Queen Theatrical Productions, Tribeca Theatrical Productions, Phil Mcintyre Entertainment and NETworks Presentations launch the first North American tour of Queen and Ben Elton's We Will Rock You. The 'rock theatrical', built around 24 of Queen's biggest hits, debuted its national tour in Baltimore, MD, at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center, in October 2013. The cast features Brian Justin Crum as Galileo, Ruby Lewis as Scaramouche, Jacqueline Arnold as Killer Queen, P.J. Griffith as Kashoggi, Ryan Knowles as Buddy, Erica Peckas Oz and Jared Zirilli as Britney. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below...

Producers announced today that P.J. Griffith Giant, American Idiot and Christina Sajous Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark, American Idiot will star in the industry lab presentation of the new musical, Beyond The Music, on January 28th and 29th. They join previously announced cast members Rob Bartlett How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, Katie Rose Clarke Wicked, Claybourne Elder Bonnie and Clyde and Tony Award-winner Karen Ziemba Contact, Curtains. Beyond The Music features a book by Andy Sandberg, music and lyrics by Cliff Downs and Katie Kahanovitz, and direction by Sandberg, with choreography by AC Ciulla and music supervision and arrangements by Fred Lassen.

The Public Theater presents the New York premiere production of Giant, an epic love story with book by Sybille Pearson, music and lyrics by Michael John Lachiusa and directed by Michael Greif. Giant Public Theater, NYC

Giant, the new musical based on the Edna Ferber novel and now playing at the Public Theater, is a major achievement. No, it is not perfect, and it probably won't please everyone. There are no show-stopping production numbers that we are so used to in most musicals. However, I found its ambitious attempt to tell a sprawling, epic story -- one that encompasses two generations over twenty-five years and deals with themes ranging from family to racism to loving the Texas land to an evolving America -- to be wonderfully fulfilling. 

Giant has a strong, dramatic book by Sybille Pearson, a superb cast, and a rich, melodic, surprisingly accessible score by Michael John Lachiusa that features a number of appropriate musical styles, including Mexican folk, rock, jazz, and country. Tony Award-nominee and Smash star Brian D’Arcy James will take on the lead role of Bick in the Public Theater’s upcoming production of Giant.

Originally a novel by Edna Ferber, the story follows a cattle rancher and his multi-generational rivalry with an oil tycoon. It was made into an Oscar-winning film in 1956 starring Rock Hudson, James Dean, and Elizabeth Taylor.

The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle, which consists of L.A.-area theater journalists in various media, has announced nominees and special awards for its 41st annual awards ceremony, to be held March 22 at Burbank’s Colony Theatre.Awards will be given in 20 categories, honoring excellence in theater over the past year. Eight special awards will include a special citation to actor Kirk Douglas for his lifetime contribution to Los Angeles theatre, as well as the new Milton Katselas Award for career or special achievement in direction, sponsored by Camelot Artists.The 2009 Special Awards include:– The Ted Schmitt Award for the world premiere of an outstanding new play: Julie Marie Myatt for the bittersweet domestic drama "The Happy Ones," which premiered at South Coast Repertory. The Blank Theatre Company is set to open the World Premiere of Setup & Punch a comedic play written by Mark Saltzman with original songs by Berton Averre & Rob Meurer and directed by The Blank's Artistic Director Daniel Henning.
