5 Adult Animated Series to Watch If You Like ‘King of the Hill’
Image
King of the Hill, created by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, is a slice-of-life adult animated series featuring the Hill family, their friends, and neighbors. Set in the fictional town of Arlen, the show finds humor in the quirks of everyday life, capturing blue-collar struggles, family conflicts, and the awkward trials of growing up.

Despite delivering some of the best episodes, King of the Hill was cancelled in 2008 (via Fox News). New episodes continued to air through 2009, with a few additional ones released in 2010. Fortunately, it was renewed for Season 14, which premiered on Hulu on August 4, 2025. If you binged through the show and are looking for more, here is a list of 5 similar animated shows to add to your next binge list.

1. The Simpsons

‘Family Guy’s’ Darkest Character Started As A Joke —Then Became Something Much More Controversial
Image
Family Guy’s Creepiest Character Was Never Meant to Be This Dark — So How Did Herbert Survive So Long? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Herbert entered Family Guy as a frail old man with a soft voice and a hard to miss obsession. His interest in Chris Griffin was not subtle and the show made no effort to wrap it in layers of innocence. He clearly wanted Peter’s deranged son and the show played this for laughs in ways that made some viewers squirm while others chuckled uncomfortably. This is where the difference lies where another old man in animation might be confused and harmless but Herbert was shaped to be the kind of person you cross the street to avoid.

How Family Guy Lets Herbert Get Away with Everything

There is something almost bold about how openly Herbert behaves. He does not sneak around but makes creepy remarks out loud in front of adults who,...

Are Family Guy And American Dad Set In The Same Universe?
Image
Four seasons after "Family Guy" started, Seth MacFarlane and the rest of the creative team behind the Griffins' hilarious world decided to launch another series with "American Dad." The show features a slightly more intelligent father figure, Stan Smith (but just barely), who, like "Family Guy" patriarch Peter Griffin, is voiced by MacFarlane himself. With so many overlapping creative aspects, such as the voice actors, edgy comedy, and distinctive animation style, it's understandable if you've ever wondered whether "American Dad" and "Family Guy" exist within the same universe. Well, it turns out they do a little.

Debuting in 2005, "American Dad" occasionally winked at the audience, making fragile connections to MacFarlane's other beloved animated series early on. Characters from "Family Guy" and "American Dad" would also cross over into one another's series via cameos, most notably in the "Family Guy" parodies of "Star Wars" and one of the show's best episodes,...

David Lynch Had A Hilarious Cameo In A Family Guy Christmas Episode
Image
In the wake of the recent passing of beloved director/part-time weatherman David Lynch, it's worth remembering that one of his best talents was his acting. He always nailed it in his live-action performances, be it as Gordon Cole in "Twin Peaks" or as John Ford in "The Fabelmans," but he brought his A-game to voice acting, too. Case in point: The 2016, season 15 episode of "Family Guy," "How the Griffins Stole Christmas." Lynch doesn't play a major role, but he does pop up in a cutaway that asks the question, "What if instead of Santa Clause coming down the chimney, it was David Lynch? The result is something that any "Twin Peaks" fan can surely appreciate:

What's nice about this cutaway is that the writers of it clearly seem to have actually watched Lynch's work and can make specific jokes about it. On social media, you'll often see people attempt...

David Lynch Was Always Up for a Good Joke
Image
The great David Lynch has passed away at the age of 78. And while the legendary artist and filmmaker will no doubt be remembered for his surreal, often nightmarish works, what arguably made him such a beloved cultural fixture was his sense of humor.

While one might expect the guy who made Eraserhead and Blue Velvet to be a brooding, self-serious loner, Lynch was anything but. He was a uniquely charming, offbeat character who wouldn’t shy away from the talk show circuit. He made regular appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and once decided that David Letterman’s Late Night was the ideal place to ask fans of Twin Peaks to write into the network to help save the struggling show.

Play

Almost all of Lynch’s films contain at least some comedic elements; like how Mulholland Drive includes a mini-comedy of errors about an incompetent hit man.

The Simpsons and Family Guy Get a Big Scheduling Shake-Up for 2025
Image
2025 is going to see massive scheduling changes to beloved animated sitcoms The Simpsons and Family Guy.

The new year has arrived, and so have some major changes to Fox’s Animation Domination programming block. Per Comicbook.com, Family Guy will take over The Simpsons’ time slot when the series’ 23rd season premieres this February. The swap was revealed in a Jerry O’Connell preview.

Related Family Guy Returns to Adult Swim After 3-Year Absence

Seth MacFarlane's Family Guy will return to Adult Swim's programming in 2025 after a three-year absence from the network.

While not officially confirmed, Family Guy will likely take the 8:00 Pm Est time slot starting Sunday at the beginning of February. This marks the official premiere of the 23rd season of the series, not including the two holiday specials "Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Cheater" and "Gift of the White Guy," airing in October and November 2024. Family Guy's Most Controversial Character Was Created By Accident
Image
If you want to compare how much darker "Family Guy" is to its animated predecessor "The Simpsons," all you have to do is look at each show's resident old character. Grandpa Abe on "The Simpsons" is considered funny because he's cranky, out of touch, easily confused, and prone to rambling. Herbert on "Family Guy" is considered funny because he's a pedophile. The joke is that Herbert really wants to molest children; not only has he molested before, but he plans on molesting 14-year-old Chris in particular.

Granted, there is an additional layer to the character's appeal, which is his audacity. He'll often say predatory things right in front of adults who should pick up on it and alert the authorities, but it all seems to breeze right past them. Much like how the adults don't seem to understand Stewie but will still react to his general mood and behavior, adults...

Why Patrick Warburton Refused To Participate In One Family Guy Episode
Image
Joe Swanson (Patrick Warburton) is one of the four main "best guy friends" on Seth MacFarlane's undying animated sitcom "Family Guy." Swanson, along with the idiotic Peter (MacFarlane), the laconic Cleveland, and the perverted Quagmire (also MacFarlane) regularly meet to have drinks at their favorite Rhode Island bar, the Drunken Clam, and swap stories of their bad decisions and work triumphs. Professionally, Swanson is the most capable, having been a police officer for many years. He has a handsome square jaw and massive shoulders, and he is happy with his wife Bonnie (Jennifer Tilly).

In a rare case of good representation, Swanson sits in a wheelchair, making him one of the few disabled regular characters in mainstream television. He's often seen as physically adept, able to grapple with perps more capably than his abled counterparts. "Family Guy," however, is known for its aggressively tasteless humor, and sometimes made jokes at Joe's expense.

Ron Ely, Star of the First Tarzan Series for Television, Dies at 86
Image
Ron Ely, the hunky and handsome Texas native who portrayed the Lord of the Jungle on the first Tarzan series for television, has died, his daughter Kirsten told Fox News Digital. He was 86.

He died Sept. 29 at the home of one of his daughters near Santa Barbara, The New York Times reported.

Ely also hosted the Miss America pageant in 1980 and 1981, stepping in for longtime emcee Bert Parks, and presided over a syndicated game show called Face the Music around that time.

The 6-foot-4, blue-eyed Ely had appeared opposite Clint Walker in The Night of the Grizzly and with Ursula Andress in Once Before I Die in films released in 1966 when he was hired to don the loincloth in a new NBC series executive produced by Sy Weintraub.

The Simpsons Star Talks No Longer Voicing Black Characters & Idea the Show 'Has Become Woke'
Image
Harry Shearer comments on The Simpsons "becoming woke," highlighting his replacement as Dr. Hibbert. Shearer discusses issue of new voice actor for Dr. Hibbert being a Black man imitating his white portrayal of the character. The Simpsons producers have made a decision to no longer have white actors voice non-white characters, following a statement made in 2020.

The Simpsons alum Harry Shearer has commented on the idea that the long (really long) running animated series has become woke after the voice actor was replaced as the voice of one of the shows most prominent Black characters, Dr. Hibbert. Speaking with The Times, Shearer addressed The Simpsons producers decision to no longer allow white actors to voice non-white characters, saying...

Folk say the show has become woke in recent years and one of my characters has been affected. I voiced the Black physician, Dr. Hibbert, who I based on Bill Cosby. Back...

Seth MacFarlane Shares ‘Family Guy’ Movie Plans, Reveals Hulu Will Air 2 Original Episodes
Seth Green, Mila Kunis, Alex Borstein, and Seth MacFarlane in I Griffin (1999)
“Family Guy” creator and executive producer Seth MacFarlane shared insight at PaleyFest on whether or not the Griffin family will ever make it to the big screen in a full-length feature film. The show’s cast also brought the house down Friday with a live table read of upcoming episode “The Edible Arrangement” and nine performances of musical classics from the series as the show celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Without giving too much of the goodness away, the episode the cast did a table read for — written by Travis Bowe — is titled “The Edible Arrangement.” It’s centered on Lois and Stewie bonding after consuming a few of Brian’s weed-infused gummies. The episode features the first time Lois has ever heard Stewie talk, which provides Stewie with the perfect opportunity to tell her all about his old plot to murder her.

Family Guy Season 22 Episode 7 Clip Sees Meg Train To Be Peter’s Surrogate [Exclusive]
Image
Family Guy continues to thrive, becoming one of the longest-running animated TV shows, alongside The Simpsons and South Park. The show's formula remains the same with pop culture references and cutaway gags, as seen in the clip from season 22, episode 7. The upcoming episode features Lois getting kidnapped, Stewie and Brian undergoing "friendship therapy," and Peter exploring a new passion.

Family Guy shenanigans continue as the animated series’ 22nd season progresses. Despite being canceled once early on in its run, Family Guy has gone on to become one of the longest-running animated TV shows of all time; it’s even further up that list when compared specifically to adult animation programs like The Simpsons and South Park. Through it all, Family Guy has benefitted from having a largely unchanged voice cast, with show creator Seth MacFarlane, Alex Borstein (Lois Griffin), Seth Green (Chris Griffin), and Mila Kunis (Meg Griffin) all returning...

Fox could be hoping that Family Guy's established audience will follow the show to its new timeslot, potentially boosting other newer shows in the process.

Family Guy is due for a big change when it returns, with Fox making scheduling shifts. The Griffins have been a staple of the network's animation block, fitting right alongside a heavyweight like The Simpsons. It's even crossed over with the animated staple, at times, along with Bob's Burgers, as it's been a consistent fixture in a specific spot that hasn't shifted for an impressively long time.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed a notable change as part of Fox's midseason schedule. Family Guy...

M*A*S*H Star Loretta Swit Pitched Margaret's Best Story Arc Herself
Image
Once you've seen all of "M*A*S*H," it can be tough to rewatch some earlier season episodes. The Korean War-set sitcom was heartfelt and inspired from its first season to its last, but the earlier seasons also prominently featured some kinks the show would later work out. The worst of them? The initially one-note writing of Nurse Margaret Houlihan (Loretta Swit), whose nickname Hot Lips is a good indicator of how the show felt about her early on.

In the show's early days, Margaret alternated between appearing to be a shrill stick in the mud and an amorous "other woman" for sniveling jerk Frank Burns (Larry Linville). When she was subjected to sexual harassment at the hands of our heroes, she was the butt of the joke for taking it too personally, and audiences never got much sense of her inner self. As the series began establishing its...

‘Family Guy’ Season 22, Episode 1: ‘Fertilized Megg’ Wastes A Meaningful Story With Offensive Humor
Image
Julius Wu, Dominic Bianchi and James Purdum‘s Family Guy season 22, episode 1: “Fertilized Megg” centers around one of the series’ main protagonists, Meg Griffin (voiced by Mila Kunis), agreeing to give birth to the surrogate child of the series’ LGBTQ couple, Bruce and Jeffrey (both voiced by Mike Henry).

After months of burdening her family with her needs, Meg eventually gives birth to Bruce and Jeffrey’s baby, whom they name Liza Judy Barbara. Upon worrying that they can’t handle the responsibility of raising a child, Bruce and Jeffrey allow Meg to take care of her for a few days, much to the dismay of her mother, Lois (voiced by Alex Borstein).

To this episode’s credit, the plot was executed well as it effectively showed the struggles of pregnancy while also ending with an insightful message of how a good parent can come from anywhere.

Family Guy's Star Wars Episode Is Called Blue Harvest For A Very Geeky Reason
Image
The adult animated comedy series "Family Guy" has been on our televisions since 1999 — the Seth MacFarlane-created show has 21 seasons under its belt at the time of this writing. The adventures of the Griffins, their talking baby and dog, and their neighbors are temporarily paused for the WGA and SAG/AFTRA strikes, but there is a lot to rewatch. The series stars the voices of MacFarlane, Alex Borstein, Seth Green, Mild Kunis, Mike Henry, Patrick Warburton, and Arif Zahir.

The show has lampooned pop culture many times in its quarter-of-a-century existence, but one of its crowning achievements is the "Star Wars" episode entitled "Blue Harvest." It was the premiere episode of season 6 and aired for the first time on September 23, 2007. The name of the episode might be familiar to some hardcore "Star Wars" fans, but for the rest of you, there is a very geeky reason for this title. Let's...

Every Actor Who Appeared In American Dad Before The Orville
Image
The Orville’s talented cast is filled with actors who have worked on another show from creator Seth MacFarlane, American Dad!. Seth MacFarlane’s Star Trek pastiche is a relatively new show, having seen only three seasons with a fourth Orville season on the way, but its creator is a TV veteran. MacFarlane has been working in TV for decades, with one of his most popular projects, American Dad!, airing continuously since 2005. In that time, MacFarlane has amassed a vast network of trusted collaborators, whom he repeatedly recruits for new projects. The Orville, with its densely populated spaceship and an endless supply of new worlds, is rich with parts for MacFarlane’s collaborators.

MacFarlane’s Orville follows the crew of a space exploration vessel, the titular USS Orville, 400 years in the future. The comedy show is a loving pastiche of the original series of Star Trek and its sequel series,...

Family Guy: Chris Fails To Find An Extracurricular Club In New Clip
Image
Screen Rant is excited to share an exclusive clip from the upcoming season finale of Family Guy. The animated sitcom is currently airing season 21 and has already been renewed for two more. Family Guy first premiered in 1999 and was briefly canceled in 2002 during its third season. However, it was revived for a fourth season in 2004, which began airing in 2005. Family Guy has been a consistent part of Fox's adult animation lineup for eighteen years.

Family Guy follows the dysfunctional Griffin family. The family includes Peter, the family patriarch, his wife Lois, teenage children Meg and Chris, hyper-intelligent and diabolically evil infant Stewie, and the Griffin family's anthropomorphic English-speaking dog Brian. The twenty-first season finale of Family Guy will debut on May 7.

Family Guy, The Simpsons, And Bob's Burgers Collide In New Scene From Crossover Episode
Image
Fox's Sunday night animation lineup is about to collide, if only for a moment. In a clip from this week's episode of "Family Guy," which was just released by Entertainment Weekly, Peter Griffin (Seth MacFarlane) ends up at Bob's Burgers restaurant, where he pulls up a stool alongside Homer Simpson. It's less a major crossover moment than a quick gag, but "Bob's Burgers" star H. John Benjamin does make a voiceover guest appearance as the chef we know and love from the ever-underrated wharf restaurant.

The scene, which you can watch now below or on the Animation Domination YouTube channel, starts with Peter Griffin instantly trying to find a way to extricate himself from the situation when his wife, Lois (Alex Borstein) starts describing a dream she had the night before. "Eh-heh," he says while backing away, first out of the house and then down the street before eventually backing...

Mike Henry: Mark Cerulli Remembers A Hero On Screen And Off
Image
Normal 0 false false false En-us X-none X-none

By Mark Cerulli

Mike Henry, the rugged former football player-turned-actor, passed away on January 8, 2021 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and Chronic traumatic encephalopathy, likely from his heavy physical contact during his years in the NFL playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers and LA Rams. Although not a household name, Henry carved out an impressive career playing heroic roles, most notably Tarzan in three films from 1966 – 68. I remember stumbling across Tarzan And the Valley of Gold on network TV as a kid and being enthralled by this hulking, well-spoken Tarzan who wore a suit in one scene and the traditional loincloth in the next. Henry took over the role of Tarzan from Jock Mahoney Blessed with a chiseled physique that Weintraub crowed looked like it was “sculpted by Michelangelo”, Henry could easily handle the athletic demands of the coveted part.

6 White Voice Actors Who Left Their Roles as Animated Characters of Color (Photos)
Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Dan Castellaneta, and Yeardley Smith in I Simpson (1989)
This year, several white voice actors from animated series have decided to forego their roles as characters of color in order for them to be recast, in some cases, to actors of color. Here are some examples of shows where this happened, from “Big Mouth” to “The Simpsons.”

Hank Azaria as Apu and Carl on “The Simpsons”

Azaria confirmed to reporters at Winter TCA earlier this year that he will no longer do the voice of Indian American convenience-store proprietor Apu Nahasapeemapetilon on “The Simpsons.” Film producer Adi Shankar previously said that the show plans to drop the character altogether. Azaria also did the voice of Carl, who was voiced by by Alex Désert in its last season premiere.

Jenny Slate as Missy on “Big Mouth”

The comedian said that “Black characters on an animated show should be played by Black people” when she gave up the role of Missy on the Netflix animated series.

Harry Shearer No Longer Voicing Black ‘Simpsons’ Character Dr. Hibbert, Kevin Michael Richardson to Take Over
Image
Kevin Michael Richardson will be taking over the voice role of Dr. Hibbert on “The Simpsons,” replacing Harry Shearer, who portrayed the Black character since 1990.

Shearer voiced Dr. Hibbert on Sunday’s episode of “The Simpsons,” titled “DiaryQueen,” for the final time. Next week’s episode “Wad Goals” will feature Kevin Michael Richardson in the role, a representative for 20th Television confirmed to Variety.

The recasting comes after “Simpsons” producers said in June 2020 that white actors will no longer play non-white characters. Prior to that, Hank Azaria voiced the Indian character Apu Nahasapeemapetilon for years, drawing backlash among fans and the South Asian community. Azaria stepped down from the role in January 2020, and he was also replaced by Black voice actor Alex Désert as Carl Carlson in a fall 2020 episode.

During the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020, several other animated shows recast characters of color who had previously been voiced by white actors.

‘The Simpsons’ Replaces Harry Shearer With Black Actor To Voice Dr. Hibbert
Image
Last June, The Simpsons announced that white actors would no longer be voicing Black characters on the show, and now Harry Shearer has been replaced by veteran voice actor Kevin Michael Richardson in the role of Dr. Julius Hibbert, Deadline has confirmed.

Shearer had been the voice of Dr. Hibbert since the character’s debut more than 30 years ago. Shearer will continue to voice his other characters Including Ned Flanders, Principal Skinner and Mr. Burns.

Fox confirmed to Deadline that last night’s “Diary Queen” episode featuring Shearer as the voice of Dr. Hibbert was his last, and Richardson will take over the character’s voice beginning Sunday, February 28.

The Simpsons‘ new policy followed Family Guy veteran Mike Henry announcement last year that he would no longer voice the black Cleveland Brown character on Fox’s long-running animated hit. Hank Azaria also said last January that he would step back...

‘The Simpsons': White Voice Actor Harry Shearer Won’t Voice Black Character Dr Hibbert Anymore
Harry Shearer at an event for Chicken Little - Amici per le penne (2005)
White voice actor Harry Shearer will no longer voice Black character Dr. Hibbert on “The Simpsons,” TheWrap has learned, and is being replaced with a Black voice actor.

“Last night’s episode ‘DiaryQueen’ featured Harry Shearer as the voice of Dr. Hibbert for the last time,” “Simpsons” studio 20th Television said in a statement to TheWrap on Monday. “Next Sunday’s episode ‘Wad Goals’ will have Kevin Michael Richardson voicing Dr. Hibbert — and from there on out he will voice the character.”

Shearer had voiced the character of Hibbert since the show’s second season in 1990. He declined through a Fox representative TheWrap’s request for comment on stepping back from the role.

The recasting of Hibbert comes after Fox said last June that “The Simpsons” will no longer have white actors voice non-white characters on the animated series.

“Moving forward, ‘The Simpsons’ will no longer have white actors voice nonwhite characters,...

How ‘Family Guy’ Newcomer Arif Zahir Landed His Big Break as the New Cleveland Brown
Image
Arif Zahir knows he’s living a bit of a Cinderella story: The aspiring young actor has gone from impersonating the “Family Guy” character Cleveland Brown on YouTube to starring as the character’s voice actor starting next season.

“It doesn’t seem real,” said Zahir, who officially landed the gig last month, as “Family Guy” was renewed for its 19th and 20th seasons. “My mama almost had a heart attack when I told her!”

When the “Family Guy” producers first emailed Zahir about auditioning to take over as the voice of Cleveland Brown, the young YouTube star thought it was a joke. Zahir said he was convinced that “Family Guy” would retire the character after Mike Henry, who originated the role, stepped down in June. (Henry joined several white performers on animated series who have agreed to no longer voice characters of color.)

“I thought they were going to...

‘Family Guy’ Hires Cleveland Brown Impersonator Arif Zahir to Play Cleveland for Real

As animated shows wise up to the fact that they probably shouldn’t have white people voicing characters of color, Family Guy has made a long-overdue recasting by hiring a replacement for Cleveland Brown, the show’s most prominent black character. Family Guy has lined up Mike Henry's replacement, three months after he announced he was stepping down as the voice of Cleveland Brown on the beloved animated series.

‘Family Guy’ Casts YouTube Star Arif Zahir as the New Voice of Cleveland Brown

Arif Zahir has gone from impersonating “Family Guy’s” Cleveland Brown on YouTube… to being cast as the new voice of the character on the actual show.
