American Idol Recap: The Winner Is... Plus —  Season 14 Finale Awards!
Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan in American Idol: The Search for a Superstar (2002)
A good American Idol finale is kind of like the Fountain of Youth — and that’s not only a reference to 43-year-old Ricky Martin, 45-year-old J.Lo and 44-year-old Jordan Knight taking the stage and looking like they halted the aging process back in the late ’90s.

Recap: 'American Idol' Season 14 Finale - Nick versus Clark - Who wins?
Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan in American Idol: The Search for a Superstar (2002)
Nick or Clark? Clark or Nick? Who will be crowned our 14th and penultimate "American Idol" winner? And why must it take 126 minutes to find out? When "American Idol" was a colossus straddling the TV landscape, this sort of bloated spectacle wasn't just justified, it was practically necessary for Fox. Milk every blessed second out of "American Idol"!  But Tuesday night's performance finale lost to "Undateable" in the 18-49 demo. That's a bit sad. But maybe ratings will still perk up for the actual finale. Follow along with me as we go on this lengthy journey to either Clark Beckham or Nick Fradiani's confetti-filled coronation... 8:00 p.m. Et. Nick and Clark are joining Fall Out Boy for a rousing show-opening rendition of "Centuries." Neither seems exactly sure whether or not they're the stars of this this particular performance. Clark in particular lingers in the background in discomfort waiting...

American Idol Recap: No Judgment
Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan in American Idol: The Search for a Superstar (2002)
I’ve been recapping American Idol since Carrie Underwood was a humble farm girl who may or may not have been able to afford Almay — let alone be the face of its national advertising campaign.

And throughout that time, the show’s judging panel has been my go-to source for mockery, outrage and befuddlement — as well as an assortment of all-important conspiracy theories.

Recap: 'American Idol' Season 14 - Billboard Hits plus the 'Idol' Save Returns
Jennifer Lopez
Odd "American Idol" Season 14 fact: Unless I'm missing something, every single remaining "American Idol" Finalist this season is from the Eastern or Central Time Zone. Daniel Seavey and Adanna Duru were the only two contestants from the West Coast and they're gone. Last week, the otherwise dismal Daniel got hosed by the "Idol" Twitter Save, in which his geographic core was disenfranchised if they happened not to be watching an online live feed. The "Idol" Twitter Save returns on Wednesday (April 8), but with all of the singers' hometowns watching the same feed, nobody can claim that they're being Seaveyed. And, once again, viewers from outside of the Et/Ct time zones  have been cut out of the elimination process. Tonight's theme is Billboard Hits, so follow along and chime in with your own thoughts... 7:59 p.m. Et. Has anybody else lost all sense of how many people are still left on "Idol" this season?...

'American Idol' Predictions: Who Will Be in the Top 7?

The long-overdue elimination of Daniel Seavey finally occurred on American Idol. Now that the weakest singer of season 14 is no longer in the competition, where do we go from here? There are some contestants that obviously don't have much time left on the show -- the two that first come to mind are Rayvon Owen and Qaasim Middleton.

The Kelly Clarkson Songbook. That's what we're getting on Wednesday (April 1) night's "American Idol."  This is not to question Kelly Clarkson's awesomeness or even the very-goodness of Kelly Clarkson's discography, but there are some people in this "Idol" season who seem like they're going to be well-suited to tonight's theme and other people for home this may be excruciating, especially since the "Idol" voters are back in female-shunning mode this season. Recap: 'American Idol' Season 14 - Top 9 '80s Night and Double-Elimination
Jennifer Lopez
We're only two weeks into this season's "American Idol" Finals and The Save is gone.  The "Idol" judges opted to Save Qaasim Middleton last week. Were they protecting the entertainment factor that Qaasim brings to the show? Were they rewarding Qaasim for bringing energy to an episode that had lacked energy? Were they recognizing that America's voting has, thus far, been wonky as heck this season? Either way, Wednesday's (March 25) episode of "American Idol" is going to be a double-elimination episode, meaning that there are 11 remaining contestants, but presumably only nine are going to sing. This will change the entire architecture of the episode. Plus, Fox is boasting an appearance by Salt and/or Peppa, following last week's big Kenny Loggins appearance. Whee! 8:01 p.m. I think Nick Fradiani should have been the '80s Night mentor, since I'm pretty sure he's the only contestant this season who existed way back then.

'American Idol' Predictions: Which Two Singers Will Leave the Top 11?
Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan in American Idol: The Search for a Superstar (2002)
In my previous American Idol prediction article, I said that there's always a singer who sticks around longer than they should. The opposite point can also be made, that there are always singers who leave earlier than they deserve to. The Judges' Save is a tool that Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick, Jr. can use to right a wrong when it comes to the results of America's votes. If we as voters get complacent and don't vote as much for a particular contestant who's considered a frontrunner or otherwise is too talented to let go of just yet, the judges can whip that Save out and make a one-time correction.

But we've barely gotten past the Top 12 and the judges have already blown it by using their Save on Qaasim Middleton, one of the contestants who least deserves it. Yes, he's an entertainer and it might be fun to watch him perform,...

Adanna Duru kicked things off by performing “Love You I Do.” Daniel Seavey sang “Lost Stars.” Rayvon Owen sang “Stayin’ Alive.” Nick Fradiani Jr. sang “Danger Zone.” After a break, Joey Cook sang “Mad World.” Tyanna Jones sang “Circle of Life.” Quentin Alexander sang “You’re the One That I Want.” Maddie Walker performed “Let’s Hear It for the Boy.” Clark Beckham sang “Sunday Morning,” and Jax wrapped up the performances by singing “Grow Old With You.” By this time, it was revealed that everyone was safe, except for poor Qaasim Middleton who had to sing “Come Together” for the judges one and only "save" of the season. Recap: 'American Idol' Season 14 - Top 10 Movie Night and Results
Jennifer Lopez
Sorry, but I'm still annoyed that we sent Sarina-Joi Crowe packing. It's not that she didn't, at least on some level, deserve to go. She gave a bad performance at the beginning of a long episode, which is an easy path to being forgotten and being eliminated. Still, "American Idol" lost a singer with almost limitless upside and we kept at least four or five people who almost certainly will never have anywhere near Sarina-Joi's potential. Oh well. After dedicating Wednesday night to two ridiculously high-rated hours of "Empire," Fox is turning Thursday over for a sure-to-be-lower-rated two hours of "American Idol" with a Movie Night theme. This is always one of the show's fuzziest and least justifiable themes and tonight we're using the theme as a hook so that Jennifer Lopez can perform the song she has in an upcoming movie. Click through and follow along! 8:00 p.m.

Sorry about the delay, kids. I had to be doing PaleyFest 2015 red carpet coverage for Starz's "Outlander," so I was talking about wedding nights and spankings and I missed doing my normal Eastern Time "American Idol" live-blog. And, in fact, I got home nearly 20 minutes into the Pacific Time airing of "Idol." So let's play a game and see how quickly I'm able to catch up with the live broadcast... Follow through for my full recap of Thursday's (March 12) Top 12 performances and the first solo elimination of the season. 8:00 p.m. (in show time, but 8:24 in my time) Fortunately, I remember last night, so I can trim a minute off here. 8:01 p.m. I missed last night's Top 12 Party because of timing. I'm just missing everything. 8:02 p.m. I can't fast-forward through Ryan Seacrest, because he's going to explain the show. Also, I can't miss the Jennifer Lopez Fashion Show.

Recap: 'American Idol' Season 14 - Top 12 Revealed
Jennifer Lopez
There were definitely some surprises in last week's first Top 24 eliminations. One week, Trevor Douglas was my pick to win the whole thing. The next week? Poof. Gone. One week, it seemed like everybody hated Maddie Walker for taking Rachael Hallack's place in the Top 24. The next week? Bam! Embraced by America despite an utterly mediocre performance. On Wednesday (March 11) night, "American Idol" is unveiling our Top 12 Finalists. How will the lucky singers be revealed? And what will we do to fill the hour?  Click through and follow along! 8:00 p.m. Et. I feel pretty good about Qaasim Middleton's chances of making the Top 12, so his picture is accompanying my recap. I don't know if the judges are getting Wild Card picks or what, but by hook or by crook, I'm betting on Qaasim, at least for another week. 8:02 p.m. I don't have a clue what's happening tonight.

Recap: 'American Idol' Season 14 - Top 8 Boys Perform
Jennifer Lopez
Last week, the "American Idol" Top 24 performed over two chaotically edited nights.  This week, we're going to apparently be eliminating eight people, while also showcasing eight performances per night leading up to eliminations next week. And Aretha Franklin's going to be involved in some way. Click through and follow along! 7:59 p.m. Et. Per Ryan Seacrest's twitter, eight guys will get called to perform. If you don't get called, you're eliminated. This is, of course, utterly vicious to the last few performers, who will be stressed out balls of adrenaline. But who cares! 8:00 p.m. Oh Snap! It's Aretha! She's doing "I Will Survive." A couple years ago, we were really concerned about Aretha's health and it seemed like we might not have her for long, but she looks and sounds spectacular. What an absolutely terrific turn of events. I'm just plain happy. 8:03 p.m.

It might be a man's man's man's world, but this time on American Idol, it's the Top 12 ladies who get their shot to wow the votes out of viewers. The Top 12 guys already hit the stage in the Motor City with varying degrees of success and acclaim (would you believe I actually found a mainstream blogger who went with the headline "Daniel Seavey Wows" and thought Adam Ezegalian was "ears bleeding bad"?).

But for normal people with functioning ears, there is pretty much a consensus that Nick Fradiani won the round, followed in no particular order by Quentin Alexander, Qaasim Middleton and Ezegalian.

“Can anybody find me somebody to love?”

I posed one of Queen’s most plaintive lyrics for most of Wednesday’s American Idol “Group Rounds” telecast — and unfortunately, only a handful of contestants answered the call. There were forgotten lyrics, cacophonous harmonies, a few instances of face-down-on-the-carpet exhaustion and a smattering of “I didn’t come here to make friends” squawking. But “Holy crap, I want to know that contestant’s 877-number so I can start voting for him/her right this second!” vocals were in short supply.
