The plot follows John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), a middle-aged man who, after a life-altering event, decides to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer. "We're dealing with some mighty devious folks over here." "Then you need to fight for what's ours." Sure. Amazon MGM Studios has revealed the official trailer for Sarah's Oil, a movie about a young millionaire from America's history. It's now set to open in theaters in November this fall. "What she discovers is about to change everything. Witness the powerful true story of Sarah Rector." Alas the film has a major religious aspect, described as "more than a good story: it's a family, a faith, a legacy." It's also produced by and stars Zachary Levi, unfortunately, whom no one seems to like much anymore. Sarah's Oil tells the remarkable true story of 11-year-old Sarah Rector, an African American girl born in Oklahoma Indian Territory in the early 1900s, who believes there is oil beneath the barren land she's allotted and whose faith is proven right. Sarah turns to her family,...

Villains make the world go round. What is a good story without one, and thankfully, ABC's The Rookie has a good story and several villains we all love to hate in equal measure. The show is currently in its off-season with filming on its upcoming eighth season currently ongoing and, with its premiere in 2026, will come the return of some of our most beloved characters. Season 7 ended with a couple of baddies getting loose of the cages that held them down. Matthew Glave’s Oscar Hutchinson and notorious villain, Monica Stevenson (Bridget Regan), both sprang loose using two different methods. With production underway, one of them has been quite active online, continually pleading innocence, of course.
While the legal powerhouse, Ada Wesley Evers (Shawn Ashmore), has consistently been on the right side of the law. Monica Stevens is on the opposite aisle as the corrupt attorney has consistently been on the radar of law enforcement.

Another season of The Rookie, another pesky Bailey issue, and yeah, another piece where I’m complaining about it.
Surely, you’ll let me know if I’m being too hard on this woman in the comments.
But alas, I cannot help it. The Rookie has this frustrating way of shoehorning Bailey into everything, and it’s hard to ignore!

The Rookie has been one of the most successful shows on network television, with its popularity continuing to increase with each subsequent season. Now, the eighth season of the series is set to premiere in January 2026, but that hasn't stopped fans from wanting more information about what to expect from the next batch of episodes. To promote the upcoming release of The Rookie Season 8, star Nathan Fillion and executive producer Alexi Hawley attended a panel at San Diego Comic-Con to discuss the international filming locations, as well as the challenges of filming in Los Angeles due to the show's growing popularity.
One of the most exciting announcements from The Rookie panel at Sdcc 2025 was that the Season 8 premiere had already been filmed, with the characters going on an overseas adventure to Prague. The Rookiecreator Alexi Hawley and star Nathan Fillion lay out some major details about the series' upcoming eighth season.
Speaking to TV Line, Hawley discussed the timeline for The Rookie Season 8 in regards to where it picks up following Season 7's explosive finale. "I don't think it'll be months later," Hawley said about when Season 8 will begin in the series' timeline. "I think it'll be fairly continuous. Not literally the next day, but within a fairly short amount of time... There's some time-sensitive stuff that we left hanging, that feels like we should [resolve soon] for the audience."
One of the major developments that took place at the end of The Rookie's seventh season was longtime villain Monica, portrayed by Bridget Regan, striking an immunity deal before heading off to Europe. At the outset of Season 8, Nathan Fillion's John Nolan is set to be in Prague chasing Monica down. Fillion himself...

The premise for the 2001 documentary series "Project Greenlight" was novel and fascinating. Prior to production, the showrunners (including longtime friends and frequent collaborators Matt Damon and Ben Affleck) solicited scripts from untested filmmakers and ambitious film students, holding a contest as to which one was the best and could be the most easily produced. Damon and Affleck received over 7,000 scripts before eventually winnowing them down to one, titled "Stolen Summer," written by Pete Jones. Jones then swiftly and, with the producers' aid, made "Stolen Summer" into a feature film. "Project Greenlight," over the course of its 12 episodes, detailed the making of "Stolen Summer" from the script selection to the final product. Jones' movie was produced for only $1.8 million, although it was not a box office success.
"Project Greenlight," which aired on HBO, was meant to encourage independent voices in cinema and continue the 1990s trend of low-budget, indie films regularly catching nationwide attention.

Police procedural The Rookie is one of several network TV series having their own panels at 2025's San Diego Comic-Con, and details coming out of the panel from ScreenRant's own Rachel Foertsch indicate just why showrunner Alexi Hawley decided to take the series to Prague in the season 8 premiere.
The news of taking The Rookie, a series focused on police officers in Los Angeles, California, to Prague in the Czech Republic came as a surprise to many fans of the show. Hawley, however, had a reason that contributed to his ambitious plans for the season 8 premiere of the series.
While on the Sdcc panel, Hawley spoke about needing to "repilot a bit" as The Rookie headed into its eighth season. He told the panel audience:

Season 8 of the ABC police procedural drama, The Rookie, is already in production which will be music to the ears of the show's dedicated audience. Unfortunately, the show will not return till 2026, but recent production updates should have fans excited about what lies ahead. The series is set in Los Angeles, which meant that the trip by the cast and crew to Prague, as revealed by Jenna Dewan, who plays firefighter Bailey Nune, was extremely exciting. This means that Season 8 of the series will begin in Europe, marking the first time The Rookie has gone abroad.
Exactly what takes the team to the Czech Republic remains under wraps for now. However, series star, Nathan Fillion, has opened up about having to film the police procedural in Prague. Fillion, who also plays Green Lantern in the upcoming DC movie, Superman, made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live to discuss the James Gunn-led effort.

Ahead of The Rookie Season 7 finale, showrunner Alexi Hawley promised TV Insider a cliffhanger that “hopefully will make people very excited about what’s going to happen in Season 8.” That was certainly true, with Monica (Bridget Regan) throwing everyone for a loop with her latest move. With filming underway on season 8, Jenna Dewan shared photos and videos on her Instagram page that revealed part of the show's cast and crew are filming in Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic.
It marks the first time that the police procedural is filming overseas. And even though The Rookie season 8 won't be back on ABC until sometime next year, we might have a better sense of what John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and Bailey Nune (Dewan) are doing abroad in the first place.
In a TikTok from justmimi__, the fan shares her excitement about meeting Fillion in Prague. But a closer look at what's happening in the background reveals that John and Bailey are with the recurring antagonist Monica Stevens (played by Bridget Regan), and they could be arresting her.

One of ABC's biggest shows right now is the police procedural drama, The Rookie, which follows Nathan Fillion‘s John Nolan as he becomes the oldest rookie in the LAPD when he opts to change careers. A hugely successful show, all seems set for the series to expand with another spin-off potentially coming to the fore. According to Deadline, an order pilot for a spin-off titled The Rookie North from the original series’ creator, Alexi Hawley, “has been gaining momentum.” It was first reported in December 2024, that The Rookie was potentially poised for another spin-off with ABC, 20th Television, and Lionsgate Television developing.
Besides the title reveal, it was also revealed that the proposed offshoot is working towards the casting of the lead, with “a handful of known actors … approached for the role.” Other details about the spin-off were also shared as it is believed to be similar to the Fillion's original series.

ABC’s The Rookie is not your average police procedural. First airing in 2018, the show follows John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), a 40-year-old man who becomes the oldest rookie in the LAPD. Inspired by a real-life story, the series mixes crime-solving drama with the challenges of late-in-life career reinvention. Over the course of seven seasons, The Rookie has evolved from Nolan’s rookie journey into a wider ensemble-driven narrative, diving into partnerships, department politics, and personal lives across the LAPD.
Created by Alexi Hawley (Castle), the series has been consistent with its blend of character-driven drama and procedural beats. From standoffs and stakeouts to romantic entanglements and internal affairs investigations, each season builds on the last, expanding the emotional depth and range of its characters. With Season 8 officially greenlit, there’s renewed interest in where the story is headed and who’s returning.

The Chenford romance is one of, if not, the most beloved relationships in the long-running police procedural, The Rookie. While Bailey (Jenna Dewan) and John Nolan's (Nathan Fillion) marriage has its own appeal, the dynamic between Lucy Chen (Melissa O'Neil) and Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) has seen fans of the show embark on a roller-coaster ride for a number of seasons now. By the time Season 7 ended, the couple had reunited romantically after their breakup in Season 6, and Richard T. Jones, who plays Sergeant Grey, has teased how this might affect the couple's relationship with their superior.
Grey had always been on the side of Chen, and the glee and pride were exceedingly evident when he presented Chen with news of her promotion. The officer had also cultivated a close relationship with Bradford, so when he received word the pair were casually seeing each other again, it threw him off.

Season 7 of The Rookie was packed with many subplots to keep audiences engaged. The return of Jason Wyler (Steve Kazee), Bailey's (Jenna Dewan) abusive and criminal ex-husband, meant that for a time period, John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and his wife were caught in the eye of a violent storm. Among this and other subplots, the writers and showrunner Alexi Hawley also had to craft out some space for Chenford's romance to be explored.

Matthew Glave’s Oscar Hutchinson ended the Season 7 finale of The Rookie in the wind despite the best efforts of Officer John Nolan (Nathan Fillion). Spanning over half a dozen seasons, The Rookie has introduced several side characters and villains who have, in their time as part of the ABC procedural, added to the show's value. Glave's Oscar has been a recurring villain and, despite the assumption that he had been bagged, he ultimately finished the season beyond the reach of the LAPD. Showrunner Alexi Hawley was quizzed on why this particular villain had persisted, and it would seem like the actor's ability on screen is a huge factor.
In The Rookie Season 7 finale, Oscar takes Fillion's Nolan captive with Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox) on his tail and coming to John's rescue. Oscar would end up making his escape in a helicopter right before Nyla could wrap her fingers around him.

The Rookie Season 7 has ended its run and in setting up its eighth season, big villains like Monica Stevenson (Bridget Regan) and Oscar Hutchinson (Matthew Glave) were released. While that poses significant threats on various levels to the LAPD officers at Mid-Wilshire, some audience members would be more concerned with the state of the relationship between Lucy Chen (Melissa O'Neil) and Tim Bradford (Eric Winter). While the pair had slowly worked their way back to each other over the course of the season, Chenford ended the season still not officially a couple. Despite Tim's heartfelt speech at the end, that relationship still hangs in the balance as Lucy heard none of it, being fast asleep. So, what does Season 8 hold for the couple?

By the end of the episode, Lucy Chen (Melissa O'Neil) and Tim Bradford's (Eric Winter) relationship, Chenford, were still not officially a couple. “The Rookie” Season 7 came to a close Tuesday night with an action-packed finale that, in classic “Rookie” fashion, left us with a big cliffhanger as we head into Season 8.
Back from her big international escape at the end of Season 6, lawyer-turned-baddie Monica (Bridget Regan) strutted back into the lives of the Mid-Wilshire crew with moments to spare in the Season 7 finale — now with immunity, after she leveraged highly-classified intel to make a deal.
Before we got to the big cliffhanger, Nolan came to life-or-death blows with Oscar (Matthew Glave) after the escaped convict abducted him. They both managed to make it out alive thanks to some quick work by Nyla (Mekia Cox), who recruited a kid with a drone to save the day, but not before taking heavy fire from Oscar’s ride — a helicopter that rained down gunfire while shepherding the longtime antagonist out of the law’s grasp once again.

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about the Season 7 finale of ABC’s The Rookie.
Chenford is (almost) back together. After a season of post-breakup heartache, casual hookups and truth serum-induced confessions, The Rookie‘s fan favorite couple took a giant step to reconciliation in the finale, which only physical exhaustion prevented from completion.
Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) and Tim (Eric Winter) faced one last obstacle after she became his peer by passing the Sergeant exam — working on opposite schedules as she was assigned the night shift. Both needed some encouragement from friends but finally got together. Tim cooked Lucy breakfast after her shift and poured his heart out in a speech asking her to move in with him to no response as Lucy had quickly dozed off. As Tim said to himself while covering Lucy with a blanket, “To be continued.”

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Rookie Season 7 finale “The Good, the Bad, and the Oscar.”] Well, the title of The Rookie Season 7 finale certainly is apt. In fact, you can break down the major parts of the episode in those three categories. The good: Chenford is so close to getting back together. Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) arrives home exhausted from working the night shift — the Dream Team? Cops who park their cars and take naps — to find Tim (Eric Winter) cooking for her. He’s talking about them getting back together and taking next steps (moving in together!) only for her to fall asleep. The Oscar: Matthew Glave does return as the villain and even kidnaps Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and threatens to kill him, but Nyla (Mekia Cox) comes to his rescue, with the help of a teen and his drone. Oscar flees. And the bad? Well, that’s Monica (Bridget Regan), who’s revealed...

John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) knows something is seriously wrong whenever Skip Tracer Randy (Flula Borg) drops by on The Rookie. It's been a while since the bounty hunter has been on the show, but he returns in Tuesday's episode, and as usual, something has gone wrong. "The team helps Skip Tracer Randy when his new love interest is kidnapped. Meanwhile, Angela (Alyssa Diaz) and Nyla (Mekia Cox) enlist their moms to help catch a con artist, and Wesley is threatened to drop a case," reads the logline for The Rookie Season 7, Episode 17, "Mutiny and the Bounty." ABC released a sneak peek of the episode airing on May 6, which features another weird connection to Nolan, like in Abigail's (Madeleine Coghlan) case.
Skip Tracer Randy comes bearing news. "I'm in love!" he tells Nolan. But that's something mundane that most people go through. However, Nolan is flabbergasted to learn that Randy's...

The Rookie brought back Liam Glasser (Seth Gable) in Season 7, Episode 15, "A Deadly Secret," as documentarians revisited Westview, the condemned hospital where he had sharpened his serial killer teeth. It was revealed that someone had been deliberately using some illegal drugs for unsanctioned experiments, which affected some people. One of Abigail's (Madeleine Coghlan) final interviews included Glasser, who made a strong impression that he would appeal his case, citing the drugs as his defense. The development felt like a classic move by The Rookie, where it saves its villains for the future, and when asked about it, showrunner Alexi Hawley told TV Insider Glasser could return down the line. However, "Not this season," he said. "I think potentially going into Season 8. I mean, he’s such a great actor and such a great character, and we have not really ever taken anything to trial before on our show because...

911 had a wild episode that once more proves Bridget Regan has become TV’s go-to casting for a wicked villainess!
Caution: This article contains mild Spoilers for 911 season 8, episodes 14 & 15
911’s big two-parter “Sick Day/Lab Rats” had the 118 racing to stop a fire at a bio-lab. It was the work of a top scientist named Moira Blake, a genius who was a bit too obsessed with her own fame. That had her breaking the lab rules testing a new virus without authorization and was so fired.
Moira stole the virus with the intention of selling it to a medical corporation. Her plan was to let the virus get out, become an outbreak, then a pandemic, then sell the antidote for it. As Buck put it, “No one wins a Nobel Prize for creating a virus, but they would for stopping it.” That she was willing to kill...

911 just opted for a shocking character death. Now the question is how this will affect the 118 and beyond!
Caution: This article contains Spoilers for 911 Season 8, episode 15, “Lab Rats”
911 is no stranger to huge events that put the lives of the characters in danger. Yet, amazingly, they have gone eight seasons without killing off a major character. Sadly, that streak ended with “Lab Rats.”
This thrilling conclusion to a two-parter had most of the squad trapped in a bio-lab after a renegade scientist (Bridget Regan) set off a fire while stealing a deadly virus she hoped to sell and then become famous for “developing” the cure for it.
While Chimney was exposed to the virus, Athena and Buck raced to find that scientist for the antidote. It was touch and go, but in the end, they succeeded; Chimney was saved, an injured Hen raced out, and all seemed right…...

The second part of 9-1-1's two-part contagion arc concludes tonight with Episode 15, "Lab Rats." Several members of the 118 are still stuck in the lab from hell, and time is running out quickly. "Athena (Angela Bassett) and Buck (Oliver Stark) are in a race against time to rescue the rest of the 118 following the fire in the biolab," reads the episode's official logline. The situation births an unlikely team-up as Athena and Buck work together to save the people they love. Under normal circumstances, a team-up between Athena and Buck would be a recipe for disaster (at least for Athena), but they are of a singular mind here. A sneak peek of the episode (via Entertainment Weekly) previews this duo as they try to circumnavigate some restrictions that the army has put up, restrictions that could see Chimney's (Kenneth Choi) life sacrificed.

The Rookie Season 7, Episode 14, "Mad About Murder," introduced a new storyline for Tim Bradford (Eric Winter). A hacker sent him a message, which spawned an investigation into the dark web, uncovering a killing spree in the city. However, the show did not close the arc properly since the hacker was never caught. Showrunner Alexi Hawley told Screen Rant that leaving the arc open is intentional, since they might need it in the future. "I think that's one of those breadcrumbs that, when the time is right, we'll bring back around. I love planting those seeds, and finding actors who come in to do a part [where] you're like, 'Oh God, we can't lose them.' Many of our great characters over the years were [found that way,]," he said, teasing a significant arc once the mysterious role was cast. Hawley talked about other instances where the show has fallen back on open arcs, saying:...

ABC’s The Rookie Season 7 has been delivering on several fronts this season, with engrossing storylines, well-crafted character arcs, and some much-needed romance along the way. The procedural's March 25 episode, titled “Speed,” followed how John (Nathan Fillion) and Celina (Lisseth Chavez) were in a hostage situation, while the rest of the station worked to assist despite having other fires to put out. The episode has been confirmed as having drawn in the procedural's largest audience of the season — in several seasons, in fact. With three days of cross-platform viewing, the episode hit season highs in both total viewers (8.25 million) and adults 18-49 (2.24 million).
The performance of the episode, Speed, is not one to be sniffed at, as it returns the show to hits it hasn't attained in quite some time. The episode's total of 8.25 million viewers is the most the show has amassed after three days since January 2023, during its fifth season.
