Complete Unseen: New Doc on History of Newport Folk Festival Announced
Image
For anyone who saw A Complete Unknown and wondered how close it resembled the actual Newport Folk Festival where Bob Dylan amped up his music, a new documentary will help answer that question.

Among the many films just announced as part of the annual Venice Film Festival in September is Newport & the Great Folk Dream, which documents the legendary (and ongoing) festival in the pivotal folk-to-rock years between 1963 and 1966. The doc includes footage of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band — some of it from the same...

'The Only Thing I Wish About It...': Star Trek: Tng Stars Reveal Their Reactions to Galaxy Quest
Image
More than a quarter of a century after its release, Galaxy Questremains among the gold standards in space sci-fi parody films. Starring Tim Allen, Alan Rickman, and Sigourney Weaver, the movie that follows the cast of a 1970s space TV show who become heroes of the galaxy, is by some considered a bit of a love letter to the Star Trekfranchise.

During a panel at the Indiana Comic Convention, Collider’s Steve Weintraub asked some Star Trek: The Next Generation alums what they thought of 1999’s Galaxy Quest.

“It’s perfect. It perfectly captures the essence (of Star Trek) with love and humor and intelligence…it’s so well-crafted,” said Denise Crosby, who played Lieutenant Tasha Yar in the first season of Tng and the Season 3 episode, “Yesterday’s Enterprise.”

“Like they Read Our Mail”

Jonathan Frakes, who portrayed Commander Will Riker in Tng and later Captain Riker in Star Trek: Picard,...

The Family-Friendly Horrors of ‘Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events’
Image
When it comes to revisiting the gateway horror media that haunted our youth, we often find ourselves baffled by the silly and often laughable things that used to scare us. However, sometimes the opposite is true. Sometimes we look back on a piece of media that we enjoyed as children only to realize that it was much darker than our naïve brains could fully comprehend at the time.

A great example of this is Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, a series of Young Adult novels defined by their generally gothic tone and frequent use of gallows humor. While these books were a tremendous hit among the Scholastic crowd (and often served as a dreary substitute for kids who weren’t into Harry Potter), they also contained numerous gruesome deaths and genuinely disturbing plot points that still distress readers to this day. And with the 2000s seeing a...

Me Am “Bizarro”
DC Comics ass-backwards anti-hero 'Bizarro' waits patiently on the sidelines for his full-length live-action moment in the spotlight:

'Bizarro' was created by writer Otto Binder and illustrator George Papp as a 'mirror image' of Superman debuting in "Superboy" #68 (1958).

Since then, Bizarro has appeared as an antagonist to Superman.

His origins started with a scientist demonstrating a newly invented 'duplicating ray' to Superboy...

...but an accident causes the ray to duplicate the teen hero, as a flawed imitation with chalky white skin and childlike erratic behavior.

Bizarro is depicted as having all the abilities of Superman...

...although in some incarnations several of these traits have been reversed.

These powers include 'freeze vision' instead of 'heat vision', 'flame breath' instead of 'freeze breath', 'vacuum breath' instead of 'super breath', etc.

A stand-alone "Bizarro" feature film is being developed by writers Dean Parisot and Robert Gordon.

Galaxy Quest Series Now in Development for Paramount+
Image
Sam Rockwell is interested in reprising his role in a possible Galaxy Quest sequel or limited series. A television series based on Galaxy Quest has been attempted before, with Amazon Studios showing interest. The death of Alan Rickman in 2016 impacted discussions for a straight-up sequel to the original movie.

The possibility of a Galaxy Quest sequel is something that has been floating in space for some time now. Last year it was revealed that a new iteration of the sci-fi comedy was in development as a series for Paramount+. In a recent interview with GQ, Sam Rockwell, who appeared as part of the ensemble cast of the film, said he would "be on it" if the sequel came to fruition. He said:

It was a really lucky thing, that film. If there was a sequel to Galaxy Quest, we would be on it. We talked about it, maybe like a limited series.

Galaxy Quest TV Series In Development Again
Image
Thus far in its development, the fate of the Galaxy Quest TV series has been less "never give up, never surrender!" and more "eh… Give up. Surrender". A version long in the works at Paramount TV and Amazon never left space dock, but now Paramount is trying again, setting a new version up at Paramount+.

According to Variety, there are no creatives attached yet – Mark Johnson, who was an executive producer on the 1999 movie, which starred Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell and Daryl Mitchell as a ragtag group of actors from a star Trek-alike canceled TV show who are recruited by aliens who think they're real heroes to fight a dangerous threat.

While things seemed to be moving along with writer Robert Gordon (who was one of the scribes on the movie), problems began over casting the original stars, and that was compounded by...

Never Give Up, Never Surrender: Galaxy Quest TV Show In The Works (Again)
Image
It's a big day for "Star Trek" news. First, Paramount+ announced the long-developing "Star Trek: Discovery" spinoff series "Section 31" has been reworked as a streaming movie. Now we have word the streaming platform is also planning to send the crew of the Nsea Protector on a new mission in the form of a "Galaxy Quest" TV series.

Okay, fine, Dean Parisot's semi-cult 1999 sci-fi action-comedy isn't technically a "Star Trek" film, but it is an unabashed and loving send-up of Gene Roddenberry's creation (one that "Star Trek" fans adore for its playful skewering of the franchise). The movie centers on the cast of the titular fictional TV show, a "Star Trek"-styled 1980s space adventure series that's mistaken for being a collection of "historical documents" by a naive extra-terrestrial race known as the Thermians. Facing extinction at the hands of the sadistic other-worldly warlord Sarris, the Thermians turn to...

‘Galaxy Quest’ TV Series Being Developed at Paramount+
Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, and Tim Allen in Galaxy Quest (1999)
“Galaxy Quest” is coming to television. According to Variety, Paramount+ and Paramount Television Studios are in the early stages of adapting the cult classic film.

A source close to the discussions told TheWrap that the project is in very early stages of development with Mark Johnson, who produced the original film, currently attached as an executive producer on the series.

Paramount Television Studios declined to comment.

Galaxy Quest TV series in development at Paramount+
Image
There has been interest in making a small screen follow-up to the 1999 sci-fi comedy Galaxy Quest (watch it Here) for several years. Back in 2015, Paramount TV Studios got a Galaxy Quest TV series set up at Amazon, with the film’s writer Robert Gordon working on the script and director Dean Parisot and producer Mark Johnson also attached. Much of the film’s cast – which included Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell, and Enrico Colantoni – was expected to return… but unfortunately, the project was derailed when Rickman passed away in 2016, and not even a new script from Paul Scheer (The League) was able to get it back on track. Now Paramount TV Studios is giving Galaxy Quest another try, and The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the TV series is set up at the Paramount+ streaming service.

‘Galaxy Quest’ TV Series in Early Development at Paramount+
Image
A “Galaxy Quest” series is in early development, this time at Paramount+.

Variety has learned that Paramount+ and Paramount Television Studios are in the nascent stages of adapting the cult classic comedy film into a television show. At this time, the only member of the creative team officially attached is Mark Johnson, who produced the original film and would serve as an executive producer on the potential series.

Paramount Television Studios and Paramount+ declined to comment.

This is the latest attempt to adapt “Galaxy Quest” for the small screen. It was previously reported in 2015 that Amazon was developing a series version that would have reunited the film’s cast, but those plans ended upon the death of Alan Rickman. There have since been various writers attached to the project, though none of their versions have ultimately gone forward.

“Galaxy Quest” was originally released in 1999. The film parodied franchises like “Star Trek...

‘Galaxy Quest’ TV Series in the Works at Paramount+

Galaxy Quest is going from a fictional series to an actual TV series.

Paramount+ is teaming with its studio counterpart, Paramount Television Studios, for a live-action adaptation of the 1999 cult favorite sci-fi spoof. Sources say the project is in the early development stages and a search is underway for a writer to pair with Mark Johnson, the Breaking Bad alum who exec produced the film and is returning for the scripted update. Johnson and his Gran Via Productions banner are the only execs currently attached to the project.

Reps for Paramount+ and the Nicole Clemens-led Paramount Television Studios declined to comment.

‘Galaxy Quest’ TV Series In Works At Paramount+
Image
Paramount Television Studios is taking a new stab at a Galaxy Quest TV series based on DreamWorks’ cult 1999 sci-fi comedy movie. The project, which is in early stages of development, is set up at Paramount+. It is executive produced by the film’s producer Mark Johnson via his Gran Via Productions. There is no concept or a writer yet. Reps for Paramount+ and Paramount TV Studios declined comment.

Getting a Galaxy Quest TV series off the ground has been a goal for Paramount TV Studios over the past eight years. The original idea was to do a continuation of the movie with the same cast, and Johnson was initially joined by the feature’s writer, Robert Gordon and director, Dean Parisot. Galaxy Quest's Director And Writer Knew Their Mission Was A Difficult One
Image
What's the best "Star Trek" movie? Is it "The Wrath of Khan"? "The Voyage Home"? "First Contact"? Many a Trekkie have said, half or fully seriously, that the answer is the loving parody film, "Galaxy Quest." "High concept" doesn't even begin to cover the film: aliens (the Thermians) who believe that a short-lived sci-fi series was a documentary recruit the cast to help them battle a galactic tyrant.

The sci-fi show in question is a "Trek" parody, a program that was cut short but kept alive decades later by an obsessive fandom. Jason Nesmith (Tim Allen) is William Shatner, the egomaniac who soaks up public adoration so much he doesn't notice how his co-stars loathe him. Alexander Dane (Alan Rickman) isn't a one-to-one for Leonard Nimoy, but his resentment of playing the alien "Dr. Lazarus" is in line with Nimoy's autobiography, "I Am Not Spock". Sigourney Weaver, a silver screen...

Galaxy Quest TV Show Finally Moving Ahead
The long-touted Galaxy Quest TV series from Amazon looks to be finally going places. The small screen sequel to the cult favourite 1999 sci-fi comedy movie of the same name has been talked about for a while, but due to various hiccups, it’s never progressed very far. Until now, that is.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed today that Paul Scheer has been appointed as the series’ showrunner, while the movie’s writer, Robert Gordon, is on hand to exec produce. From what we understand, the project will provide a new, fresh take on the cult film, though it’s unclear whether any of the original stars will be returning.

For those unfamiliar, Galaxy Quest was a loving, very meta pastiche of Star Trek and sci-fi fandom as a whole. It featured an amazing cast, including Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub and Sam Rockwell, as a bunch of...

Amazon is Moving Forward With Their Galaxy Quest Series and They've Hired a New Writer
Amazon Studios is once again moving forward with their Galaxy Quest TV series! This is great news because I've been really looking forward to seeing it since it was announced a couple years ago.

The streaming service has hired writer-actor-comedian Paul Scheer (The League) to write the script for the series, which is freakin' great! Scheer is a funny guy and I love his work on The League. Unfortunately, he will be replacing Robert Gordon, who was the writer of the original film.

The Amazon series is described as "a new take on the cult movie that starred Tim Allen, the late Alan Rickman as well as Sigourney Weaver." There's no word on if any of the original stars will return. Some of the other cast members included Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell and Enrico Colantoni.

Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool (2016)
Review: 'Deadpool' is the world's most violent and vulgar Bugs Bunny cartoon
Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool (2016)
To be honest, I can't believe this movie even exists. It's not like Deadpool is some impossible to decipher art film, or like the plot is impossible to follow. It's more a case of "Fox has never been this loose or this adventurous with any of their franchise superhero properties, and I'm not sure how anyone convinced them to do this," and if for no other reason, I salute the studio for taking this particular chance. And while superhero films are enormously popular and the X-Men franchise in general has been a steady performer for the studio, make no mistake: Deadpool represents a genuine roll of the dice. Aside from the R-rating, a first for this franchise, it's also just plain weird. Structurally, I can't think of another film quite like it. It's two scenes as well as some flashbacks and connective tissue. That's it. In one scene, Deadpool attacks...

Galaxy Quest: Amazon Prime pick up TV series
The TV series based on 1999 film Galaxy Quest has found a backer and a place to air – Amazon Prime has announced its support…

It’s been months since we first heard anything about the upcoming TV version of Galaxy Quest.

Back in April we were told that a TV spin-off was in the works, but then we got nothing but silence for months. Now, though, nearly half a year later, we finally have some more information to share.

The Galaxy Quest TV series has found a home at Amazon Prime, marking the latest attempt by the young streaming service to recruit a few more subscribers by supporting a familiar name. Perhaps we should assume, then, that saving Ripper Street scored Amazon some good sign-up numbers as well as that outpouring of online good will.

Amazon Studios are working with Paramount Television on the televisual Galaxy Quest, and they’ve recruited creative talent from the 1999 film,...

Amazon Developing ‘Galaxy Quest’ Series With Paramount Television
Amazon Studios is adding some more aliens and quirky adventures to its library of original content. The digital production house has signed a development deal for a new series from Paramount Television based on Galaxy Quest, the 1999 cult sci-fi film from DreamWorks.

The Galaxy Quest film told the story of cast members from a cancelled Star Trek-like science fiction TV show, who are mistaken for real heroes and whisked away to space by simple-minded aliens to save them from a threatening race. The movie starred Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shaloub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell, Enrico Colantoni, and Justin Long.

So far, Entertainment Weekly, who originally broke the news of the Galaxy Quest series deal with Amazon, reports none of the original Galaxy Quest acting talent is on board with the project. Overall, the show is still in early stages, but has already signed on original Galaxy Quest...

'Galaxy Quest' TV Show Is Coming to Amazon
Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, and Tim Allen in Galaxy Quest (1999)
Back in April, a report surfaced that original Galaxy Quest co-writer Robert Gordon is developing a new TV series based on the cult classic sci-fi comedy, which debuted in 1999. That report revealed that Paramount was shopping the project around to networks and streaming services, and now it seems the Galaxy Quest adaptation has found a home. Entertainment Weekly reports that Amazon Studios has signed on to develop the series.

The original Galaxy Quest movie centered on the cast of a cancelled sci-fi TV series, who get recruited to go on a real-life outer space mission to save a nation of aliens, who believed their characters were actually real. The ensemble cast for the sci-fi movie includes Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell, Enrico Colantoni, Missi Pyle and Justin Long, who made his feature debut on the movie. The movie earned just $90 million at the...

Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, and Tim Allen in Galaxy Quest (1999)
There's going to be a Galaxy Quest TV series on Amazon
Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, and Tim Allen in Galaxy Quest (1999)
Galaxy Quest has built up a cult following over the years, and it will now continue in a TV series.

Amazon Studios has picked up a small-screen version of the 1999 sci-fi comedy, according to Entertainment Weekly.

If you haven't seen it, Galaxy Quest centred around the cast of a Star Trek-style TV series who suddenly find themselves having to pilot a real-life spaceship for a group of aliens who mistook their series for a genuine documentary.

It has yet to be confirmed whether any of the original cast will return or whether it might be a reboot. It's probably going to be difficult to bring back some of the big name cast, including Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman and Sam Rockwell.

However, the film's co-writer Robert Gordon is back to write the script and to executive produce the pilot. Director Dean Parisot is also back, alongside producers Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein.

'Galaxy Quest' TV Series Coming to Amazon
It came out more than 15 years ago, but producers are hoping fans still want more from "Galaxy Quest," the quirky 1999 sci-fi comedy.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Amazon has just acquired a television series based on the flick -- which itself focused on the cast of a fictional sci-fi show, who are then abducted by real aliens -- and is in the early stages of adapting the movie. Much of the creative team behind the film is involved with the project, including co-writer Robert Gordon (he's penning the screenplay and executive producing the pilot), director Dean Parisot (directing and executive producing), and producers Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein (also producing again).

The flick starred Sigourney Weaver, Tim Allen, Alan Rickman, Sam Rockwell, Justin Long, and Tony Shaloub, among other well-known stars, and it's not clear yet if they'll be reprising their roles (it would seem that many of them may be...

Galaxy Quest Is Returning, This Time on TV

By Grabthar's hammer! Galaxy Quest is coming back!

The 1999 sci-fi cult comedy is coming to television, Deadline reports.

Galaxy Quest is the tale of the cast of a Star Trek-style TV show who become the reluctant stars of a real-life space adventure when they're abducted by aliens who believe the show was real and want their assistance.

Paramount is bringing back key players from the film for the series. Writer Robert Gordon, director Dean Parisot and producer Mark Johnson (who also worked on Breaking Bad) are all attached, as is Johnson's production partner Melissa Bernstein.

Galaxy Quest TV spin-off in the works
Reports are circulating that a Galaxy Quest spin-off is being put together at Paramount, with the makers involved...

"By Grabthar's hammer, by the Suns of Worvan, you shall be avenged!"

1999's Galaxy Quest was a genuinely funny and fond spoof of classic sci-fi TV, with great leading turns from Sigourney Weaver, Tim Allen and, of course, Alan Rickman as the embittered Alexander Dane, a thespian who's grown to resent his fame as the alien, Dr Lazarus.

While our wish for a movie sequel never came true, news has broken that Paramount is looking to make a TV spin-off. Variety is reporting that Galaxy Quest co-writer Robert Gordon is in negotiations to make the show, with the involvement of original director Dean Parisot.

Galaxy Quest is, of course, one of a whole wave of film properties being dusted down for a TV spin-off. It has to be said, however, that Galaxy Quest...

Reel TV: 'Galaxy Quest' To Get a TV Show Instead of a Sequel
According to Galaxy Quest star Tim Allen, there is indeed a script written for a sequel, but as of today the only way to get more time with the crew of the Nsea Protector is to either rewatch the fantastic original film on a loop or to read the comic book series Galaxy Quest: The Journey Continues. But, in a great twist of fate, the movie about the cast of a sci-fi TV show who end up getting abducted by aliens is now gearing up to become an actual TV show. According to Variety, Paramount Television has begun the process of putting together the show, which would reunite the original's core creative team of Robert Gordon (screenwriter), Dean Parisot (director), and Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein (executive producers). And if there's a show in the works, it's safe to...

'Galaxy Quest' Is Heading To TV
All of you liked Galaxy Quest, right? Of course you did. Who wouldn't like a film that managed to sendup and pay homage to our favorite sci-if series Star Trek?

At any rate, if you enjoyed the flick, then you may like the news I have for you today.

Hollywood trade brings word that Paramount has decided to move forward with a television series based on the film.

Quest's original writer, Robert Gordon, will pen the script as well as executive produce the new show with Dean Parisot, who directed the original film, and Mark Johnson, who produced it.

Galaxy Quest starred Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell and Enrico Colantoni. As much fun as it would be to see the band get back together, I imagine there will be an entirely new cast.

What do you think of this?...

Sci-Fi Cult Classic Galaxy Quest Getting TV Adaptation
When Galaxy Quest was released in 1999, the movie didn't do very well at the box office. Audiences hadn't yet embraced the "meta" style of humor that we're familiar with now, and though the film was smart, funny, and very well acted, it just didn't find an audience theatrically. That changed when it made its way to DVD, and the movie has since gained cult classic status, going as far as to be ranked one of the best Star Trek films of all time at last year's Star Trek convention even though it isn't actually a real Trek movie.

But I suppose the people at Paramount have seen the movie gain favor with fans over the years, because now Deadline is reporting that the studio is putting a Galaxy Quest TV series into development. If you haven't seen the movie, do yourself a favor and go watch it immediately. It's great,...

A television adaptation of Galaxy Quest is reportedly in the works.

The cult classic science fiction comedy's co-writer Robert Gordon and Dean Parisot are currently working with Paramount on a television spinoff, according to Variety.

Galaxy Quest starred Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman as feuding actors on a popular science fiction show reunited by actual aliens.

The aliens turn to these Hollywood stars for their help in an intergalactic crisis, believing that their television show was real.

Paramount has declined to comment on reports of a Galaxy Quest television adaptation.

Galaxy Quest's stature has grown among sci-fi fans since its release in 1999, with talk of a sequel even emerging a decade ago.
