Where to Watch ‘Robot Chicken: Self-Discovery Special’
Image
“Robot Chicken” is officially returning for its newest special “Robot Chicken: Self-Discovery Special” to celebrate its 20th anniversary. And of course, we’ve got all the details about when it hits TV screens.

When Seth Green and Matthew Senreich launched “Robot Chicken” on Adult Swim in 2005, it became an instant hit that fans stayed up late to watch. Between jokes targeting pop culture and Hollywood giants like Mario and Luigi and filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan, “Robot Chicken” has stood the test of time as an adult animated classic.

“Robot Chicken” is executive produced by Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, along with co-head writers Douglas Goldstein and Tom Root. Green and Senreich also write, voice and direct the award-winning series. Stoopid Buddy Stoodios partners, John Harvatine IV and Eric Towner, also serve as executive producers.

Here’s everything you need to know about how, when and where to watch the new “Robot Chicken” special.

Seth Green Explains Why ‘Robot Chicken’ Is Switching to Quarterly Specials 20 Years In
Image
“Twenty years in, and they’re still surprising us. Join a more mature ‘Robot Chicken’ on a journey of introspection.”

That’s how Adult Swim and HBO Max are teasing their upcoming “Robot Chicken” Self-Discovery Special in honor of the animated adult stop-motion sketch comedy series’ 20th anniversary. To celebrate, co-creator and star Seth Green got introspective with TheWrap, discussing everything from the show’s celebrity guest stars to how the formation of Wbd impacted their output.

“The special came about because Discovery Media bought Warner Bros. and all its subsidiaries, which trickled all the way down to Adult Swim. So there was a shift — not just in the volume of global workforce that were employed, but also the priorities of any of these smaller subsidiaries at the behest of these much larger companies,” Green told TheWrap. “All that to say, no one was green-lighting a new season of 20 quarter-hours.

Why Is It Called Robot Chicken? The Adult Swim Show's Bizarre Title, Explained
Image
It's something of a miracle that "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" veteran Seth Green and Matthew Seinreich's animated TV series "Robot Chicken" is still going as of 2025. The show debuted in 2005, a time when a certain kind of aggressive "shock" humor was in vogue and a Gen-x-focused pop culture obsession was riding high in the American consciousness. That "Robot Chicken" remains popular proves a new generation has become savvy to its sense of humor (either that or 50-year-old men are relentlessly devoted). Of course, if "Family Guy" can play a similar hand for 23 seasons, why can't "Robot Chicken?" Also, why is it called "Robot Chicken?" It's a sketch comedy show,...

Adult Swim’s iconic stop-motion sketch comedy series Robot Chicken is marking its 20th anniversary with a new special set to air this summer.
