‘Platonic’ Creators Break Down That ‘Jeopardy!’ Crossover: Ken Jennings Was ‘Totally Game to Try Anything’
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “Platonic” Season 2, Episode 5.

In this week’s episode of “Platonic,” Luke Macfarlane’s Charlie gets the opportunity of his dreams when he is selected to compete on “Jeopardy!,” subbing out the Apple TV+ show’s typical Los Angeles backdrop for the set of the legendary game show.

“There was no backup to ‘Jeopardy!'” co-creator Nick Stoller told TheWrap. “It had to be a skill-driven game show, and that basically starts and ends with ‘Jeopardy!'”

Since “Platonic” and “Jeopardy!” are both produced by Sony Pictures Television, orchestrating a crossover episode was a relatively light lift, with the “Jeopardy!” producers and host Ken Jennings on board for the collaboration.

Is ‘Platonic’ on Apple TV+ Renewed for Season 3?
Image
Platonic, Seth Rogen’s first collaboration with Apple TV+, has not been renewed for Season 3 officially. Boasting a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 100%, Season 2 is just as hilarious as the first one, and fans are already wondering if there will be a third season.

In January 2025, a Redditor claimed that, according to the WGA, Platonic Season 3 is in the works. However, that does not guarantee a third season being greenlit. In an interview with People, Rogen, whose performance in The Studio earned him an Emmy nomination, expressed his interest in continuing the story, saying:

“I would love to keep doing the show. It’s lovely. And, I think, these characters...

Seth Rogen Says “People Are Very Fixated” On Seeing Romance In ‘Platonic’ Because Of “Precedent” Set By ‘Friends’: “I Get Why”
Image
Platonic star and executive producer Seth Rogen said he understands why viewers are expecting romance between his character and that of Rose Byrne’s in the Apple TV+ comedy.

While on Late Night with Seth Meyers recently, the multi-hyphenate acknowledged he gets the fan fixation because of the “precedent” set by other shows like seminal sitcom Friends.

“People are very fixated on this idea that we will one day get together,” the actor-cum-writer said. “And I get why, honestly. Like, we grew up with a show called Friends, and they all f—ed each other. Every friend f—ed every other friend.”

Meyers agreed, joking, “No one went unf—ed.”

“No friend will go unf—ed,” Rogen added.

“That was the original title,” Meyers continued.

Rogen riffed, “F— Friends,” adding that the famed capuchin monkey featured in the series (in the episode “The One With the Monkey”) also probably had...

Seth Rogen's Other Apple TV+ Show Is A Must-Watch For Fans Of The Studio
Image
Two years ago, when the Apple TV+ buddy comedy series "Platonic" debuted, it felt like a refreshingly amusing take on a non-romantic relationship between a man and a woman. I say that because married couple Francesca Delbanco and Nicholas Stoller's TV show had literally no intention whatsoever to give in to an overused and tired trope in the rom-com/dramedy genre, which "Platonic" seemed to fall into at first. By the end of the premiere episode, though, it had become crystal clear that Will and Sylvia ("Neighbors" co-stars Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne) — two former college friends who reunite midlife after a falling out — will never ever be a couple. The lack of that romantic spark (or any kind of physical attraction) upfront was a much-welcome relief and intriguing premise to build on. There's a lot more to extract from the hilarious duo's chaotic, quirky, and at times destructive...

‘Platonic’ Creators on Will’s Revelation and the Origins of That Aquatic Wet Dream Sequence
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers from “The Bachelor Party,” Season 2, Episode 3 of “Platonic,” now streaming on Apple TV+.

After ending Season 1 of “Platonic” with Will (Seth Rogen)’s engagement to Jenna (Rachel Rosenbloom), Season 2 began in the days leading up to their wedding. With engagement celebrations hosted by Will’s best friend, Sylvia (Rose Byrne), the two women don’t particularly see eye-to-eye until they go out to dinner with one another. After it appears that the duo are beginning to hit it off as friends, Jenna deliberately insults Sylvia by saying she means nothing to Jenna, leaving Sylvia in a state of shock and confusion.

“The Bachelor Party” follows the aftermath of Jenna’s comment to Sylvia, and the realization that Will and Jenna have different outlooks on the sexual aspects of their relationship. After meeting up with Will and Sylvia’s old college...

The One Romance Trope ‘Platonic’ Season 2 Refuses to Touch
Image
Platonic Season 2 refuses to touch one of its highly talked-about angles, including Will and Sylvia’s love story. The show explores the story of its second season from Will’s perspective, portrayed by Seth Rogen. But it leaves the viewers hanging as to whether the Apple TV+ show will ever, in its run, present the two’s love story or be true to the title, Platonic.

In an interview with The Wrap (published July 31), the programme creator and writer, Francesca Delbanco said,

“We read a lot about how to keep your marriage healthy, your romantic relationships, and relationship with your family, but we all know friendship is important.”

To this, her co-creator/co-writer/co-director/co-ep and Irl husband, Nicholas Stoller, quoted,

“It’s led us to find interesting stuff to say over these two seasons that hasn’t been in a lot of things for that very reason.”

Their talk...

Why Platonic Season 2 Undoes Will And Sylvia's Happy Endings
Image
Platonic's first season may have ended on a positive note for its main characters, but the second season's premiere brings back the chaos, and the reason for shaking things up in the writer's room has been revealed. At the end of Platonic's debut season, Will (Seth Rogen) and Sylvia (Rose Byrne) are living in separate cities, but they’re both happy.

While Sylvia and Will's friendship is strong when Platonic season 1 concludes, things feel rockier at the beginning of season 2. Sylvia is planning Will's wedding to Jenna, but Will is having cold feet. Sylvia seems unhappy, and she tries to push her friend into going through with his wedding so she doesn't lose out on a job.

During an interview with ScreenRant, Platonic co-creator Francesca Delbanco discussed why she and Nicholas Stoller felt the need to make things messier for the character in Platonic when things sort of...

‘Platonic’ Is Just What You’re Looking for
Image
After many noble but failed attempts, the world will finally, rightly, spend an entire year praising Rose Byrne. That start-to-finish continuity comes with a minor caveat, since the acclaimed performance that kicked off 2025 is the same one likely to see it out, but that’s just the beauty of a Sundance premiere with enough Oscar buzz to command a fall release: The Park City crowd gets to fawn all over “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You” nine months before everyone else can join the chorus.

In a way, 2025’s minor haul and major lift mimic Byrne’s steady rise in the Hollywood ranks. While Ellen Parsons’ senior associates (aka “Damages” fans) have known for nearly two decades there aren’t 12 comparable actors who could form a jury of her peers, it’s taken an expansive repertoire of roles to prime our favorite Aussie actor for her big year. 'Platonic' Season 2's Rotten Tomatoes Score Is No Laughing Matter
Image
After two long years, Apple TV's hit comedy Platonic has finally returned to the small screen, and it's brought with it an early Rotten Tomatoes score that signals Season 2 is even better than the first go around. Premiering back in May 2023, Platonic stars Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne, and was created by Francesca Delbanco and Nicholas Stoller, the same duo that brought fans the Netflix series Friends from College.

Hitting Rotten Tomatoes with a perfect 100% rating from critics, the first two episodes of Platonic Season 2 debut today, Aug, 6, with the remaining eight airing weekly until its conclusion on Oct. 1. Richard Roeper from RogerEbert.com calls it a "sweet and light" series that makes "the perfect late summer viewing," while Katie Doll from Crb echoes those sentiments to add:

"Platonic is candidly harmless in the way that viewers can either fully invest in it or put it on in the background...

‘Platonic’ Reminds You That Big-Screen Comedy Has Migrated to TV
Image
Part of the promotional campaign for The Naked Gun legacy sequel was a trailer spoofing charity promotional videos, as star Liam Neeson pleaded with viewers to buy a ticket and help save the entire business of movie comedies. The joke sadly wasn’t too far off from the truth. Theatrical comedies have been having a rougher go since Covid than most movie genres, as viewers are opting to wait to watch them on streaming, believing they don’t need to be seen on the big screen. This ignores the fact...

‘Platonic’ Season 2 Episodes 1-2 Recap: Why Was Jenna Mean To Sylvia?
Image
Francesca Delbanco and Nicholas Stoller’s comedy-drama series, Platonic, starring Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen, returns to Apple TV with its second season. You already know they are an epic duo, and every time they get into a sticky situation, it turns into a laughter riot. In season 1, after their temporary separation, best friends Will and Sylvia found their way back to each other after Will’s divorce. Sylvia had never liked Will’s ex-wife, and that was the sole reason they drifted apart. Sylvia decided to reconnect, and once again they were inseparable. And just like their college days, they relied heavily on each other to fix problems that they knew would be too silly for the rest of the world to care about. In the final episode of the first season, Will announced his engagement to Jenna, and Sylvia, the new wedding planner in town, was tasked with...

Will Sylvia & Will End Up Together in ‘Platonic’? Cast & Creators Weigh In
Image
More than two years after the Season 1 finale of Platonic, the show is returning to Apple TV+. Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen return as Sylvia and Will, former best friends who reconnected amid Will’s divorce. The new season will see the besties as they deal with “new midlife hurdles.” The premise of Season 1 stayed true to the show’s title in that Will and Sylvia were never more than friends. But will that be the case going forward? “We feel like we’re kind of honor-bound to try to figure out a show about a platonic friendship,” Francesca Delbanco, who created the show with her husband, Nick Stoller, tells TV Insider. “I love ‘will they/won’t they’ kind of shows and movies. It’s one of my favorite genres. But it’s just not what we’re doing on this one.” Delbanco points out that there have been...

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne Explain Why Hollywood Doesn’t Delve Into ‘Platonic’ Relationships That Often
Image
It’s been two years, but “Platonic’s” Sylvia and Will are just as out of love as ever – as they should be. That’s because Francesca Delbanco and Nicholas Stoller’s Apple TV+ comedy has always been about the ‘will they/won’t they’-less friendship between Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne’s characters.

“It’s quite strange to think that this show is quietly groundbreaking because of the subject matter. Because it’s about a very relatable thing, but it’s not discussed, and it’s brought to light in a very fun and funny way,” Byrne said at the show’s Season 2 premiere at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles on Wednesday. “The show has a very light touch, it’s not heavy, it’s relatable and it’s heartfelt, and it is funny when you think, I don’t know many other shows that are about...

Chaos, comedy, and chemistry: Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne ready to take Apple TV+’s ‘Platonic’ to a new level in Season 2
Image
Seth Rogen is taking a timeout from promoting his Emmy-contending The Studio to moonlight on his other Apple TV+ comedy series.

Rogen and costar Rose Byrne headlined Wednesday's premiere of Season 2 of Platonic. The streamer transformed the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles into a celebration of the show, which follows Will (Rogen) and Sylvia (Byrne) as they rekindle their friendship later in life. The series abides by its title and shows what a non-romantic relationship can look like in adulthood, when partners, children and careers often take center stage.

Rogen says he's grateful for having two vastly different projects occupying his time. “To me, it does create a lovely balance,” he tells Gold Derby. “I love doing this type of comedy, which is a little more slice of life, a little more improvisationally based, and a little more casual in some ways. But to that point, it’s much more...

Why Seth Rogen Is Becoming the New Nicole Kidman Across TV and Film: ‘I’ve Always Been Proud of Having a Lot of Output’
Image
With a seemingly endless list of projects he’s appearing in or is involved with, Seth Rogen jokes he could be the new Nicole Kidman. “Put me on ‘Lioness’ now!” he says, laughing.

But don’t assume he’s feeling overworked. “I slept eight hours last night,” Rogen boasts. “I do like to work and I like to shoot. I especially love being on set. I do tend to make a lot of things and, and always have. I’ve always kind of been proud of having a lot of output.”

In October, Kidman explained her work ethic to me as well. “I can create more work for people. I can create jobs for people,” she said. “And also, I love it. I have the passion. I’ve just got to take care of my body. I wish I had superpowers because I would love to be everywhere.”

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne Hope to Complete the ‘Neighbors’ Reunion and Bring Zac Efron On ‘Platonic’
Image
Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne are back for the second season of their Apple TV+ comedy Platonic, following two best friends as they navigate mid-life hurdles.

The series was originally conceived as an anthology where the two stars would be replaced in future seasons, but after the success of the first they wanted to return; at the Los Angeles premiere on Wednesday, Rogen told The Hollywood Reporter, “As we were shooting the first season I was kind of pushing for [creators Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco] to brainstorm how it could continue and how to not replace us with other people, and thank god they listened.”

The series reunites Rogen and Byrne after they played a married couple in 2014’s Neighbors and its 2016 sequel, which were also both directed by Stoller. Asked if their other Neighbors co-star Zac Efron would ever pop up in the show, Byrne emphasized, “I don’t...

Platonic Season 2 Review — A Funnier, Sharper Return with Rogen and Byrne at Their Best
Image
I’m not one of those critics who feels compelled to praise Seth Rogen just for making a comedy. I found the first season of Platonic hard to watch. Why? Simply because the two lead characters are so incredibly insufferable—without being, frankly, all that funny. Which is surprising, coming from Rogen and the always-stellar Rose Byrne.

For one, the friendship in the first six or so episodes feels unbelievable, with little effort made to convince us that these two characters would be long-term friends. It’s as if the writers believe the only way men and women can be friends is if there’s no attraction, not that these two are incompatible as a platonic pair.

How the ‘Platonic’ Creators Blew Up Their Plans for an Anthology Series
Image
When Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco started working on the first season of Platonic, they thought they were writing an anthology series. The concept they originally pitched to Apple TV+ was built around one season that would follow Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne’s friendship, with subsequent seasons featuring entirely different stories and casts — like a period piece about women’s and men’s colleges becoming co-ed campuses in the 1970s and a work-wife/work-husband story. Then, about halfway through production of the first season, they realized they were having way too much fun with Rogen and Byrne to move on.

“They have such amazing chemistry together, and it was such a great experience, that we decided to ask them if they would be open to doing more, and they said yes,” Stoller tells THR. “And Apple, rightly so, felt like they were the show’s identity. I remember they said,...

What is Netflix’s Friends From College About?

Although the show did not appeal to the critics much, many Netflix subscribers seem to be on a completely different page as they are hooked on the show’s over the top humor and absurd friendships.

Seth Rogen And Rose Byrne Try to Grow Up in ‘Platonic’ Season Two Trailer
Image
Your favorite platonic besties are back. Today, Apple TV+’s comedy Platonic shared its new trailer for upcoming Season Two.

In the show’s new season, Will (Seth Rogen) and Sylvia (Rose Byrne) are still platonic best friends, but the pair’s decades-long, boisterous dynamic is threatened as Will enters a relationship. “Will and I always get screwy when he’s in a couple,” Sylvia tells her husband Charlie in the trailer.

Both Will and Sylvia are determined to not let that happen this time — but first, they must grow up a little.

'Platonic' Season 2 Trailer Reunites Best Friends Seth Rogen & Rose Byrne
Image
As the credits rolled on The Studio, Seth Rogen geared up to ride again with his ride-or-die Rose Byrne. Apple TV+ has now released a trailer for Platonic Season 2, bringing the rock-solid duo back to the small screen for more friendly banter and unhealthy co-dependency. It has been more than two years since audiences last caught up with Will and Sylvia, but rest assured, they are still the same chaotic – and absolutely platonic – pairing that people grew to know and love when the critically acclaimed comedy series first debuted back in 2023.

The trailer for Platonic Season 2 (shared below) sees Will and Sylvia attempt to "do normal adult stuff" while still playfully poking fun at one another and navigating all manner of midlife mayhem together. It looks like they will be put through the wringer trying to contend with various hurdles, which, according to the show's synopsis, include "work, weddings, and partners in crises.

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne Will Make You Laugh Out Loud in ‘Platonic’ Season 2 Trailer
Image
Your favorite platonic twosome is back.

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne make their long-awaited return as friends Will and Sylvia in a new trailer that dropped Thursday. It’s been two years since viewers last saw the Neighbors co-stars reuniting for the small screen on their critically acclaimed Apple comedy, which returns Aug. 6.

This time around, Will’s new relationship potentially threatens the 25-year unique friendship between Will and Sylvia that they repaired last season. Sylvia laments to her husband (Luke Macfarlane) that it would take way too long to replace Will, so they have to figure out how to make it work. They enter into “appropriate” adult behavior, like couples dinners with Will and his new girlfriend, in the heart-warming trailer (below) that also contains several laugh-out-loud moments of physical comedy.

The first two episodes of the 10-episode season release Aug. 6, followed by one episode weekly until Oct. 1.

In the new trailer, Sylvia (Byrne) and Will (Rogen) are the best of friends, which is making things weird between Will and his new fiancée, Jenna (Rachel Rosenbloom). Sylvia concludes that they need to do some "normal adult stuff," Naturally, nothing they're doing in the trailer is normal or adult: it includes an attempt to move a pressurized beer vat that sends Sylvia airborne, a...

5 One‑Season Comedies on Apple TV+ to Binge This Weekend
Image
Apple TV+’s sci-fi shows like Foundation and Severance are famous for their unrelenting plot twists and complex characters. However, the comedies of the streamer are not something to sneer at as well, especially when they’re led by heavyweights like Ted Lasso. But not many want to invest in a multi-season long comedy. After all, sometimes a short and sweet season is all one needs to get a few laughs before moving on.

Thankfully, Apple TV+ is a treasure trove of one-season laughter buckets that deliver a satisfying and funny story in a few episodes. So, if you are looking to cleanse your palate after heavy dramas with a satire on fame or perhaps with quirky workplace shenanigans, then this is the right place.

Apple TV+ is still relatively new in the streaming industry, and despite having made a name for themselves by producing quality content that people talk about to no end, the Apple-owned streaming service has produced some shows that don’t get talked about much, but not because they are bad, but because they are overlooked. On one hand, Apple TV+ has produced extremely popular shows like Ted Lasso and Severance; on the other hand, it has brilliant but nowhere near as popular shows like Drops of God and Slow Horses. That’s why we decided to compile a list of all the brilliant shows that have been overlooked by the masses.

Nicholas Stoller at an event for Cattivi vicini (2014)
Creators Francesca Delbanco and Nicholas Stoller, whose real-life partnership inspired the show’s central bond, indicated that filming wrapped earlier this year, with Delbanco telling Soap Central that production “neared completion” by spring 2025. Delbanco and Stoller have hinted that Season 2 will explore new dimensions of Will and Sylvia’s relationship, maintaining the “messed up” humor at the heart of their dynamic while shifting settings between Los Angeles and San Diego.

Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen return as Sylvia, a stay-at-home mother rediscovering her spontaneity, and Will, a recently divorced friend whose brewery venture provides both comic relief and poignant moments. They are joined by newcomers Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett in recurring roles, promising fresh chemistry alongside core cast members Luke Macfarlane, Tre Hale and Carla Gallo.

The Best New Streaming Comedy Of 2025 Hates AI As Much As You Do
Image
This article contains spoilers for "The Studio" episode 7, "Casting."

I try to avoid hyperbolic hot takes, but the more time goes on, the more I'm starting to think that Seth Rogen truly is one of the most brilliant comedians to ever do it. He broke into the mainstream in the 2000s thanks to projects like "Superbad" and "Knocked Up", but as the "Freaks and Geeks" alum has grown, his comedy has evolved to an incomparable level. He currently executive produces and stars on Francesca Delbanco & Nicholas Stoller's Apple TV+ series "Platonic," which very well might be the smartest show about disaster millennials failing to accept the realities of their societal roles as adults. But his true masterpiece is the cringe-comedy Hollywood satire "The Studio" (also on Apple TV+), co-created with frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg along with Alex Gregory, Peter Huyck, and Frida Perez.

‘The Studio’ Is Not Seth Rogen’s First Show on Apple TV+, This Rom-Com With 93% Rt Score Deserves a Second Look
Image
With The Studio winning hearts on Apple TV, one can’t help but wonder why Seth Rogen had stayed away from the platform before that! Well, that isn’t true, because before there was The Studio, there was the rom-com Platonic that Seth Rogen was a part of.

While The Studio is an out-and-out satire comedy that throws light on the realities of Hollywood in a hilarious way, Platonic was a beautiful romantic comedy that went by comparatively unnoticed. It first aired in 2023, and Seth Rogen was seen starring with the talented actress Rose Byrne.

The Romcom that slipped under the radar: Platonic

Before Matt Remick, the neurotic studio boss, came into existence, Seth Rogen was associated with Apple TV through this show. Despite having a stellar 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, many people seemed to have missed watching this show.

"I Made It More Darkly Comic": 'Animal Farm' Writer Teases the New Dynamic of Andy Serkis' Upcoming Film Adaption [Exclusive]
Image
After just releasing his new romantic-comedy film You're Cordially Invited at Prime Video, Nicholas Stoller still has a busy year ahead of him. Season 2 of Platonic, his hit Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen series with Francesca Delbanco, is set to return to Apple TV+ with more friendly humor later this year. But before that, he'll take a trip to Animal Farm, as Andy Serkis's much-anticipated adaptation of the timeless George Orwell novel finally releases. Stoller was in charge of penning the final script for the political satire, helping to finally get the project over the finish line after Serkis and Rupert Wyatt began crafting it years ago. It was a one-of-a-kind opportunity that let him work alongside an artist he respects greatly and give the 1945 novel a modern update with a new approach.

"Such a Different Process With Comedy": Rose Byrne Gives a Friendly Update About 'Platonic' Season 2 [Exclusive]
Image
It’s been nearly two years since the first season of the Apple TV+ series Platonic got friendly with viewers, and more than a year since the network revealed that the Francesca Delbanco and Nicholas Stoller-created series had been renewed for a second season. Since then, updates have been scarce, aside from news back in September that revealed the casting of Saturday Night Live alumni, Aidy Bryant, Beck Bennett, and Kyle Mooney. Thankfully, series star Rose Byrne was happy to drop some additional information about the comedy’s highly-anticipated return while chatting with Collider’s Steve Weintraub over the weekend at The Sundance Film Festival. The pair met up to discuss all things Byrne’s latest feature, the Mary Bronstein-helmed comedy-drama, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, when the Platonic co-lead spilled the tea about how everything was chugging along for the Apple TV+ series’ follow-up season.

Will Ferrell Reteaming With Nicholas Stoller, Amazon MGM Studios On Comedy ‘Judgment Day’
Image
Exclusive: Mere weeks after signing on to 20th Century Studios’ comedy Street Justice, Will Ferrell has found another new project in Judgment Day, a comedy in development at Amazon MGM Studios that Nicholas Stoller will direct from his own script.

Judgment Day follows a young convict fresh out of prison who takes a reality TV courtroom hostage, blaming the megalomaniac TV judge (Ferrell) for a past ruling that the convict feels ruined his life.

The project reunites Ferrell with Stoller and Amazon MGM on the heels of You’re Cordially Invited, an anticipated wedding comedy starring Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon, which premieres on Prime Video January 30.

Producers include Stoller for Stoller Global Solutions, as well as Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Alex Brown for Gloria Sanchez Productions.

As we were also first to report, Ferrell will likewise produce and star in Street Justice, playing a Dirty Harry type who goes about taking justice into his own hands.
