Nautilus season 1, episode 9 recap: Nordic mythology for Nordic treasure
Image
After multiple near-death experiences, the crew of the Nautilus is finally on the same page. They are all looking forward to reaching the Pillars of Halvar in Nautilus season 1, episode 9.

Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Nautilus season 1, episode 9

Now that Nemo has come to know the crew a lot better, he’s eating with them. That is after he and Humility take a look at the wonders of the Northern Lights. This is a chance for Nemo to go into a little more about his life with his daughter, sharing a story about how he settled her in her fears of the night.

After that, it’s time for the crew to discuss what they’ll do with the treasure. They all have their own plans, whether it’s to open a bat in Tahiti (Lotte) or convince Lotte to come to his native Thailand instead (Kai). For Jaicomo,...

After Disney Killed It, This Sci-Fi Remake Is Quietly Taking Over Streaming Charts
Image
When folks first think of bingeable summer options, they may turn their attention to action-packed crime dramas or tales of first love, but this year, many have been turning their attention to the high seas, where AMC pulled a surprise hit into port. Following its cancellation on Disney+, Nautilus was given the gift of a second chance by the new network, allowing the already finished series to officially set sail. Now, AMC is likely counting its lucky stars, as the title has continued to pull in a solid following since it arrived at the end of June, leaving the House of Mouse with a majorly missed opportunity.

If the title of the hit AMC series sounds familiar, that’s because it draws its story from the long-loved Jules Verne-penned 1870 novel, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas. Instead of acting as a direct adaptation of the tale, the project serves...

Nautilus season 1, episode 8 recap: Lies and risks lead to mutiny
Image
The more you lie to people, the more they turn away from you. That’s exactly what Nemo learns in Nautilus season 1, episode 8.

Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Nautilus season 1, episode 8.

After putting lives at risk, the crew of the Nautilus have finally had enough. It doesn’t help that Humility makes the choice to call Nemo out on his wrong calculations in front of everyone rather than talk to him quickly in private.

You see, Nemo thinks they have enough air for six days under the ice, and it will take five days to get through. Humility has worked out that they only have enough air for three days, so they need to turn back. Nemo doesn’t want to do that, and it leads to mutiny on the Nautilus.

Nautilus/Series 1. (L to R) Ashan Kumar as Ranbir, Georgia Flood as Humility, Celine Menville as Loti in Nautilus.

Review: Episode 8 of Nautilus tips the scale with mutiny
Image
The theme of Nautilus episode 8 is one of trust and mending relationships. It’s been touched on in other episodes, but there’s still work the Nautilus crew needs to do.

Youngblood questions Millais about why he played alongside Nemo in the game and then sends a message about where the Nautilus is heading to Crowley. Millais remains silent. We know he believes Nemo ruined his life.

Beneath the arctic ice, the Nautilus crew grows disillusioned with Nemo, who is obsessed with getting to London to exact revenge. They pass frozen shipwrecks with crews who look asleep rather than dead for many years. Their fear leads to a discussion of mutiny and, when Nemo cannot be convinced to change course, they take action.

Boniface Adamu takes the captaincy but not without a fight. He confines Nemo to his cabin and then turns the Nautilus around.

Pacharo Mzembe as Boniface in Nautilus.

Check out the clip below.

The official description of the episode reads, "The starving crew venture onto a seemingly deserted island in search of food, but Blaster is kidnapped by the survivors of a Company shipwreck. Nemo and Humility attempt a daring rescue mission but end up disturbing a giant electric eel."

Image
Exclusive: Nautilus shored up a promising debut across AMC and AMC+.

The adventure drama premiered on June 29, attracting 2.6M viewers on linear alone, per Nielsen live+3 data. It was the network’s biggest premiere night audience since The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live premiered just over one year ago.

On streaming, Nautilus is pacing as a top new series in both viewership and acquisition, the company tells Deadline.

The series, inspired by Jules Verne’s beloved Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, follows Shazad Latif as Captain Nemo, an Indian Prince robbed of his birthright and family, a prisoner of the East India Mercantile Company and a man bent on revenge against the forces that have taken everything from him.

Nemo’s mission is to enact revenge on the East India Mercantile Company, who took everything from him. To do so, Nemo audaciously steals a prototype submarine from the...

Nautilus season 1 episode 2 recap: A mistaken attempt to escape
Image
It’s pretty clear that not everyone really wanted to be part of Nemo’s escape. That leads to some of them attempting to leave the submarine in Nautilus season 1, episode 2.

Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Nautilus season 1, episode 2.

The episode of Nautilus picks up off the back of the first episode. The ship is sinking, and the power is completely out. Humility has an idea, and Nemo even listens to it. They need to pump air into the engine to get it working again, but it doesn’t work. The further they sink, the more oxygen they lose, and it looks like this planned escape is going to fail.

Well, that is until Loti and others hear hissing. Air is escaping from one of the pipes. As they seal that, they can finally get air into the engine, and that gets the submarine back to the surface. Now...

Nautilus series premiere recap: A daring escape sets us on an underwater adventure
Image
The adventure begins in the Nautilus series premiere, and it certainly sets the tone for some of the highs and lows with the way the escape has to begin. Meanwhile, we get a tease of who Humility Lucas really is.

Caution: This post contains Spoilers for the Nautilus series premiere.

While the Nautilus series premiere opens on the high seas with Humility Lucas losing a card game — although she knows that she shouldn’t have — it doesn’t take long to get into the nitty gritty of Captain Nemo’s adventure. The episode does start with the ship Humility is one being hit by something big, elading to the ship being split in half.

Well, that something big was the Nautilus, with Nemo sharing that he will take the women and children, but not anyone who works for The Company. We know that is the East India Company, which is...

Review: Nautilus delivers an action-packed underwater adventure in its first episode
Image
Created by James Dormer, Nautilus is a new adaptation of Jules Verne’s novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Episodes 1 and 2 have dropped tonight, June 29, on AMC and AMC+.

Right off the bat, I have to mention how gorgeous the sets are. The show is set in 1857, a time with opulent architecture and style, all of which is rendered beautifully in Nautilus. There is plenty of action, some of which is reminiscent of the Indiana Jones movies. There are fun bits of humor in there too.

Let’s take a look at the first episode. It’s a basic but necessary introduction to the characters and scenario.

Nautilus review: Episode 1, "Anahata"

Nemo (Shazad Latif) is a penal colony slave laborer working on the construction of a new submersible ship called the Nautilus. He and other slaves are conspiring with the ship's designer, Gustave Benoit (Thierry Frémont), to break free and...

Nautilus Review — Campy Goodness, for Better or Worse (Probably Worse)
Image
One great thing about the streaming era is that if one platform drops the ball or decides to cut its losses, another often steps in to pick up where others left off. That’s precisely what happened with the new series Nautilus. Developed initially for Disney+, reportedly at a cost of over $300 million, the platform ultimately scrapped the project.

Fortunately, AMC+ acquired U.S. distribution rights, while Prime Video picked it up for release in the United Kingdom. Considering the high price tag with no big-name stars attached, was Nautilus worth it? The result is a souped-up, lavish series like you used to see with Lucy Lawless or Daniel Goddard, syndicated internationally, and pre-streaming

Star Trek Alum Shazad Latif Captains the ‘Nautilus’ in First Trailer for Rescued Sci-Fi Series
Image
Star Trek: Discovery's Shazad Latif is going where no man has gone before... but this time, instead of outer space, he's headed to the hidden depths of the ocean. Latif stars as Captain Nemo in Nautilus, AMC's new reimagining of Jules Verne's classic science fiction novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The show's new trailer sees him set sail in the titular super-submarine, even as he's pursued to the ends of the Earth. The series premieres June 29 on AMC and AMC+.

In the new trailer for the 19th-century-set science fiction series, which serves as a prequel to Verne's novel, Nemo is the prisoner of the East India Mercantile Company, a globe-spanning corporation that wields more power than any government. He and his fellow prisoners are put to work building the Nautilus, an advanced submarine that the Company hopes will further tighten its grip on the world's seaways.

Get ready to set sail on adventure, as AMC has confirmed when American audiences can finally watch Nautilus!

Among the many science fiction classics, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea holds a special place. Jules Verne’s 1870 novel was far ahead of its time on undersea exploration via a massive submarine called the Nautilus, captained by the renegade Captain Nemo.

The tale has been adapted numerous times, most notably in 1954’s Disney version starring Kirk Douglas and Paul Mason as Nemo. There have been other takes on it from movies to ABC’s Once Upon a Time.

Now, at last, American audiences have a peek at a prequel series, Nautilus. TV Line confirms that the series will premiere Sunday, June 29 at 9/8c on AMC and AMC+, with its first two episodes. Additional episodes will premiere weekly on Sundays, leading to a double-episode season finale on Aug. 17.

The show has an interesting history.

‘Nautilus’ Trailer Drops for Series Inspired by ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,’ Coming to AMC and AMC+ in June
Image
Jules Verne’s classic tale of underwater exploration gets a fresh twist with the upcoming series ‘Nautilus’. I’m excited to see how this show reimagines the world of Captain Nemo, blending high-seas adventure with a gritty fight for freedom. It’s a story that’s been told before, but this version feels like it’s carving its own path, diving deep into a historical clash of power and rebellion.

Set in 1857, the series drops us into a time when the British East India Company ruled with an iron grip, plundering wealth and controlling private armies. We follow a group of prisoners, led by a brilliant but vengeful mind, as they seize a groundbreaking submersible vessel. Their escape into the ocean sparks a thrilling chase, with danger lurking above and below the waves. The show promises stunning underwater visuals—think massive sea creatures and uncharted depths—paired with intense battles against a ruthless enemy.

Shazad Latif's Nautilus Will Air In The US Nearly Two Years After Disney+ Passed On The Series
Image
The nautical fantasy series Nautilus, a ten-episode Paramount production originally intended for Disney+ in 2023, has found a new home and will premiere on AMC and AMC+ on June 29th.

The fact that all episodes of the ambitious and visually rich series had already wrapped filming made Disney+'s subsequent decision all the more noteworthy when they opted not to release it.

This move, reportedly driven by evolving strategic objectives within the streaming service and a directive to reduce overall expenditures, had a ripple effect across several projects in development or completion.

Alongside Nautilus, this change in direction also resulted in the unexpected vaulting of the Willow series and the cancelation of The Spiderwick Chronicles, leaving creators and audiences alike surprised and disappointed by the platform's change of course.

Following a U.K. debut on Prime Video in October 2024, Nautilus has now been picked up by AMC and AMC+, finally bringing...

AMC Nabs ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’ Reimagining From Disney
Image
A retelling of the story of Captain Nemo is on the move — and not just under the ocean.

AMC Networks has grabbed linear and streaming rights to Nautilus — a reimagining of Jules Verne’s classic novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea — in the United States and Canada. The series, which hails from British companies Moonriver TV and All3Media-owned Seven Stories, was initially set for Disney+, which picked it up to series in August 2021. After scrapping the show earlier this year as part of a content write-down, however, Disney Entertainment has licensed Nautilus to AMC and its sibling streamer AMC+, which plan to air the series in 2024.

“Nautilus is a big, sweeping drama that is sure to appeal to fans of our Anne Rice Immortal Universe and other buzzy and fan-forward series like Orphan Black: Echoes,” said Ben Davis, executive vp original programming at AMC Networks and AMC Studios.
