WWE’s women’s division has always been criticized, and a significant percentage of wrestling enthusiasts feel that women’s wrestling is not as entertaining as men’s. Much of this can be agreed upon, as World Wrestling Entertainment is on The Road to WrestleMania 41, with several storylines that fans are heavily invested in.

At the same time, when we look at the women’s section, things seem to lack the same build-up and big moments that will make fans look forward to their match. Thus, making fans hold a steadfast belief that women’s wrestling can never catch up to the fraction of greatness that the men’s division has achieved in the last decade.

However, Ted Dibiase does not agree with the stans, stating how the female wrestlers of today are staging performances that redeem the division and are giving hope for a brighter future.

Matt and Jeff Hardy proved that they are still the team to beat as they defeated Nathan Frazer and Axiom to retain the Tna Tag Team Title. The incredibly athletic offense from Fraxiom saw them hit their Spanish Fly/Phoenix Splash combo, but the veteran savvy of The Hardyz allowed them to stay in the matchup just long enough. Fraxiom’s attempt at a High Low backfired as Axiom accidentally hit Frazer, allowing Jeff to nail a Swanton Bomb to give them the win.

Cm Punk has been an evolutionary force in WWE. Whether in his early days or in the current ones, the involvement of Cm Punk brings out a massive craze in the fans and whatsoever rivalries he fights, it has been a glory to watch. Off late, he has been on a battle path with Seth Rollins and the feud simply keeps on garnering traction.

Punk’s journey in the WWE has been a long one and when he returned to the squared circle in Survivor Series: War Games 2023, there were quite a few unhappy faces. The Prodigy became increasingly frustrated by her inability to put Giulia away, and that anger didn’t serve her well as she miscalculated and was tossed off the top rope with a huge Double Underhook Superplex. Cora Jade came to ringside to help the champion, but Giulia kicked out of Pop Rox, rolled through the armbar, hit a huge Arrivederci knee...

The Nxt “New Year’s Evil” event on Jan. 7 drew the WWE developmental brand’s biggest TV viewership in over five years.

According to Nielsen data, “New Year’s Evil” averaged approximately 957,000 total viewers from 8-10 p.m. on The CW, with 341,000 viewers in the coveted adults 18-49 demographic. That is the best viewership for Nxt since September 2019, when it was airing on USA Network. It is also the best viewership for the show since it moved to The CW in October 2024, with the premiere on the broadcast network netting 895,000 viewers on Oct. 1.

“New Year’s Evil” originated from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Among the matches on the card, Giulia defeated Roxanne Perez for the Nxt women’s championship, Stephanie Vaquer defeated Cora Jade, Kelani Jordan, and Lola Vice for the Nxt women’s North American championship, and Oba Femi defeated Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe to win the Nxt championship for the first time.

The Young Og proved he’s much more than just being bouncy as he took down Wes Lee in an incredible one-on-one match. Lee nearly had the match won but his underhanded tactics were spotted by the referee as he tried to put his feet on the ropes for leverage. The Cardiac Kid followed that up with a Cardiac Kick, but not even that was enough to keep his opponent down. Evans dug down deep and put Lee on his back with a clean superkick, followed by a huge twisting splash off the top rope to win the match and gain some much-needed momentum.

Nxt Deadline begins to wind down the WWE calendar year in explosive style in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Oba Femi returned to win the first Iron Survivor challenge of the evening, narrowly escaping a Je'von Evans pin to seal the victory. This sets up a huge feud with Nxt Champion Trick Williams, who successfully defended his title against Ridge Holland. Nathan Frazer and Axiom also retained their titles in an astonishing match with No Quarter Catch Crew's Myles Borne & Tavion Heights.

Lola Vice defeated Jaida Parker in a personal and physical Nxt Underground match, but the Match of the Night came with the Women's Iron Survivor match. One of the most must-see matches in the second half of WWE's calendar, Giulia emerged as the winner and new Number One Contender for Roxanne Perez's Women's Nxt Championship, but it was a night in which everybody came out looking like they had world-class potential.
