Production is underway on season two of the Netflix hit comedy-mystery A Man on the Inside, and it will feature a pair of new co-stars who happen to be Star Trek veterans. Dangerous fires continue to rage across parts of Los Angeles, putting lives and property at risk. Two late-night TV shows will halt production as a result of the disaster.

The fires in Los Angeles have been called the most destructive in the city's history. More than 1,000 structures have been destroyed due to the blaze. The fire has spanned over 15,000 acres in the Palisades.

In response, CBS has put production of After Midnight on hiatus. The late-night TV show films at the Paramount Pictures lot in Los Angeles. The Palisades fire is to the west and the Eaton fire isn't too far to the north.

A trickle is becoming a flood for Bluesky, the social media company that has seen spectacular growth since the presidential election. On Tuesday, the microblogging platform hit 20 million users, after averaging 1 million new users per day over the past five days.

According to a Nov. 13 post by Bluesky CEO Jay Graber, the site had 6 million users in late August, nearly 11 million in late October and hit 15 million users on Nov. 15. It added another 5 million users in just five days, with the explosive growth seen since Nov. 5, the day of the election, accelerating.

From the 1990s through the 2000s, it was common to see over-the-top character comedies set in pro sports. Dodgeball, Baseketball, and Semi-Pro helped define over a decade of sports films, each parodying the larger sports complex in turn. The Gutter — directed by Isaiah and Yassir Lester — takes aim at the environment around sports superstardom. At the same time, it features enough absurd and boisterous comedy that it delivers the laughs. While The Gutter runs out of steam occasionally, leaning too heavily into tropes when it does, the overall result is a surprisingly fun comedy.

The sports genre can tell every kind of story, from a heartwarming underdog's redemption to a swan song for an aging star or a comedic twist on the sport at hand. With Yassir and Isaiah Lester's The Gutter, the filmmaking duo attempt to strike a chord similar to the likes of the Farrelly brothers' Kingpin and Rick Famuyiwa's Dope, delivering broadly humorous jokes amid a tale of an unlikely bowling superstar. And while they do often find their own unique rhythm, the movie still often largely feels too familiar to fully stand out.

"Star Trek: Lower Decks" season 5, episode 3, "The Best Exotic Nanite Hotel," sees Lieutenant Boimler (Jack Quaid) assigned to a covert, potentially dangerous spy mission. He is to join Commander Ransom (Jerry O'Connell) and Lieutenant Commander Billups (Paul Scheer) on a mission to the Cosmic Duchess, an ultra-swanky, high-end resort-like cruise ship, floating gently through deep space. His assignment is to penetrate deep into the hotel to retrieve Admiral Milius (Toby Huss), a Starfleet officer who has gone Awol thanks to "a touch of vacation madness." The writers of "Lower Decks" missed an opportunity in not saying that he had been infected with Paradise Syndrome.

The Cosmic Duchess, however, is such a massive ship that it incorporates artificial recreations of every possible vacation-ready biome. There's a tropical beach biome, a skiing resort biome, and a water park biome.

The fifth and final season of Star Trek: Lower Decks is now underway on Paramount+. Ahead of the debut of the final season's third episode, Cbr can unveil a sneak peek clip.

The episode, dubbed "The Best Exotic Nanite Hotel," is set to debut on Oct. 31 following last week's double premiere of the first two episodes on Disney+. The episode, written by Stephanie Amante-Ritter and directed by Brandon Williams, will see the Lower Deckers "hunt nanites on a resort... in space," according to the synopsis. Cbr's sneak peek clip features Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid) learning about an "undercover mission" he'll be going on with Jack Ransom (Jerry O'Connell) and Andy Billups (Paul Scheer). Hacks, Fellow Travelers and Ava DuVernay’s feature film Origin were among the recipients of the 2024 Humanitas Prizes for television and film writers whose work “explores the human condition in a nuanced way.”

This year’s honors were announced and presented at the organization’s annual awards ceremony last night at the Avalon Hollywood. The event was emceed by June Diane Raphael and Paul Scheer.
