A maverick of the Malayalam New Wave, Aravindan was less interested in storytelling than in what lay between stories—the invisible tensions, buried emotions, and unresolved desires that shape human experience. And G. Aravindan’s “Chidambaram” (1985) stands as one of the most profound and philosophically resonant films to emerge from Indian parallel cinema. Based on a short story by C.V. Sreeraman, the film traces the tragic entanglements of three lives—Shankaran, Muniyandi, and Sivakami—against the quiet, unassuming backdrop of a government cattle farm located at the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border.

Kerala film director T V Chandran wins J C Daniel Award

Acclaimed film director T V Chandran has won J C Daniel Award, the highest film award of Kerala. The award carries a statute, a citation and five lakh rupees cash award. The selection jury was headed by ace director K P Kumaran, who himself has won J C Daniel Award last year, actor and director Revathy, actor and writer V K Sreeraman, and C Ajoy as member Secretary of Kerala state Chalachithra academy.

Chandran has directed 15 Malayalam movies which include ‘Ponthanmada’, ‘Danny’, ‘Kadhavasheshan’, ‘Susanna’ that left a mark in the Kerala tinsel world.

He has also directed two Tamil movies.

Most of his films are known for strong feminist characters.

T V Chandran who hails from Thalassery was a former officer with the Reserve Bank of India who had quit his job and entered into the world of cinema. He is now settled in Thiruvananthapuram.

He has won six national awards and ten state awards.

MollywoodChandran, known for his offbeat work in cinema, has won several awards and accolades over the years. ‘Ponthan Mada’, ‘Padam Onnu: Oru Vilapam’, and a trilogy circling the 2002 Gujarat riots are some of his known works.Filmmaker TV Chandran won the Jc Daniel Award for 2022 for his lifetime contribution towards Malayalam Cinema. The award, which is the highest honour bestowed by the Kerala government on those who work in films, carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and a memento. Minister for Culture Saji Cheriyan named TV Chandran as the winner in a press note on Saturday, July 29. Chandran is known for his often offbeat work in cinema, winning several awards and accolades over the past four decades. He won his first National Award for the Mammootty film Ponthan Mada, which also featured the Hindi actor Naseeruddin Shah.
