New Trailer for ‘The Long Walk’ Previews a Brutal Stephen King Adaptation Hitting Theaters This Fall
Lionsgate has just released the official trailer for The Long Walk, a new dystopian horror film based on Stephen King’s 1979 novel, written under his pen name Richard Bachman. The film is directed by Francis Lawrence, known for The Hunger Games series, and it’s set to hit U.S. theaters on September 12, 2025.
The story takes place in a grim future where the U.S. is controlled by a brutal regime. Every year, a group of teenage boys is forced to take part in a walking contest. It sounds simple, but there’s a deadly twist: if they drop below three miles per hour for too long, they’re killed. The walk only ends when one boy is left standing.
The cast is packed with rising stars and familiar faces. Cooper Hoffman plays the lead role of Raymond Garraty. David Jonsson takes on the role of Peter McVries, and Mark Hamill...

The first trailer for The Long Walk has just been released during Sdcc, giving fans a chilling look at the upcoming Stephen King adaptation that’s set to hit theaters on September 12, 2025. Directed by Francis Lawrence, the film is based on King’s 1979 novel written under his pen name Richard Bachman.
It’s a tense, dystopian horror story set in a version of the U.S. where freedom is gone and survival is everything.
The movie follows a group of teenage boys who are forced to take part in a brutal walking contest. The rules are simple, but deadly, you must keep walking at a speed of at least three miles per hour, and if you slow down too much or stop, you’re executed on the spot.

Lionsgate’s The Long Walk marched into Hall H with a mission: to make a tough subject matter too enticing to resist.
The Comic-Con panel not only revealed the newest trailer for the adaptation of the Stephen King novel, that has at its heart a downer of a conceit, but it also showed the first 22 minutes of the movie. The story focuses on an annual contest in which 100 teen boys set out on the titular journey under the watchful eye of hard-driving army commander played by Mark Hamill. The walk ends with just a single survivor.
The assembled crowd of over 6,500 fans was given plenty of warning from the moderators that the some scenes may not be suited for all audiences, on top of the usual warnings of curse words. How intense was the open section? Well, the audience never truly found out because the scene showing the first death was blacked out.

"I don't have much to lose, but I have everything to gain – that's why I'm here." Dang, this looks fantastic! Lionsgate has marched out the second trailer for The Long Walk, an extremely intense new thriller from filmmakers Francis Lawrence & Jt Mollner about a dystopian America. Based on storyteller Stephen King’s first-written novel, and Francis Lawrence, director of The Hunger Games films, comes this grueling story of boys out on a never-ending walk. In the near future, where America has become a police state, one hundred boys are selected to enter an annual contest where the winner will be awarded whatever he wants for the rest of his life. The brutal game is simple - maintain a steady walking pace of three miles per hour without stopping. Three warnings, and you're out – forever. It's win or die, on this walk. Starring Cooper Hoffman + David Jonsson (from Alien: Romulus), Garrett Wareing,...

The first 22 minutes of the Stephen King adaptation “The Long Walk” debuted at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, following the debut of the new red-band trailer and a panel featuring the cast, including Mark Hamill, David Jonsson (“Alien: Romulus”), Tut Nyuot and Garrett Wareing (“Manifest”).
The film is adapted from King’s 1979 novel (first written when he was 19!), set in an authoritarian America in which 50 young adult men join a televised contest to walk continuously at a pace of at least three miles per hour — or they’ll be killed. Hamill plays a man only known as the Major, the military commander who oversees the Walk and gives the walkers their literal marching orders. In the panel, Hamill said that when director Francis Lawrence approached him about playing the part, it immediately evoked his teenage years in Japan, where he went to school next to a U.S. military base.

The movie adaptation of Stephen King's The Long Walk will reportedly not be toned down for the big screen, staying true to the King of Horror's bleak foray into dystopian fiction. Published in 1979 under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, The Long Walk has been in development for decades, and is finally making it to movie theaters on Sept. 11, 2025.
The Long Walk depicts a group of teenage boys who participate in the titular competition and must walk as long as they can, as they will be killed if they fail to keep pace; this goes on until there is only one left standing. Thus, it is certainly a dark and disturbing book, but this has not always remained the case with movies adapted from such source material.
However, while The Long Walk movie is not yet officially rated, it seems to be leaning towards an R rating. At the movie's panel...

The latest trailer for Stephen King’s “The Long Walk” has the 50 contestants struggling to find meaning for why they compete.
The film follows 50 boys from around the country who are selected (or volunteer) to compete in the annual Long Walk. The rules are simple: keep up a pace of 3 miles per hour and you’re good, slow down enough to get three warnings and you “punch your ticket” — aka, get killed. The killing happens right on the road as the rest of the contestants have to keep walking until there is only one left.
“I keep hoping that part gets easier,” Pete McVries (David Jonsson) says in Friday’s trailer after a kid is taken out. “That’s what I’m afraid of,” Ray Garraty (Cooper Hoffman) responds.
The Walk takes place in a vaguely dystopian version of America. Most things are as normal as expected, but the event...

It’s time for marching orders. Lionsgate dropped a new trailer for The Long Walk today during the pic’s Hall H San Diego Comic-Con presentation Friday. Author of the novel that inspired the film Stephen King introduced the clip via video message, alluding to the Vietnam War and drawing attention to how this story came out long before The Hunger Games and Squid Game.
“It’s got some hard bark on it,” King added of the adaptation.

At San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that Stephen King was very involved in the casting behind The Long Walk. The story is a dystopian novel that King originally published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. It focuses on the story of a group of boys made to participate in a competition called The Long Walk, where they must continuously walk or risk being shot.
Over the years, The Long Walk has gone through multiple adaptation attempts. First, Night of the Living Deaddirector George A. Romero was approached to direct a version of the book, but that never came to fruition. Over 15 years went by before the rights were secured by Frank Darabont in 2007.
Darabont's rights eventually lapsed when his project never came to fruition, and control over the story went to New Line Cinema in 2018. New Line even announced a director in 2019, marking the third attempt to make the film.

The Long Walkgets a set of overtly ominous character posters reminding audiences to "Walk Or Die."
As seen on the Upcoming Horror Movies, the upcoming feature film adaptation of Stephen King's The Long Walk has just received a whole set of character posters for nine members of the film's core cast. Each poster features its respective star standing just in front of the word "Walk," while the words "Or Die" dominate the foreground in front of them. Among the stars to receive this particular character poster treatment are Garrett Wareing, Jordan Gonzalez, Joshua Odjick, David Jonsson, Cooper Hoffman, Ben Wang, Charlie Plummer, Mark Hamill, and Roman Griffin Davis.
Based on King's 1979 novel of the same name, The Long Walkis directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by writer Jt Mollner. The Long Walk takes place in a dystopian version of the United States, wherein the ruling totalitarian regime submits...

Last year, an adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Long Walk (which was, like The Running Man and Thinner, published under the pen name Richard Bachman) went into production, with director Francis Lawrence, whose previous credits include Constantine, I Am Legend, Water for Elephants, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Parts 1 and 2, Red Sparrow, Slumberland, and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, at the helm. Lionsgate will be releasing the film on September 12th – and today, a batch of character posters have been unveiled! You can check them out at the bottom of this article.
An adaptation of The Long Walk has been trudging through development hell for decades. At one point, the rights were in the hands of Frank Darabont, who made the King adaptations The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and The Mist. Then the rights passed over to New Line Cinema,...

"Karate Kid: Legends" is a legacy sequel that bridges the gap between the most disparate corners of the franchise. The film follows O.G. star Daniel LuRusso (Ralph Macchio) and the sensei from the 2010 "Karate Kid" reboot, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), as they combine their veteran expertise in kung fu and karate to prepare young Li Fong (Ben Wang) for the ultimate martial arts competition. The film offers a prototypical "Karate Kid" story about a young underdog having to overcome the odds, and it's entertaining viewing if you're a fan of flicks of this ilk.
Unfortunately, "Karate Kid: Legends" wasn't a mammoth box office success, earning just $104 million on the back of a $45 million budget. This suggests that the millions of fans who discovered the property through Netflix's hugely successful "Cobra Kai" spin-off series weren't as excited about a new movie set in this universe. Karate Kid: Legends brought together multiple generations of fighters from across the world — and in this deleted scene released exclusively to Screen Rant, they all come together for family. The clip focuses on Victor Lipani's pizza shop in New York City, where Ben Wang's Li Fong regales everyone with a story of how Jackie Chan's Mr. Han and Ralph Macchio's Daniel faced off with O'Shea's men when they tried to attack Li during the Five Boroughs Tournament.
They're soon greeted by Li's mother Dr. Fong, who joins them for the impromptu evening at the restaurant. Dr. Fong is played by Ming-Na Wen, playing an important supporting role as the reason Li needs to move to New York City and serving as an emotional conflict for Li to confront.

Ashley Benson, Emily Alyn Lind, Madelaine Petsch and Sadie Stanley have been tapped for the lead roles in “Pretty Babies,” an indie female friendship drama written and directed by Tyler-Marie Evans, who makes her feature debut.
Set to enter production later this summer, the film follows two teenage girls who run away to Hollywood, chasing stardom, but their dreams lead them into prostitution, trapping them in the dark underbelly of the sex work industry as they travel from Texas to California.
“’Pretty Babies’ is a love letter to Old Hollywood. We’re pushing into something new with this script, and
that excitement has been palpable from the start, and something felt by every collaborator,” said Evans.
Christine Vachon from Killer Films is producing, alongside Jordan Wagner from Wagner Entertainment. Benson will produce. Amanda Larney of Killer Films is associate producing.
“When I first met Tyler-Marie, I knew immediately there was something special about her.

It's probably not a great sign when a franchise movie grosses less than a third at the box office than its predecessor, but that's unfortunately the fate that has befallen Sony's Karate Kid: Legends. Even as the studio enjoys the success of Danny Boyle's 28 Years Later, which is only a week old and already the highest-grossing installment of the series, Karate Kid: Legends is hobbling towards the finish line with a smaller haul. The movie didn't even come close to challenging the 2010 reboot starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. But ahead of its digital debut, the film passed its first (and what will likely be its final) global box office milestone.
With around $51 million each domestically and from overseas markets, the movie's cumulative global haul now stands at $102 million. The good news is that it costs only around $45 million to produce, which means that it's probably already profitable,...

Netflix’s Cobra Kai might have ended after 6 seasons, but that doesn’t mean the dojo doors are closed for good, especially not when there’s still so much untapped potential in the Karate Kid universe. We’re bound to see Daniel Larusso, Johnny Lawrence and, maybe even, Mr. Miyagi again somewhere down the line. Now, a new poster for a Netflix spin-off based on Mr Miyagi is making the rounds on social media, and fans are super hyped for the origin story. Now, before you get too hyped, let’s clear something up. No, Netflix hasn’t officially greenlit a Mr. Miyagi spinoff. The viral poster doing the rounds is total fan-made fakery. Yet that hasn’t stopped Cobra Kai fans from begging Netflix to make it. And maybe the idea isn’t as far-fetched as it sounds. Just a few weeks ago, actor Shiro Nobunaga revealed on social...

"Karate Kid: Legends" is a whole lot of movie. More specifically , this "Karate Kid" legacy sequel is two different movies awkwardly stitched together. Directed by John Entwistle, "Legends" serves as a sequel to both the 1984 "The Karate Kid" and the 2010 reboot/remake of the same name starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.
In "Legends," the new "karate kid" is not actually a complete underdog; in fact, he has a lot of experience in kung fu. Ben Wang stars as Li Fong, who moves from the big city to a smaller place, gets a crush on a girl, and makes an enemy out of her violent karate-enthusiast ex-boyfriend. Except, there's more to this movie than that, and that includes a bizarre subplot about Li coaching his new girlfriend's dad to utilize kung fu in a boxing match.
Of course, Li also enters a karate tournament himself because it wouldn't be a "Karate Kid" movie without one.

After Cobra Kai’s success, Karate Kid: Legends was supposed to be the movie that kept the franchise’s hype alive. It was the much-anticipated sixth installment, headlined by Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan, who reprised their fan-favorite roles in the movie. While everyone expected something refreshing like the Netflix series, Legends didn’t deliver a solid punch, and that has reflected in its box office numbers.
It felt so underwhelming that even Jaden Smith’s 2010 remake has emerged more successful among the two films. So, why did the multi-starrer feature fall behind? What could they have improved, and learned from Chan and Smith’s movie?

Karate Kid: Legends hits a crucial box office milestone in less than a month in theaters. The martial arts franchise has relaunched with its first movie installment since the 2010 reboot that starred Jackie Chan as Mr. Han. Following the six-season success of Cobra Kaion Netflix, Legends collides the worlds of Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Mr. Han, as they attempt to train the next karate kid, Li Fong (Ben Wang). The sequel debuted with a modest $21 million domestic opening and has since been slowly climbing the franchise's box office charts.
According to Deadline, Karate Kid: Legends has already passed the $95 million global milestone in less than a month. The sequel is expected to conclude the week with a $98.3 million global total, which consists of $49.3 million domestically and $48.8 million internationally. ‘Karate Kid: Legends’ Takes Down Jason Statham’s 48% Rotten Tomatoes Action Hit at Global Box Office
While the summer movie season has already delivered a string of hit movies, two heavy hitters have surprisingly fallen short of expectations. Joining From the World of John Wick: Ballerina on this list is Karate Kid: Legends, the latest installment in the long-running sports franchise. The movie serves as a legacy sequel of sorts to both the original series and the 2010 reboot starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. However, it has grossed less than a third of that movie so far, and is unlikely to generate much more as it finds itself being tackled by new competition week after week.

Karate Kid: Legends continues to ascend the franchise's box office rankings and is now nearing a major global milestone. Jeremiah Fraites, co-founder and songwriter of the Grammy-nominated alternative folk band The Lumineers, has composed the score for The Long Walk, Variety has learned.
Based on Stephen King‘ 1979 novel of the same name, The Long Walk is directed by Francis Lawrence and written by Jt Mollner (Strange Darling).
“Francis [Lawrence] and I had a really great initial phone call that helped inform what instrumentation we thought would work,” commented Fraites. “Strings and piano felt right in servicing the expected horror you’d find in Stephen King canon. The real challenge for me was going to be writing music that would properly represent the deep relationships these boys were forming while on this brutal walk.”

Can a movie be classified as both underwhelming at the box office and still successful? Karate Kid: Legendsrecently hit the $90 million mark at the worldwide box office, which means that it has now officially broken even, considering its reported budget of $45 million. It will also likely pass the coveted $100 million mark this weekend, cementing its status as a hit. But in comparison to its predecessor, the 2010 reboot The Karate Kid, it's a massive letdown. That movie made over $350 million globally, and featured an unusually restrained dramatic performance from the megastar Jackie Chan. He returned for Karate Kid: Legends, which has now overtaken several of his past movies.
Most recently, Karate Kid: Legends leaped past Chan's Shanghai Knights, the 2003 sequel to Shanghai Noon. Directed by David Dobkin, the movie made $88 million worldwide against a reported budget of $50 million. Shanghai Knights featured Owen Wilson alongside Chan, and received mixed reviews from critics.

Three-time Tony Award winner Billy Porter and eight-time Oscar nominee Glenn Close are the latest stars to sign on to The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Lionsgate announced Close will play Drusilla Sickle, the cruel escort to the District 12 Tributes. Porter is on board as Magno Stift, her estranged husband and the Tributes’ uninspired designer.
“Glenn Close is a dream Drusilla. She brings so much of her intellect and imagination to each role, creating characters who are unforgettable and iconic. I think Glenn and Francis [Lawrence] will have a ball bringing Drusilla from the page to the screen,” stated producer Nina Jacobson.
Jacobson had this to say about Billy Porter’s casting: “Billy is one of those rare performers who can dazzle and devastate in equal measure on stage and screen. He made an indelible impression on me...
