When he was brought in to the WWE in 1988, Vince McMahon initially had trouble coming up with an appropriate gimmick for him. Vince had asked him if there were any sports or activities that he was skilled in and Curt responded by saying that he was very good at every sport that he played. This gave Vince the idea for a wrestler named "Mr. Perfect" who believed that he was perfect in everything that he did.
