Will Colleen Hoover’s Regretting You Release on Netflix After Blake Lively’s It Ends With Us Drama?
Image
After the dramatic release of It Ends With Us, Colleen Hoover’s another novel is set to hit the screens, Regretting You. Based on Hoover’s 2019 novel of the same name and directed by Josh Boone, the film went into production earlier this year with a star-studded cast including Allison Williams, McKenna Grace, Dave Franco, and Scott Eastwood.

It is set to hit the theatres this fall. However, unlike It Ends With Us, which was made available on Netflix four months after its theatrical release under the distribution deal between Sony Pictures and the streamer, Regretting You may not follow the same path. The film adaptation, written by Susan McMartin, went into production under Paramount Pictures. And it also does not streaming release date so far.

Allison Williams and McKenna Grace Bring Colleen Hoover’s Heartfelt Drama to Life

Cult Classic Slasher Movie Loses Streaming Home After Legacy Sequel Underwhelms in Theaters
Image
As its sequel scares up decent but underwhelming box office returns, I Know What You Did Last Summerwon't be online for the whole summer. The cult classic slasher movie is set to leave Netflix imminently.

Per Collider, I Know What You Did Last Summer will leave Netflix on Aug. 1, becoming one of several feature-length titles to depart from the streaming giant that day. The film hit Netflix on New Year's Day (Jan. 1) and found success on the streamer, including when the sequel hit theaters earlier this month.

Starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe, I Know What You Did Last Summer was penned by Scream creator Kevin Williamson and helmed by eventual Venom director Jim Gillespie. The film kicked off a longstanding franchise based on Lois Duncan's titular 1973 novel.

Hewitt, Prinze Jr., Gellar and Phillippe portray four teenage friends in North Carolina coming...

Him: Jordan Peele-produced sports horror film unveils a creepy new image
Image
Back in 2022, Get Out, Us, and Nope writer/director Jordan Peele‘s production company Monkeypaw Productions acquired the genre film pitch Goat from writers Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, the plan being that Peele would be producing Goat as part of Monkeypaw’s overall deal with Universal Pictures. The sports-related horror project made its way through production under the title Him last year, aiming for a September 19 theatrical release. A teaser trailer was unveiled a few months ago (you can watch that in the embed above), and now Empire has unveiled a new image from the film. You can check it out at the bottom of this article.

Justin Tipping – who made his feature directorial debut with the 2016 drama Kicks – directed the film and did some work on the script, with lead roles going to Marlon Wayans (Scary Movie), Tyriq Withers (The Game), and Julia Fox (Uncut Gems).

Him has the following synopsis: Cameron Cade,...

‘Him’ – New Image from Jordan Peele-Produced Sports Horror Movie Gets the Horns
Image
The new horror movie from Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, Him will release in theaters on September 19, and Empire Online has shared a brand new image this week.

The director of Him is not Jordan Peele but rather Justin Tipping (Kicks), and Tipping explains to Empire Online that while the film may initially seem like a typical sports movie, it ultimately devolves until a full-throated nightmare of an experience.

Tipping tells the outlet, “My instinct was to set it up in a way that it feels like we’re in Friday Night Lights, or a Gatorade or Nike ad. We’re rooting for the kid who just needs to unlock one thing to take it to the next level. And then we subvert the expectations and let it become Nosferatu or Ex Machina.”

“And let it evolve or devolve — depending on your sensibilities — into something it’s not,” Tipping continues.

From Gridiron to Graveyard: Jordan Peele’s Upcoming Horror Turns Friday Night Lights into a Vampire Nightmare
Image
Get ready for something totally different, a horror movie set in the world of American football. Him is the latest genre-bending project from Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, and it promises a terrifying mash-up of sports drama and supernatural scares.

Directed and co-written by Justin Tipping, the film follows a rising football star who finds himself on a much darker path than he expected.

The story centers on Cameron Cade, a young and ambitious player played by Tyriq Withers. He’s invited to train at a secluded training compound run by football legend Isaiah White, played by Marlon Wayans.

What starts out as a dream opportunity soon turns into a nightmare, as Cameron’s quest to become the greatest of all time (or the “Goat”) comes with disturbing consequences.

Tipping, speaking to Empire, explained that the movie starts out feeling like a classic sports story before everything flips. “My instinct...

Jordan Peele’s New Sports Horror Promises Friday Night Lights With a Bite of Nosferatu
Image
Get ready for something different. Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions is back with a horror film that dares to mix touchdowns with terror. The movie is called Him, and it’s being described as Friday Night Lights meets Nosferatu. Directed by Justin Tipping, who also co-wrote the script, the film drops audiences right into the world of American football, only to slowly twist it into something much darker.

The story follows Cameron Cade, a rising football star played by Tyriq Withers, who’s given the opportunity of a lifetime: train under legendary quarterback Isaiah White, played by Marlon Wayans. But this isn’t your typical mentorship.

As Cameron starts training at Isaiah’s private compound, things begin to spiral into something far more unsettling. The dream of becoming the greatest soon turns into a nightmare.

Talking to Empire, director Justin Tipping explained his approach: “My instinct was to set it...

Stars: Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt | Written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, Sam Lansky | Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson

In the era of legacy sequels, it was only a matter of time before 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer was also revived for the modern-day. From the title to the threatening image of a hook, it is an iconic slice of ’90s horror which helped revitalise the slasher subgenre and is remembered fondly as part of many viewers’ nostalgia. But, to borrow a line from returning final-girl Julie James, “Nostalgia is overrated,” as we are now left with 2025’s I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Returning to her hometown of Southport, Ava Brucks (Chase Sui Wonders) reunites with her past friends at the engagement party for her bestie, Danica Richards (Madelyn Cline). As the...

I Know What You Did Last Summer Worldwide Box Office: Update After 4 Days ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

I Know What You Did Last Summer had an underwhelming start this weekend, its opening weekend. But it has achieved an interesting feat regarding its return on investment: It has earned more than half of its breakeven number worldwide in just four days. Keep scrolling for the deets.

The film debuted at #3 in the domestic box office chart, and it’s not its fault as Hollywood tentpole releases are hogging all the limelight. It is a reboot of the Og classic, which was released in 1997. The film maintains a stronghold at the 3rd rank and is expected to continue until Thursday. On Friday, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released, pushing it further down in the list. The Big 3 – Superman, Jurassic World Rebirth, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps will dominate the box office.

‘9-1-1’ Star, 46, Is Pushing For a Crossover With an Iconic Slasher Franchise
Image
Jennifer Love Hewitt has a brilliant idea, and we’re hoping the 9-1-1 creative team listens to it. On the heels of opening weekend for Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, which sees Hewitt reprise the role of Julie James after nearly three decades since originating it, the actress grabbed a seat opposite Tommy Didario on his I’ve Never Said This Before podcast. It was there that she came up with and spitballed her plans for a one-of-a-kind event that would see 9-1-1 pay homage to the iconic slasher franchise.

During the pair’s chat, the star of the beloved ABC procedural was musing about what might happen to her character — 911 dispatcher Maddie Han — in upcoming episodes when she struck gold with a killer idea:

“What if I get a call at the 911 call center from a girl being chased by a fisherman?...

Jennifer Love Hewitt defends I Know What You Did Last Summer twist (Spoilers)
Jennifer Love Hewitt, Mekhi Phifer, Brandy Norwood, and Freddie Prinze Jr. in Incubo finale (1998)
There’s a new sequel to the 1997 slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer (watch it Here) and its 1998 follow-up I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (watch that one Here) in theatres now (JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols gave it a 4/10 “dumpster fire” review that can be read at This Link). Jennifer Love Hewitt, who played heroine Julie James in the first two films, and Freddie Prinze Jr., who was Julie’s boyfriend Ray Bronson in those films, reprise their roles – and they’re facing off with a new “Fisherman” killer that’s stalking a whole new cast. The movie features a twist that has been upsetting a lot of fans of the original movies, though, and in an interview with Variety, Hewitt took the opportunity to defend that twist. So we’re going to have to dig into Spoiler territory before we get to her defense.

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Ending Explained – Shocking Reveals & Post-Credits Surprises
Image
The latest legacy sequel to a ‘90s slasher classic may hit many familiar notes, but its final act sets up some truly ambitious surprises that will shock franchise fans

Warning: This feature has Heavy Spoilers for 2025’s I Know What You Did Last Summer.

It’s been 27 years since an I Know What You Did Last Summer film was in theaters. The horror landscape has significantly evolved since the late ‘90s, yet there’s been more and more of a push to return to the nostalgic creature comforts of the past. Legacy sequels have become the new normal and the past decade has featured follow-ups to Halloween, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Candyman, and even The Exorcist. This practice has become increasingly normalized to the point that a legacy sequel to 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer makes perfect sense, especially during a time where Scream’s own...

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Director Responds to Speculation That Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. Didn’t Shoot Together
Image
The director of the latest I Know What You Did Last Summer movie knows about Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr.’s chemistry in the new film.

Sony’s feature reboot from director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson hit theaters over the weekend, landing in third place at the domestic box office with $12.7 million. Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers and Sarah Pidgeon round out the cast for the latest entry in the slasher franchise that kicked off with the original 1997 film of the same name.

A social media user’s post on Saturday asked fellow fans whether they thought Hewitt and Prinze — who reprise their roles from the original movie and its sequel — “filmed their scenes together” in the 2025 installment. “People are starting to notice the ‘cuts and separate shots,'” the post continued.

Robinson was quick to clear up any confusion surrounding the pair’s scenes.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)
Image
If you wait long enough, everything comes back around. Still, so much time has passed since the 1998 slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer, fans might not know what they did last weekend, let alone 27 years ago.

But then six _Scream_s can’t be wrong, so back we go to Southport, North Carolina, for this glossy legacy sequel, which introduces likeable Ava (Chase Sui Wonders), ditzy Danica (Madelyn Cline), jock Teddy (Tyriq Withers), mopey Milo (Jonah Hauer-King) and odd-one-out Stevie (Sarah Pidgeon), whose defining characteristic is that she’s poor. A year after accidentally killing someone – on Reaper’s Curve, no less – they start receiving notes saying, “I know what you did last summer”, then getting picked off one by one.

What’s different this time? A fresh, largely female crew, headed by director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) and co-writer Leah McKendrick (Mfa). And the return of...

Image
The following contains major spoilers for I Know What You Did Last Summer, in theaters now.

‘Superman’ crushes ‘Smurfs’ and ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ as Warner Bros. extends box-office hot streak
David Corenswet in SUPER/MAN: THE CHRISTOPHER REEVE STORY IS POWERFUL!! MOVIE REVIEW! (2024)
Update July 20, 2025: Superman is still flying high at the box office.

DC Studios and Warner Bros.' James Gunn-led reboot soared to another box-office victory over the July 18-20 weekend, earning $57.3 million domestically — marking a 54 percent drop from its opening weekend. Universal's Jurassic World Rebirth roared into second place with $23.4 million in its third week, while new releases from Sony's I Know What You Did Last Summer ($13 million) and Paramount's Smurfs ($11 million) struggled with underwhelming openings. Warner Bros.' F1: The Movie rounded out the top five with $9.6 million.

Superman is just the latest success story for Warner Bros. this year — the studio's sixth number-one movie following Mickey 17, A Minecraft Movie, Sinners, Final Destination: Bloodlines, and F1. Warner Bros. currently ranks as the top studio of 2025, with $1.32 billion in domestic receipts. However, that position may shift as Disney's highly anticipated Fantastic Four: First Steps is...

[This story contains spoilers for the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot.]

Jennifer Love Hewitt is addressing the years-old rumored beef between her and her I Know What You Did Last Summer co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar.

During a recent interview with Vulture, the actress, who reprised her role for the new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie, said that while she’s “not talked” to Gellar since the 1997 film’s premiere, there’s no drama between them.

“I honestly don’t even know what that was or how that all came to be,” Hewitt said of her alleged feud with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer star. “I just think people don’t want the narrative to be easy. Why do we always have to be against each other and out for each other?”

Sarah Michelle Gellar on That Major ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Surprise: ‘It Was So Surreal’
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains major spoilers from “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” now in theaters.

Sarah Michelle Gellar never thought there would be an “I Know What You Did Last Summer” movie released in 2025.

“I don’t think I had that one pegged,” Gellar told me Thursday at the taping of the Las Culturistas Culture Awards in Los Angeles.

The new movie, directed and co-written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, follows a group of former high school friends being targeted by a serial killer a year after they were involved in a deadly car accident.

“Jenn Robinson brought it up to me like three or four years ago – this has been a long process – I thought, ‘It’s such a good idea, but you don’t know. Do people still love the movie? Do people still watch the movie?’” Gellar said.

Just days before Las Culturistas, Gellar appeared...

Madelyn Cline Reveals the Last-Minute Changes to ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’
Image
[This story contains major spoilers for 2025’s I Know What You Did Last Summer.]

It’s been an especially busy summer for Madelyn Cline.

She’s not only in the middle of filming the final season of her hit Netflix series, Outer Banks, but she’s also been simultaneously promoting this weekend’s theatrical debut of Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025). And that’s not even half of it. Just one month ago, she happily carved out time from her existing shooting schedule and flew from South Carolina to Los Angeles in order to film a new ending for her character in Robinson’s slasher.

In Jim Gillespie’s 1997 franchise launcher, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Julie James and Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Helen Shivers played best friends until the latter met her end in a heartbreaking duel with Ben Willis’ murderous Fisherman. In Robinson’s legacy sequel to that film and...

Box Office: ‘Superman’ Flexes Impressive Staying Power, Flies Past $400M Globally
Image
Superman has transformed into a bonafide crowd pleaser at the box office in a much-needed inaugural win for the Warner Bros.-owned DC Studios, which is run together by James Gunn — also the film’s director — and producer Peter Safran.

The big-budget tentpole was all but assured of staying atop the domestic box office in its second weekend, but estimates were all over the place as to how it would hold up.

But, buoyed by strong word-of-mouth and reviews, it declined a less-than-expected 54 percent to $57.2 million for a pleasing 10-day domestic tally of $235 million through Sunday. That’s a narrow decline for the struggling superhero genre and the same as Marvel’s summer 2024 billion-dollar blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine. Overseas — where the franchise has always faced challenges because of the comic book character’s pro-American traits — Superman earned another $45.2 million for an international tally of $171.8 million and $406.8 globally in a major win for DC and Warners,...

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)’ Has Managed to Beat 1 Decades-Long Franchise Curse Despite Embarrassing Box Office
Image
I Know What You Did Last Summer has crept back to the theater screens to kill and slash its way to scare the diehard fans of the slasher/thriller genre from the early 90s.

With a newer and fresher take on the hook-wielding fisherman, Ben Willis, terrorizing teens who hid a dead body (again), I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) has been receiving mixed reviews. But despite a low box-office record, it seems that the franchise has managed to beat one decades-long curse.

I Know What You Did Last Summer Manages to Break Franchise Curse Despite Low Earnings

Initially released in 1997, I Know What You Did Last Summer is a slasher thriller film where teenagers accidentally kill a fisherman and hide his body. Soon, the fisherman comes back with a hook in his hand and takes revenge on everyone involved in the crime.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Reflects On Being Target Of Early Aughts Misogyny In Media: “I Was Trying To Outact The Conversation Around My Body”
Image
Having risen to fame in the late ’90s, Jennifer Love Hewitt was among the many starlets caught in the crosshairs of bubblegum misogyny in the early aughts, particularly when it came to tabloid media and paparazzi.

In a sprawling profile with Vulture tied to the return of scream queen Julie James in the legacy sequel I Know What You Did Last Summer, Hewitt said she only recently realized she experienced sexism en masse while viewing the documentary Framing Britney Spears, which exposes the harsh treatment the singer received from the public and media at the height of her fame and conservatorship.

“When I started watching it, I was like, ‘Oh, they talked to me like that, oh.’ I started crying for her. And then I realized I was crying for me,” the actress said.

The 9-1-1 mainstay said the reality of her experience “bothers” her moreso now as she...

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Twists, Cameos & Credits Scene Revealed — Who Is The Fisherman?
Image
Spoilers: This post contains details about I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)

As I Know What You Did Last Summer slashes its way into a new generation, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson‘s requel has plenty of surprises in store for fans of the Og.

The latest horror franchise to come back from the dead, amid the likes of Halloween and Scream, the followup to the 1997 slasher flick and its ’98 sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer takes some big swings with its killer reveal, as well as some top-secret cameos that longtime fans will appreciate.

With Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprising their roles from the previous two films as survivors and high school sweethearts Julie James and Ray Bronson, nostalgia was inevitably going to be a major factor in this new installment, which also boasts a young cast of new potential victims (and suspects), including Chase Sui Wonders,...

Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Tyriq Withers, Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, and Sarah Pidgeon in So cosa hai fatto (2025)
I was in high school when I Know What You Did Last Summer hit theaters in 1997. Like many teens, I was excited by the sudden revival of the teen slasher genre, spearheaded by Scream and its many sequels. I Know What You Did Last Summer, while never quite on the level of Scream, was a solid enough slasher that made a lasting impression. It catapulted Jennifer Love Hewitt—already popular thanks to Party of Five—into full-fledged “It Girl” status, while Freddie Prinze Jr. and Ryan Phillippe quickly became rising stars. Sarah Michelle Gellar, of course, was already a household name thanks to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

The sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, flopped, as did the direct-to-video third film, and a poorly received Prime Video series that ignored the original films altogether.

Now, Sony is hoping to revive the franchise with I Know What You Did Last Summer...

There’s a new sequel to the 1997 slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer (watch it Here) and its 1998 follow-up I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (watch that one Here) in theatres now. We’ve seen what JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols had to say about the new film; his 4/10 “dumpster fire” review can be read at This Link, or you can hear it in the video embedded above. Now, we want to know: what did you think of I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)?

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’: What Did They Do?
Image
“I Know What You Did Last Summer” is back.

The original film, made in 1997, was loosely based on Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel of the same name, and was a slasher movie in the guise of a morality play – a group of numbskull teens run over a pedestrian and, a year later, are viciously bumped off one-by-one. The cosmic joke of the movie was that, yes, we were rooting for them to survive even if we knew, deep down, that they probably deserved it.

Now, the title and general conceit are back with “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” a legacy sequel that takes the survivors from the first one (Hewitt and Prinze Jr.) and places them into a narrative involving a new group of youngsters who are stalked one year after a similar crime.

But what did they actually do last summer? Read on to find out.

I Know What You Did Last Summer Divides Critics & Audiences on Rotten Tomatoes (& It Sets a New Record)
Image
I Know What You Did Last Summer is back, and it features some exciting changes. The slasher franchise premiered in 1997 and has featured some unsuccessful sequels, each entry getting worse reviews from both critics and the audience.

The 2025 legacy sequel changes all that. The new entry has Jennifer Kaytin Robinson at the helm, and a brand-new group of friends with a dark secret, but it also brings back two legacy characters: Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Ray Bronson (Freddie Prinze Jr.). I Know What You Did Last Summer is officially out in theaters, and it has critics and audiences in disagreement on Rotten Tomatoes, while also featuring a very exciting franchise first.

I Know What You Did Last Summer debuted with a "rotten" 46% score from the critics. While that sounds awful for every new release out there, its initial score was a franchise best, ahead of the 1997 original with 45%. However,...

Box Office: ‘Superman’ Leaps Past $300M Globally, Nears $200M Domestically
Image
James Gunn’s Superman leapt past the $300 million mark at the worldwide box office on Thursday as it heads into its second weekend. That number includes an impressive domestic haul of $177.7 million after enjoying strong midweek business.

The DC Studios and Warner Bros. superhero pic will have no trouble staying atop the chart in its sophomore outing and is trouncing new offerings I Know What You Did Last Summer and Smurfs. Both films are reboots, and are projected to open to less than $13 million domestically.

From Sony’s Screen Gems, the R-rated horror pic I Know What You Did Last Summer earned $2.2 million in Thursday previews. While Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprise their roles from the original films, the new installment otherwise introduces a host of newcomers to the series, including Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon and Gabbriette Bechtel.

I Know What You Did Last Summer Rotten Tomatoes Score Has Set A Surprising Franchise Record
Image
I Know What You Did Last Summer's Rotten Tomatoes score has set a surprising franchise record. Co-written and directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the latest film in the slasher franchise features a new group of friends who are targeted by another hook-wielding killer one year after they covered up a car accident in which they supposedly killed someone.

The I Know What You Did Last Summer cast is comprised almost entirely of franchise newcomers, including Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, and Austin Nichols. However, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. return to reprise their roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson, after appearing in the first two films.

Now, on the day of its theatrical release, I Know What You Did Last Summer hasdebuted with a 69% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie only has 100+ verified ratings at the time of writing,...

How ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Found Its 2025 Ensemble: Aging Up for Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, and More
Image
The original “I Know What You Did Last Summer” instantly became an iconic horror film in 1997 thanks to its impeccably cast ensemble consisting of Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe. Hewitt and Prinze have now returned to reprise their characters in the requel of the same title, but once she had them aboard, co-writer and director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson faced a daunting challenge: finding rising stars to play the new characters who could live up to the standard set by the first movie.

“I tried not to think too much about the pressure of it all, because then you can just drive yourself insane,” Robinson told IndieWire on an upcoming episode of the Filmmaker Toolkit podcast. “For me, it was always just about wanting to find the people that disappeared into the roles, and also the alchemy of the five of them together. Because you can have five actors,...

I Know What You Did Last Summer Movie Review: Entertaining Yet An Uninspired Sequel That Clings To Ghosts Of The Past

I Know What You Did Last Summer Movie Review Rating:

Star Cast: Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt

Director: Jennifer Kaytin Robinson

I Know What You Did Last Summer Movie Review: A Sequel That Clings To Ghosts Of The Past (Photo Credit – Instagram)

What’s Good: The slasher formula remains true and proven, so watching the characters die is always fun.

What’s Bad: The revival doesn’t do anything to stand out, and what is there feels rather generic and played out.

Loo Break: Missing the killings might be a bad idea when they are the only element that really makes the film watchable.

Watch or Not?: Only watch if you are a huge fan of the slasher genre. If you aren’t, there is very little here to justify the ticket price.

Language: English (with...

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Review: Fresh and Stylish, it’s the Perfect Brat Summer Massacre
Image
Some legendary divas just refuse to stay down forever. The 2025 sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer is a genuinely refreshing, stylish, and totally unexpected resurrection of an underrated ’90s classic, pairing glossy next-gen mayhem with a distinctly vintage slasher flair. It’s the perfect Brat Summer massacre, a red Solo cup brimming with sun‑soaked dread and a killer with an appreciation for theatrics.

Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge), the film Trojan-horses traditional horror tropes in neon and camp, weaponizing style and good taste in order to sharpen every silly little beat. The story picks up decades after the original, with a new set of fresh-faced friends: privileged, chaotic, well-intended, and guilty as sin. A year after an unfortunately tame Fourth‑of‑July roadside accident, a brand new “I know what you did last summer” note kicks off a methodically tense and surprisingly funny killing spree.

Freddie Prinze Jr.'s Big Rom-Com Return Gets a Major Update
Image
It's always great to watch an acting duo who have an on-screen chemistry that has snowballed into a very robust relationship off-screen. It always helps, especially when they have to star alongside each other in rom-coms. The entire experience is elevated on the strength of their synergy. On the red carpet for the premiere of I Know What You Did Last Summer earlier this week, Freddie Prinze Jr. revealed to Deadline that he’s gearing up to shoot a brand-new holiday romantic comedy, The Christmas Affair. Even better? He’ll be reuniting with a familiar face, his She’s All Thatco-star, Rachael Leigh Cook.

The project will mark a full-circle moment for both stars, who have worked closely in previous films. According to the actor, filming will take place in New York City this October and November. The project promises to be more than just a sugary holiday flick, bringing...

Movie Review: I Know What You Did Last Summer
Image
In the twenty-seven and a half years since the first incarnation of I Know What You Did Last Summer assaulted movie theaters in 1997, the film has spawned a 1998 sequel as well as a 2021 television series. Now, the story returns to theaters with a reinvented version that does little to warrant the continuation of the franchise moving forward, despite multiple nods to previous installments that will surely please fans of the series.

As did the original film, this one begins with a lengthy prologue of sorts that sets up the unfolding of events throughout the story. A year ago, five friends accidentally cause the death of a motorist in a car accident. But it is their pact to cover up the incident and their involvement that leads to deadly consequences on the anniversary of the “murder,” when they begin receiving messages that someone knows what they did. Then, one by one,...

I Know What You Did Last Summer's Sarah Michelle Gellar Addresses Jennifer Love Hewitt Feud Rumors
Image
I Know What You Did Last Summer is back with a new entry. The 1997 original starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe.

The new legacy sequel brought back Hewitt and Prinze Jr., the only remaining survivors of the two installments. However, although Gellar refused to return, given that her character was killed in the first installment, she attended the new sequel's premiere to support her husband, Prinze Jr. Since Gellar had no interactions with Hewitt, the internet started speculating that the two had a feud, something Gellar clarified on her Instagram immediately.

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer star shared a series of photos from the premiere, which she attended with a butterfly mini dress from Oscar de la Renta from its pre-fall 2025 collection. She shared pictures of herself and Prinze Jr. posing together,...

I Know What You Did Last Summer Reboot Debuts With Franchise-Best Rotten Tomatoes Score — But It’s Still Rotten
Image
I Know What You Did Last Summer ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

I Know What You Did Last Summer is back again, but this time with a reboot that drags the old story into fresh waters with new faces, old scars, and the same killer hook. A year after yet another accident, another group of friends ends up being hunted by the Fisherman, the figure that never seems to hang up his raincoat. The new film, directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, tries to blend nostalgia with modern frights, and while it lands a few punches, most critics are not biting.

I Know What You Did Last Summer Rotten Tomatoes Score

This time, Madelyn Cline, Jonah Hauer-King, Chase Sui Wonders, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, and Billy Campbell lead the cast. However, the return of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., stepping back in as Julie and Ray from the 1997 original, has been hyped the most.

Film Review: Problematic ‘I Know What you Did Last Summer’
Image
Chicago – The original 1997 “I Know What You Did Last Summer” was – in the vernacular of “Seinfeld” – a “time slot hit.” Coming from writer Kevin Williamson of the original “Scream” movie, it cashed on the late 1990’s slasher revival by playing off an association with a proven hit without offering anything particularly distinctive or memorable. It was successful, but it wasn’t all that good.

This legacy reboot, taking another page from the Scream playbook, fails to improve on the original. But it does introduce a group of Gen Z protagonists who make you want to root for the sinister Gorton’s Fisherman who’s impaling them with various pieces of fishing gear, including that famous hook.

”I Know What You Did Last Summer” is in theaters on July 18th Featuring Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. Screenplay by...

I Know What You Did Last Summer Sequel: Critics Divided on Legacy Horror Film
Image
The anticipated legacy sequel to 1997's I Know What You Did Last Summer finally arrives in theaters on July 18, and the reviews are trickling in. So was the follow-up feature worth the wait? On Rotten Tomatoes, 2025's I Know What You Did Last Summercurrently holds a 46% rating from 46 reviews, indicating that it is, at best, a mixed bag. The new slasher stars Madelyn Cline as Danica Richards, Chase Sui Wonders as Ava Brucks, and Jonah Hauer-King as Milo Griffin, among others, and welcomes back Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. to reprise their roles.

The original I Know What You Did Last Summer also didn't impress critics. While it was a commercial success that topped the US box office for three consecutive weeks, it holds just a 45% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Over time, however, it has become a cult classic.

The new film, the fourth installment in the franchise,...

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Director On Why Lola Tung & Nicholas Alexander Chavez Were Cut From The Slasher
Image
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, director of the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel, is revealing the reason Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chavez were cut from the film.

Back in November 2024, Deadline exclusively reported that the Summer I Turned Pretty star and the Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story actor had joined the cast of the slasher sequel.

However, when viewers see the film on the big screen, neither Tung nor Chavez will appear in the movie, despite having filmed scenes.

“In every movie, it’s best laid plans, and then you edit the movie and you put it together and you go, ‘I love this in a vacuum. This is a fantastic scene. But it doesn’t fit in the movie,'” Robinson said in an interview with People. “It was just one of those situations where it had nothing to do with Lola and Nicholas — they are both so fantastic.

I Know What You Did Last Summer And Smurfs' Rotten Tomatoes Scores Have Been Revealed
Image
While Superman will quite easily remain at #1 heading into its second weekend in theaters, the Dcu movie is set to face competition from new releases, I Know What You Did Last Summer and Smurfs.

All three movies will attract vastly different audiences, and Jurassic World Rebirth should continue to pose a problem for all of the above. Still, helping Superman is the largely negative critical reception to I Know What You Did Last Summer and Smurfs.

Despite glowing social media reactions, the horror reboot has arrived on Rotten Tomatoes with a "Rotten" 46% score. The reviews are all over the place; Deadline, for example, writes, "A vapid, utterly hollow husk of revival. And when it isn’t copy-pasting lines straight out of Hewitt’s mouth it resorts to an almost impressively high level of pandering to its Gen Z audience."

Nerdist countered that with, "I Know What You Did Last Summer carves up laughs,...

Chase Sui Wonders is trapped while Gabbriette Bechtel is chased by the killer in IMDb‘s new clip from I Know What You Did Last Summer.

The legacy sequel to the 1997 slasher sinks its hook into theaters this Friday, July 18, from Sony.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) directs from a script she co-wrote with Sam Lansky, based on a story by Robinson and Leah McKendrick (M.F.A.).

When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer… and is hell-bent on revenge.

I Know What You Did Last Summer Sets Rotten Tomatoes Franchise Record (But There's No Reason to Celebrate)
Image
Almost three decades after its premiere, the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise continues with a new installment. The legacy sequel, titled exactly like the 1997 original, features a brand-new group, but brings back two key victims.

In 1997, Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt), Ray Bronson (Freddie Prinze Jr.), Barry Cox (Ryan Phillippe), and Helen Shivers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) starred in the slasher as a group who gets into a tragic hit-and-run and vowed to keep it a secret, just to get hunted one year later by a mysterious killer who knew their secret. The 2025 film brings back Julie and Ray, the only survivors of the first two films of the franchise, with a new group of friends. Ahead of the legacy sequel's release in theaters, I Know What You Did Last Summer just broke a franchise record and scored the best score yet: 46% from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes,...

I Know What You Did Last Summer Rotten Tomatoes Score Revealed - Is The Legacy Sequel A Franchise Best?
Image
I Know What You Did Last Summer's Rotten Tomatoes score is here, with critics sharing their thoughts on the reboot. The latest installment in the popular horror franchise hails from director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, with a new group of friends now facing the wrath of the Fisherman after an accident the previous year.

The I Know What You Did Last Summer cast features a number of franchise newcomers, including Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, and Billy Campbell. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. return for the new film as Julie James and Ray Bronson, respectively, after appearing in the original 1997 movie.

With reviews now releasing online, the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot has debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a lackluster score of 46% from 37 reviews. Though this score is likely to fluctuate as more reviews are added, this currently makes...

First reactions to I Know What You Did Last Summer say the sequel hooks audiences with camp, rough writing, and fun kills
With horror franchises like Scream, The Toxic Avenger, and Friday the 13th coming back into the spotlight, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood got Jennifer Love Hewitt and the band back together for another chapter of I Know What You Did Last Summer, the whodunit horror series with sexy stars, gory kills, and the angriest fisherman with a Captain Hook complex. The first reactions to director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s sequel are making the rounds, making the latest Summer flick sound like a mixed bag of nostalgia and questionable writing, but all-around fun!

While we’ve heard I Know What You Did Last Summer is Golden Razzies material, others appear genuinely pleased with the film and act like it’s the greatest thing since McDonald’s put Snack Wraps back on the menu.

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Review – Sequel Delivers Slasher Fun But Remains Stuck in the Past
Image
Time is a flat circle in the legacy sequel I Know What You Did Last Summer. Nearly three decades after an ill-fated accident led to tragedy, then murder, a new group of friends unwittingly stumble down the same path, awakening the Fisherman’s wrath once more. Director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge), who co-wrote with Sam Lansky, uses Southport’s latest slasher cycle to not quite re-write the past but rather honor the franchise’s legacy while updating it for modern audiences. Armed with a blood-thirstier killer, Robinson’s installment narrowly avoids the pitfalls of legacy sequels and their overreliance on trauma in favor of slasher fun.

Mirroring the 1997 original film, I Know What You Did Last Summer introduces a close-knit friend group of early 20-somethings who have returned to their hometown of Southport around the Fourth of July for the engagement party of Danica (Madelyn Cline) and Teddy (Tyriq Withers...
