Holger-Madsen retired from the film business in 1937 and carried on a movie theater (Enghave Bio) in Copenhagen.

He already entered the film business in 1908 where he first worked as an actor in countless productions, among them several movies with the figure SherlockHolmes. In these movies Holger-Madsen impersonated the role of Dr. Watson at the side of Viggo Larsen who played Sherlock Holmes.

The 10s marked the height of the Danish film production and Denmark belonged to the stronghold of the international film industry. Holger-Madsen as well took part again in numerous movies in those years.

The actor and director Holger-Madsen belonged to the most important film workers of the Danish film industry and he worked many years for the leading production company Nordisk.

From 1905 he became a great personality of the Danish theater and he appeared in Copenhagen at the Casino-Teatret and at the Dagmar-Teatret.

Holger-Madsen, who already retired from the theater in 1914 because of his extensive film career, also gained a foothold in the German silent movie where he worked both as an actor and director.

He began his impressive career as a stage actor in 1896 and at the beginning his appearances were limited to small stages in Denmark.

With the rise of the sound film ended his career in Germany and he returned to Denmark.
