The prosecution is about to wrap up its case during the ongoing trial against P Diddy at the Manhattan Federal Court. During the court proceedings, many celebrities were mentioned by name. However, Cassie Ventura, Kid Cudi, and Dawn Richard were the only celebrities who testified in court. Nicole Blank Becker, who represented R. Kelly, explained why the prosecution did not bring more celebrities to the stand.
Diddy is facing five counts of serious charges, including one count of racketeering conspiracy, two counts of s*x trafficking, and two counts of transportation to engage in pr*stitution. If charged, the hip-hop mogul is looking at life in prison.

There was an odd symmetry to the near-simultaneous deaths of Sly Stone and Brian Wilson at age 82 last week. “Both of them poets of summer,” Rob Sheffield says in the new episode of Rolling Stone Music Now. “Both chroniclers of the American dream in California. Both from pretty much the same era. Both of them also started out very young as musical prodigies, who figured out early that they needed to be in charge of their music.”

Swedish pop star Zara Larsson’s next album, Midnight Sun, due Sept. 26, will include the confessional track “Ambition,” which she describes as her most honest song — complete with lyrics about comparing herself to other performers as she stares at her phone late at night. “That’s the thing with ambition,” she sings. “Everything’s a competition.”

To get her music back, first Taylor Swift had to re-record it. After a consortium led by Scooter Braun bought the rights to the masters for her first six albums in 2019, much to Swift’s displeasure, she hatched a simple, if wildly labor-intensive plan: Make new Taylor’s Versions of her catalog available, and then ask her massive fanbase to stream them instead of the originals.
No one had ever tried anything like it before, but fans complied by the millions. The strategy worked exactly as intended, devaluing the masters...

“The America I love, the America I’ve written about, that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration,” Bruce Springsteen declared from a Manchester, U.K. stage May 14. At the kick-off show of his newly rechristened Land of Hope and Dreams Tour with the E Street Band, Springsteen framed his criticism of Donald Trump in patriotism: “The America that I’ve sung to you about for 50 years is real, and regardless of its faults, is...

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ heavily pregnant ex-girlfriend for a decade, Cassie Ventura, stepped down from the her arduous week on the witness stand at a lower Manhattan federal courthouse on Friday afternoon, having recounting in often harrowing detail the alleged coercive control, manipulation, blackmail, drug use and unwanted sex with male prostitutes that she says he forced her into for his sexual pleasure. Yet despite the darkness — now very public knowledge — in their relationship, toward the end of her sensational, sad and, at times, salacious testimony, Ventura told Combs’ attorney when asked point blank that, despite the violence and many allegations she detailed this week, she does not have animosity toward Combs.
“I don’t hate him,” Ventura told attorney Anna Estevao. When asked on the stand if she still has love left for the beleaguered rap and fashion mogul, she replied, “I have love for the past, and what it was.

A former adult star named Jonathan Oddi, who got into trouble with the police in 2018, provided information regarding Diddy’s case, which also involved well-known rappers DJ Khaled and Rick Ross. Born Sean Combs, the disgraced rapper faces allegations of assault, s*x trafficking, and racketeering, and he is currently on trial.
Oddi claimed that he signed a non-disclosure agreement with Diddy and was used as a “s*x slave.” He also revealed that he engaged in intimate acts with Cassie Ventura at the rapper’s whim, which the singer confirmed.

This past year has been wild when it comes to the Diddy headlines, allegations, lawsuits, and one jaw-dropping reveal after another. Now, with his trial officially begun, things are heating up fast. And just when people think they have heard it all, boom, something even more shocking drops.

How does a truly terrible song end up an otherwise flawless album? Blame ego-appeasing band-politics concessions, drug-fueled studio experiments, songwriters working through a few too many personal demons, and artists who just ran out of songwriting steam a little too soon. In any case, Rolling Stone‘s Andy Greene recently found 50 examples of classic albums with at least one bad song, and he goes through his entire list with host Brian Hiatt on the new episode of Rolling Stone Music Now.

In a video posted to Instagram on Sunday, Snoop addressed the criticism while sitting in his car and taking a hit from a blunt. “For all the hate, I’m going to answer with love,” he said. “Get your life right, stop worrying about mine. I’m cool. I’m together. Still a Black man. Still 100% Black. All out ’til you ball out or ’til you fall out.”
Also over the weekend, Snoop spoke about dealing with negativity on the R&b Money Podcast: “You ‘gon deal with hate when you get to the top, no matter who you are… Me, personally, I answer it with success and love. That’s my answer to any hate and negativity that comes my way, ’cause it’s the strongest force that can beat it.

Rapper-turned-mogul Snoop Dogg is feeling the heat for performing at the Crypto Ball, an event in Washington D.C. preceding Donald Trump’s Jan. 20 inauguration.
When video surfaced of the rapper performing at the Friday night event, held at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium and hosted by former PayPal COO David Sacks, fans expressed anger and shock online. The Shade Room posted a video of Snoop — along with Rick Ross and Soulja Boy — on stage performing, and the comments section was filled with outrage over The Voice judge’s decision. “This is culturally embarrassing and disrespectful asf,” one reaction read. “Not a check in the world worth selling my soul to the Devil…” another commenter remarked.
Former CNN anchor Don Lemon covered the performance on his live stream, Lemon Live at 5, wondering aloud whether Snoop and other Black hip hop artists are “sellouts [or] grifters who only care about a dollar?...

The actor braved the rain to come out onstage Sunday during Scott’s set, according to videos posted online and multiple reports.

The Drake versus Kendrick Lamar feud refuses to turn over a new leaf as the drama gets dragged back into the spotlight once more after the Hotline Bling singer files a second lawsuit against Universal Music Group. The suit claims that Lamar’s Not Like Us was allegedly inflated and turned viral through the efforts of Umg and Spotify in an intentional attempt to defame Drake.

Prime Video's Cross includes a fantastic soundtrack that helps shape the setting, pacing, and story. Based on the best-selling books by James Patterson, Cross follows a forensic psychologist and detective named Alex Cross, who lost his wife and is raising two kids while solving mysteries. In season 1, he goes up against the Fanboy, a killer who idolizes serial killers and wants his victims to resemble them.
The Amazon Prime show has been well-received by audiences and critics alike, and fans can get excited because Cross season 2 was confirmed before the first season was ever released. The thriller succeeds because of Cross' A+ cast, the well-written story, and the songs that appear in each episode. Music plays an important role in the characterization of the Cross family, making the soundtrack integral to the narrative. Luckily, the creative team chose great songs that amplify every part of the show.

Some lessons need to be learned over and over again. When Bob Dylan and the Beatles broke through in the Sixties, they paved the way for generations of artists to write their own songs. But by the early 2000s, the charts had been largely reclaimed by pro songwriters and svengali producers — until a young, putatively country artist named Taylor Swift came along.
As Swift rapidly moved toward pop stardom, guitar always in hand, she started an industry-wide movement toward artists — especially young women — writing about their own lives again. “When...
