.

Directed by Ric Roman Waugh, it sees a family fighting for survival as a planet-killing comet heads towards Earth. Also starring Morena Baccarin, Roger Dale Floyd, Scott Glenn, David Denman, Hope Davis, Andrew Bachelor and Joshua Mikel, it’s hardly the most original premise for a movie, but you can get a new look at it thanks to the trailer up above, which sees Butler doing what he does...

“The sky is on fire,” Gerard Butler’s young son says in the first trailer for “Greenland,” a disaster thriller in which Butler, along with the rest of humanity, tries to escape a massive comet that threatens to make all life on Earth extinct.

Underground bunkers there are rumored to protect people from impact when a massive comet will collide with the planet in a matter of hours.

And as he races against the clock, we get to see Butler driving a pickup truck as he hopes to avoid small fragments of the comet that are raining down all around him and causing havoc.

Wherever he ends up in those much-anticipated Walking Dead theatrical movies, though, it’s safe to assume the chopper’s pilot, Jadis Aka Anne, will return as well. Actress Pollyanna McIntosh isn’t ready to confirm her involvement with the project just yet, but she has teased a little bit about the first spinoff film.

While virtually taking part in GalaxyCon Live, McIntosh – who joined the show as the leader of the Scavengers in season 7 – heavily hinted that she’ll be back for the movies, but stopped short of saying it out loud.

“I may or may not be doing a Walking Dead film that Andy is involved in, playing Rick. Let’s see what happens,” McIntosh said. “We have to know what happens beyond the helicopter.

First Trailer for Sci-Fi Drama 'Only' with Leslie Odom Jr & Freida Pinto
"I'm not trying to control you, I'm trying to protect you." Vertical Entertainment has released an official trailer for an indie sci-fi drama titled Only, the second feature film from up-and-coming filmmaker Takashi Doscher (of Still previously). This originally premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, and arrives in theaters next month. After a comet releases a mysterious virus that begins to kill all the women in the world, a couple's relationship is severely tested. They hide out (from both the illness and the savages who hunt the remaining women) in their over-sterilized apartment, until they must venture out into the wilderness once again. Starring Leslie Odom Jr. & Freida Pinto, along with Chandler Riggs, Jayson Warner Smith, Joshua Mikel, Mark Ashworth, and Tia Hendricks. Not an original idea, but perhaps the film is good. Here's the first official trailer for Takashi Doscher's Only, direct from Vertical's YouTube: After...

Tribeca Sci-Fi Romancer ‘Only’ With Freida Pinto & Leslie Odom Jr To Hit Theaters In Vertical Deal
Exclusive: Vertical Entertainment has acquired the North American and UK rights to Only, the Takashi Doscher-directed sci-fi movie starring Freida Pinto and Leslie Odom Jr that had its world premiere earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival. A day-and-date release is planned for the first quarter of 2020 for the pic, which is produced and financed by Swiss Army Man outfit Tadmor.

The Doscher-penned script questions the lengths we will go to protect the ones we love. When a mysterious disease threatens the global population of females, Will (Odom) is determined to keep his partner, Eva (Pinto), safe from the disease, the government and the bounty hunters searching for the few women still alive. Soon, however, the independent Eva realizes she cannot sit idle and let men decide her fate. The Walking Dead’s Chandler Riggs, Jayson Warner Smith and Joshua Mikel also star.

Jack O'Connell in Trailer for 'Trial by Fire' from Director Edward Zwick
"There's no arson, there's no crime!" Roadside Attractions has debuted an official trailer for a true story drama titled Trial by Fire, the latest film from acclaimed director Edward Zwick. This premiered at the Telluride Film Festival last year, but not at any other fests. Trial by Fire tells the tragic and controversial story of Cameron Todd Willingham, who was executed in Texas for killing his three children after scientific evidence and expert testimony bolstering his claims of innocence were suppressed. It's an upsetting, moving story being told here by some incredibly talented actors. Jack O'Connell stars as Cameron, who looks a lot like Anton Yelchin in this, and the cast includes Laura Dern as a woman who fights for his freedom, plus Emily Meade, McKinley Belcher III, Chris Coy, Joshua Mikel, Jason Douglas, Jeff Perry, and Jade Pettyjohn. Well, this looks pretty damn good, with O'Connell giving yet another stellar performance.

‘Black Lightning 2×04: Translucent Freak’ Review
Stars: Cress Williams, China Anne McClain, Nafessa Williams, Christine Adams, James Remar, Marvin Jones III, Damon Gupton | Developed by Salim Akil

After the first “good” episode of the season last week, Black Lightning returns this week with another solid episode… The Pierce family is enjoying a nice, normal event in the life of their daughter, Jennifer’s homecoming dance. The tranquility is interrupted by Khalil/Painkiller, invades the Pierce residence and after Khalil subdues the entire Pierce family, minus Jennifer, a fight breaks out with Jennifer holding her own against him. Unfortunately the whole scene is nothing more than an imaginary training exercise from Perenna in an attempt to get Jennifer to control her emotions and her powers. That’s a shame too because I liked the idea of Khalil taking the fight to the Pierce family.

After being arrested last week, Tobias Whale finds himself being interrogated at the...

Andrew Lincoln in The Walking Dead (2010)
‘The Walking Dead’ episode 14 recap: Survivors of the war try to heal in ‘Still Gotta Mean Something’
Andrew Lincoln in The Walking Dead (2010)
After an action packed episode last week, “The Walking Dead” Season 8 turned inward and quieter in Episode 14. The survivors of this “All Out War” struggle to cope with their losses and find peace with their emotions. Even so, “Still Gotta Mean Something” found time to include a zombie herd, a major moment with the mysterious helicopter, and a cryptic cliffhanger.

Sole Survivor – In a flashback to the junkyard massacre, we discover how Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) survived. Saviors hunt her down through stacks of garbage, and she quickly moves a body of a fallen comrade, laying down in his pool of blood and playing dead. She listens to the screams of her people as she lays motionless, waiting for the horror to be over. We later see Jadis in a secret bedroom. The space is immaculate and minimalist, fresh off the pages of an Ikea catalogue. She packs a suitcase, grabs the baseball bat Lucille,...

First Trailer for Action Film 'Vengeance: A Love Story' with Nicolas Cage
"Leave us alone!" FilmRise has debuted an official trailer for a new action film titled Vengeance: A Love Story, adapted from the Joyce Carol Oates novel titled Rape: A Love Story. The story is about a local police officer who goes for vengeance when a local gang rapes a woman. The criminals find a way to walk away free thanks to a hot shot lawyer, and so the detective takes matters into his own hands. Nicolas Cage stars as John Dromoor, with a cast including Anna Hutchison, Talitha Bateman, Deborah Kara Unger, Don Johnson, Joshua Mikel, Rocco Nugent, Joe Ochterbeck, Carter Burch, and Charlene Tilton. This looks like a generic vengeance movie, especially with Nicolas Cage, but who knows. It's also interesting they removed the word "rape" from any description of this film, but it's definitely a major part of the plot. Here's the first trailer (+ new poster) for Johnny Martin...

The Walking Dead season 7 episode 13 review: Bury Me Here

7.13 Bury Me Here

Throughout this season of The Walking Dead, there has only been one character amongst the Kingdom of King Ezekiel who has been trying to push the plot forward. Richard, who got beaten up by Daryl, who has tried to get Morgan to speak out in favour or war, who knows what happens when you sit around and wait for other people to do something when you need to be the one who does something, has been the only person in the Kingdom who has been rattling the saber. Of course, he's been foiled at every turn, and he's consistently had his decisions turn bad on him, but at least he's trying something.

Jason Sudeikis & Maisie Williams in First Trailer for 'The Book of Love'
"This is madness!" "No it's not!" Electric Entertainment has unveiled a trailer for an indie titled The Book of Love, formerly known as The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea when it first premiered. The story is about an introverted architect name Henry, played by Jason Sudeikis, who befriends a homeless teen and helps her build a boat. That sounds a bit weird, but obviously it's a quirky little indie drama about supporting the (crazy) dreams of others. Maisie Williams stars in this, with Jessica Biel, Mary Steenburgen, Paul Reiser, Orlando Jones and Joshua Mikel. This seems to be inspired a bit by the Kon-Tiki story, and it also reminds me of the real story of a girl who sailed around the world - as seen in Maidentrip. Check it out. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Bill Purple's The Book of Love, direct from Et's YouTube: Henry is an introverted architect.

‘Extraction’ DVD Review
Stars: Bruce Willis, Kellan Lutz, Gina Carano, D.B. Sweeney, Joshua Mikel, Steve Coulter, Dan Bilzerian, Heather Johansen, Roman Mitichyan, Christopher Rob Bowen, Rob Steinberg, Lydia Hull, Tyler Jon Olson | Written by Max Adams, Umair Aleem | Directed by Steven C. Miller

I have a love/hate relationship with Bruce Willis these days. On the one hand he stars in films I love such as the Red, G.I. Joe and The Expendables; and on the other he appears in direct to market dross like The Prince, Set-Up and Vice. Now don’t get me wrong, some of the direct to DVD titles Willis has appeared in are pretty good, Fire With Fire for example, but he’s been batting way below average on the Dtv front recently.

Extraction sees a ruthless terrorist group kidnap retired spy Leonard Turner (Bruce Willis; GI Joe: Retaliation, Die Hard, Armageddon), and threaten to unleash a...

Fly the Coop with Intruders: A Film Review
Tagline: "They Should Have Left Her Alone." Director: Adam Schindler. Writers: T.J. Cimfel and David White. Cast: Rory Culkin, Leticia Jimenez, Jack Kesy, Timothy T. McKinney, Joshua Mikel and Beth Riesgraf. Intruders is a new entry into the home invasion genre. Though, the film relies heavily on dramatic elements, too. From first time feature film director Adam Schindler, Intruders focuses on Anna's (Beth Riesgraf) dark history and a group of burglars. This material requires a serious tone and this causes the film to wade more into dramatic territory, compared to horror ones. Symbolism also makes an appearance, with Anna portrayed as a caged bird. Intruders is a captivating film, which will draw many viewers into its tense narrative. Anna is dealing with a dying brother. Conrad (Timothy T. McKinney) has been Anna's protector. Without him, she appears lost, almost like a little girl. Her tragic past, which is revealed late in the film,...

‘Intruders’ (2015) Film Review
By Jesse Miller

MoreHorror.com

Intruders takes the basic horror-thriller premise we all know about a girl trapped in her house with psychopaths and turns it on its head. What if the girl couldn’t escape from the house because she suffered from agoraphobia? And what if the intruders were about to get more than they bargained for?

Beth Riesgraf is Anna, the girl in question. Riesgraf turns in an amazing performance, which is equal parts vulnerable victim and fierce warrior. There are so many layers to the performance that the material might, in other hands, feel contrived or over the top. This isn’t the case with Miss Riesgraf, who operates at such a level that every wandering emotion – the fear, the shock and ultimately the defiance to her captors – is believable. It’s a hell of a performance.

She’s backed up by a strong supporting cast that features Rory Culkin,...
