The Creator Of Netflix's Hit Action Series Weak Hero Already Has A New Must-Watch K-Drama Out
Image
The second season of "Weak Hero" was easily one of 2025's most anticipated premieres when it comes to K-dramas or South Korean scripted television shows. Adapting the webtoon of the same name by Seopass and Kim Jin-seok, the show has been lauded internationally for its sharp writing, strong performances, and unflinching action set pieces. On top of that, the adaptation hails from creative director Han Jun-hee, a prolific filmmaker and screenwriter in South Korea's rapidly growing entertainment industry. But for those looking for something at the same level of quality as "Weak Hero," albeit completely tonally different, Han Jun-hee also created the popular K-drama "Tastefully Yours."

A romantic comedy set in the world of Seoul's restaurant scene, the story revolves around two very different restaurateurs in the South Korean capital. Protagonist Han Beom-woo (Kang Ha-neul) is an executive director for a major food conglomerate and runs a Michelin-starred restaurant in Seoul.

A Normal Family Review: Four Performances in a Pressure Cooker
Image
There’s a certain performance to family gatherings, a kind of unspoken agreement to keep things pleasant. Director Hur Jin-ho’s A Normal Family understands this social contract intimately, and its opening movements are dedicated to showing us the polished surface just before it shatters.

The film, whose title drips with irony, introduces us to two brothers living starkly different lives. Jae-wan is a high-powered, wealthy lawyer, the kind of man who smooths over ugly problems for his even wealthier clients. His younger brother, Jae-gyu, is a pediatrician, a man whose life is built around a rigid code of ethics. The film wastes no time in placing them on opposing sides of a crisis.

A shocking act of road rage leaves one man dead and his daughter fighting for her life in Jae-gyu’s hospital, while the perpetrator turns to Jae-wan for legal protection. This initial setup is perfectly calibrated,...

Weak Hero Class 2 Review: When Bullying Becomes Battlefield
Image
Season 2 of Weak Hero Class 2 picks up immediately after Yeon Si‑eun’s forced transfer to Eunjang High, where rumor and reputation erect invisible walls around him. Once a top student, he now faces an entrenched hierarchy of teenage delinquency known as “The Union,” a self‑policed syndicate that thrives on borrowed authority and administrative neglect. Si‑eun’s gamble to stay invisible unravels the moment he witnesses a classmate’s public humiliation—his calculated intervention signals another round in a schoolyard war that mirrors broader struggles over power and voice.

The series marries Si‑eun’s internal monologue—measured, almost clinical—with staccato bursts of violence, underscoring the tension between introspection and action. Rooted in its Korean webtoon origins, this Netflix installment flaunts higher production values: spacious corridors convey isolation, while dynamic camera work amplifies each fight’s tactical choreography. Yet the show never loses sight of its social...

The Best Asian Dramas Of 2023
Image
Following what happened in the US during the last decade or so, the quality of Asian dramas has skyrocketed during the last few years, with a significant surge of talent from cinema towards streaming platforms, with Korea definitely paving the way in the regard, and Japan following. The result is quite impressive to watch, since, frequently, the level of these titles is equal to the one of movies.

Without further ado, here are 20 Asian dramas in random order proving the fact in the most eloquent fashion.

1. Cigarette Girl by Kamila Andini

“Cigarette Girl” is not a typical story of two broken hearts crushed by unfortunate circumstances, a trope over-used in the soap opera format. It also has a bit of history to offer alongside a basic insight into the women's hardships in Indonesia not such long time ago. “Your duty is to clean the house and find yourself a husband...

Series Review: The Deal (2023) by Lee Jung-gon
Image
It has become evident for quite some time that the creative powers of the Korean movie industry are turning towards dramas instead of movies, where more popularity for local content seems to lie. The result of this trend is definitely bad for cinema, but at the same time, has led the quality of dramas to rather high levels. “The Deal” , a new series currently streaming on Wavve in South Korea, friDay Video in Taiwan and Viki in selected regions is a testament to this fact.

The Deal is screening at Red Sea Film Festival

Based on the webtoon of the same name by Woonam 20, the story revolves around two young men. Lee Joon-sung, a former high school soccer star, does not play the sport anymore, owes money, and his life is, in general, a mess. Song Jae-hyo graduated from the same high school and is now a medical student, who does face expulsion,...
