Highly respected producer worked on Joanna Hogg’s Archipelago and Sally El Hosaini’s My Brother the Devil.

British producer Gayle Griffiths has died following a battle with cancer. She was 49.

Griffiths, who died on Friday (Oct 23) in London, was perhaps best known for producing Joanna Hogg films Archipelago (2010) and Exhibition (2013), which both starred Tom Hiddleston, as well as urban drama My Brother The Devil (2012).

Sally El Hosani, director of My Brother The Devil, wrote on Facebook: “I can honestly say that the film wouldn’t have been what it was without her input and wisdom. She had real vision and believed in the film when many others in the industry didn’t. She was a fighter with a truly generous heart and empathy for the underdog.

“She was never one to make a fuss about her health and all through the filming of My Brother The Devil nobody would have guessed she was also having cancer...

Exclusive: Us sales outfit Visit Films has picked up rights to Locarno-bound drama.

Ryan Kampe’s Visit Films has picked up rights to writer-director Joanna Hogg’s Locarno entry Exhibition, starring Viv Albertine, Liam Gillick and features a cameo from regular collaborator Tom Hiddleston.

Hogg’s anticipated third feature after Archipelago and Unrelated is an intimate examination of a contemporary artist couple, whose living and working patterns are threatened by the imminent sale of their home.

Gayle Griffiths of Wild Horses Film Company produces the London-set drama. Artificial Eye releases in the UK. Backers include BFI Film Fund, BBC Films and Rooks Nest Entertainment.

Albertine is former guitarist of punk band The Slits. Hogg’s Unrelated picked up London’s Fipresci prize in 2007.

LONDON -- Kari Paljakka was awarded the Sutherland trophy as the director "of the most original and imaginative first feature" for his For The Living And The Dead as the curtain came down Thursday night on the Times BFI London Film Festival. Festival artistic director Sandra Hebron said, " 'For the Living and the Dead' offers a genuinely fresh approach to a taboo subject. Paljakka has created an intimate and unflinching portrait of a grieving family that is both humane and uplifting. This is a powerful and original film and a deserving winner of the BFI Sutherland Trophy." This year also saw the second Alfred Dunhill U.K. film talent award go to producer Gayle Griffiths.
