Updated: A bill to rescind $1.1 billion in funding from PBS, NPR and public media stations is scheduled to come to the floor for a vote this afternoon.

There are expectations that the legislation will pass, after it cleared a procedural vote on Wednesday, 213-207. The clawback of public broadcasting funds is part of a White House initiated “rescissions” package that also includes billions of dollars in cuts to foreign aid programs, including medical care and AIDS prevention.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-ny) told reporters that “in all likelihood, every single House Republican, despite the claims that there is some anxiety, will cave to Donald Trump and vote for the reckless Republican rescissions package.” Jeffries focused on the impact the rescissions package would have on the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, started by President George W. Bush.

A bill that would claw back $1.1 billion in federal funding for public broadcasting cleared the House Rules Committee, setting it up for a floor vote later this week.

The Trump administration sent a rescissions package to Congress last week that rescinded funding to foreign aid programs, along with public broadcasting. If the bill passes, it will zero out $535 million in fudning to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting over the next two fiscal years, even though it was already allocated. The Cpb is the non profit corporation set up by Congress to distribute federal funding to public media stations, PBS, NPR and other entities.

It’s still unlcera whether Republicans have the votes for the rescissions package to pass. Some moderate GOP lawmakers have expressed opposition to the funding rollback, including Rep. Mark Amodei (R-Nv), who joined a statement with Rep. Dan Goldman (D-ny) opposing the cuts. Amodei and Goldman chair the Public Broadcasting Caucus.

On Wednesday, Hunter Biden appeared on Capitol Hill for deposition in the GOP’s impeachment inquiry into his father, President Joe Biden, and to deny the claim that the president had any involvement in his business dealings.

House Oversight and Judiciary Committees members interviewed Hunter during a closed-door session on Capitol Hill.

The former president is accused of perpetrating an illegal scheme to circumvent the democratic process and stay in power despite losing the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden, leading to, as Special Counsel Jack Smith described it, “an unprecedented assault on the seat of American democracy.”

Police departments in major cities have issued alerts regarding a potential national “Day of Hate” against Jewish people and institutions. Neo-Nazi and white nationalist groups on social media are reportedly calling upon followers to engage in vandalism and spread antisemitic propaganda on Saturday.
