He was perhaps best known for playing the mobster Tony Darvo in the 1988 film Midnight Run and the mobster Peter Amadesso in the 1993 film Carlito's Way.

Richard Foronjy was a character actor who grew up in the gangster world and went to prison before becoming an actor in movies including "Midnight Run," "Prince of the City" and "Carlito's Way".

He appeared in the film Serpico (1973) and some episodes of the series Serpico (1976).

Beyond the screen, Foronjy penned a memoir on October 8, 2020 "From the Mob to the Movies: How I Escaped the Mafia and Landed in Hollywood" under the name Richie Salerno. The book, published in 2020, followed his life from being in the mob in New York to his career in Hollywood.

In retirement, Foronjy lived in the Hudson Valley of New York.
