  • Queen were in an elevator when they found out "Bohemian Rhapsody" had topped the charts. They all jumped for joy and the elevator stopped. "We thought we would all suffocate in the damned lift," Freddie Mercury said.
  • More than 60 artists, journalists and music industry executives chose their performance at Live Aid (1985) to be the the winner of The World's Greatest Gigs (2005).
  • In January 2007, they were announced as the greatest British band of all time in a poll of more than 20,000 BBC Radio 2 listeners, beating The Beatles by 400 votes. Bands were judged on songwriting, lyrics, live performances, originality and showmanship.
  • In July 2012, Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" was voted the UK's Favourite Number One Single of all-time, beating 1200 other chart-toppers in the 60-year history of the UK charts.
  • Queen's last performance as a group with Freddie Mercury was at Knebworth Park, England, on August 9, 1986, with support from Beloius Some, Big Country and Status Quo.
  • Their video for "Bohemian Rhapsody" (1975) is often incorrectly cited as the first pop video. It was not the first but it was such a phenomenal success that it subsequently became a normal practice for pop artists to make videos to promote their singles.
  • The acoustic guitar solo on their song "Innuendo" was played by Steve Howe, best known for being the guitarist of the progressive rock band Yes, who were one of Queen's contemporaries in the 1970s and an early influence on them.
  • They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2001).
  • Their two albums "A Night at the Opera" (1975) and "A Day at the Races" (1976) were titles based upon the films with The Marx Brothers of the same titles.
  • Queen was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording at 6356 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California.
  • Their iconic music video "Bohemian Rhapsody" was completed in just four hours at a cost of £3,500, ultimately saving the band from having to declare bankruptcy.
  • They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame (2006).
  • The members of the classic lineup were Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon. Following Mercury's death from AIDS in 1991, they have performed with singers including Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert.
  • Their worldwide album sales are estimated to have exceeded 150 million and some estimates put it at 300 million.
  • Queen are the first Western band to be officially tolerated in Iran after a greatest hits album featuring "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "I Want to Break Free" was released there in August 2004. This is especially ironic as lead singer Freddie Mercury is considered by most of the world to be one of popular music's greatest gay icons and homosexuality is illegal in Iran.
  • They were ranked #13 on VH1's 100 Greatest Hard Rock Artists and #33 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Rock & Roll.
  • The promotional video of Queen: I Want to Break Free (1984) proved extremely controversial. It was lauded in many countries (such as the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and some of Western Europe) as comical and widely recognized as a camp but tongue in cheek homage to a famous long running British television soap opera. However it caused much outrage in parts of the U.S. and MTV refused to show it due to the band being seen in drag and concern that conservative audiences would be offended.
  • The 1982 single release of 'Las Palabras De Amor (The Words Of Love)' was only a minor hit when released in the UK. Therefore the band never bothered commissioning a proper promotional video for it and instead have used the VTR of their live appearance on the BBC TV music show 'Top of the Pops' for any subsequent video compilations of their releases.
